This was originally an area where elk grew up, so it was named ELK Grove. However, as the natural ecology was destroyed, the elk population grew and the number of elk gradually decreased. Therefore, the government designated a large area as a wild elk area and no feeding was allowed. But because the area is so large, you may not be able to see elk. Fortunately, I saw two females and two males the first time I went here. The male's head looks like Santa Claus riding an elk, although they don't stand up but sit there to rest. But I'm still very excited.

There is elk in this park and we saw one! The trails were nicely paved and the park itself was beautiful. We didn’t quite get to see it all but we were rewarded with an elk sighting. Do not feed the elk? The bathrooms here were not super clean so make sure you don’t need to go to the bathroom during your time here.

I drove past and did a double take because I thought I was losing my mind seeing elk in Chicago! What a cool herd establishment!

This is a nice park to get out and exercise as well as go observe elk inside an enclosure. I’m unsure of the complete length of the walking/bike path but it definitely is in excess of five miles. Much of the path is shaded due to the trees which helps during hotter days and there are few bridges that you can cross as well as a longer bridge that is actually a pedestrian overpass. It’s worth an afternoon outing.

And the ticks are alive! Took my dog for a walk over by the Elks. I had to go a little bit into the woods a couple of times to sit (I have copd) and take a small break as there are no benches next to the fence by the elks. Didn't even think about bug spray. Hence, I found 2 ticks on myself! It is tick season (warm/hot) so go prepared!

Nice place to walk. You can see the elk from behind the safety of a fence so it is very family friendly.

Bike path around bussie allows you to circle the Elk area. I hit it again today and there were several in view.

If you get lucky you might see an elk or two. It’s a nice area for biking and running but if you have a little one you will need to be careful with them as there are a lot of cyclists.

Best time to see Elks are either early morning or in the evening. I went there in the afternoon and couldn’t see any of them, then I went again in the evening and could see 4 of them. I wish they have many.

7.5 ish mile loop on the red trail. Paved trails good for walking, running, and biking. Careful, it has a tendency to be crowded on the weekends!

Always such a great time at the Busse Forest Elk Pasture! Well actually, that's not true - the only time it isn't great is when we don't get to see any elk! Busse Woods in general is such a HUMONGOUS forest preserve and nature ground spanning from Schaumburg to Elk Grove. It's perfect for walking, running, biking, and picnicking if you want a little nature escape from the suburbs. I love going to the Busse Forest Elk Pasture solely for seeing all the elk. And don't worry, the elk are extremely taken care of; they have tags on both their ears so they can always be located and monitored, they're fed a special, healthy diet, there's always a huge tank of water available for them, and they have plenty of open space to roam around. You are not allowed to feed the elk because they are already fed a special diet. However, you can feed them the grass/plants that's readily available right there by the fences (they're allowed to eat that, and believe me, they eat it nonstop!) Of course there's always pesky flies and mosquitos on the walkways of the Busse Forest Elk Pasture, but that's just nature for ya. I do wish they made the walkways bigger since Busse Woods gets packed in the summertime with constant bikers, strollers, runners, etc., hindering a smooth stroll/ride. Parking is okay here, but kind of scarce on nice summer days since everyone wants to spend their day outside here. Overall, if you live in the area and haven't been to Busse Forest Elk Pasture yet, what are ya doin'?! Come here for a walk or just to see the elk - it's a cool time!
