I had a terrible experience with the Aquatics Department, specifically with the person in charge of swimming classes for children, SHELBY EARLS. She was unprofessional, unapproachable, and rude. The YMCA pool was frequently broken, and SHELBY failed to communicate this to me and other families. As a result, we often showed up for no reason, wasting both our time and gas. This happened multiple times. Most recently, my daughter missed two classes due to chemical issues in the pool. Shelby didn't offer to credit us for the missed classes and instead told me to sign up for a new session. After contacting her supervisor, I was told I would receive a refund within 72 hours. SHELBY made this entire experience very difficult and unpleasant. I will never sign up for these swimming classes again. Worst experience ever. I feel sorry for people that have to deal with her on a daily basis. DONT SIGN UP FOR THE SWIMMING CLASSES! WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!

One time when I went there in 2021 for the carnival. The staff were like so rude and they never know how to act like a actual staff

Some workers there are unprofessional. I went to ask about a person and they told me she didn't worked there when she's a counselor LOL and they were talking bad about her the girl at the front this YMCA needs to hire better people.

Nice Silver Sneakers classes (for my wife). Nice weight room (for me). Has a pool but I don't use it. Overall a great affordable place to work out.

I've been a member for a few years. I love the convenience of location. I signed up to primarily use the pool and go to aqua classes. I love the aqua instructor. She is accommodating to the swimmer's needs. She definitely makes it fun. The facility is run down and has not been maintained. The women's locker room is dingy. The handicap accessible toilet has been broken for at least 9 months. There's a chair over it, so no one uses it. I don't know how that is ADA compliant. The showers on one side are not functional. The pool was closed for 9 months after the lighting fire. You'd think some of the other things could have been addressed while the pool was closed. Now there's a shortage of life guards. I kept paying my membership while the pool was closed, hoping it would open and have classes again. Several classes have been cancelled and hours are shortened. I understand staffing issues, but communication has not been great about facility hours. I hope things improve soon.

Do not go here unless you want to get jumped by teenage boys. Couldn't safely work out because teenagers were filming me. When my wife asked them to stop, they swarmed her and tried to jump her.

Today was the last day for 7 weeks of swim lessons for my 5&7 year old. On the last day they are supposed to get swim report cards on how they are doing, to let them know if they will be moving up or staying in same class. When my 5 year olds class was handing them out the swim instructor said I don’t have one for her only for everyone else in the class. The swim instructor became their teacher the last two classes and said she would not do one on my daughter and former instructor didn’t leave any notes, however all the other girls in the class parents got a report card for their child. Then my 7 year old class ends I go up to instructor and ask for her swim report card and he says. “I didn’t give you one? Oh wait I guess I filled one out for everyone but your daughter. I am teaching a class right now so you will have to wait for me to finish to fill that out.” I’m sorry I am not sitting around another half hour to wait for something you should have already had done. I am so done with this place. They are so unorganized, the swim instructors quit constantly so you never know who will be teaching your child. I immediately contacted Centre of Elgin to get my daughters signed up to continue swim lessons there starting in October. Never giving this place a dime again!

Best Summer Camp Ever! My oldest son grew up in the program and is now a counselor. My younger son is a few years in and loves it. Its a great price, they keep the kids BUSY, and they usually go on field trip once a week.

Should've let this place close down. It may seem fine but inside the equipment is out of date, their roof is falling apart and leaking constantly, there never seems to be anyone in management who can take a suggestion or even the smallest amount of feedback. Everything changed when management changed and now its all about the money. "Young Men's Christian Association"... yeah right. No morals and no values. It's all about the money. Nobody seems to know what they're doing and I don't blame the staff but the horrible training from their management team. There's no unity and there's nothing redeemable about this place. Go to the center of elgin instead
