Their system is very good. You have to make appointment to see a dog. That's so good so they all don't get so stressed out. Like they do at other places.

We recently adopted our puppy Maisy (formerly Bug) from WSHS and had a great experience. They have provided us with the sweetest new addition to our family, and have provided lots of support for her spay, vaccines and other medical concerns as well as provided guidance on introducing her to our cat, training her and caring for her. Very happy with our pup and our experience!

The place does not wish to adopt animals out. They would perfer to keep the cages full instead of providing forever homes. Which is just weird.
Edit: They feel it is perfectly alright to use the information you provide them as the basis for a counterpoint argument. This place does not value privacy in the slightest.
Please anyone seeing this do yourselves a favor and go to a shelter that actually cares about saving the animals. Don't use a shelter that is seeking to play king with the animals.

Please do not come here unless you want to be discriminated by the staff members. You don’t believe me? Check the names of the people who only get accepted to adopt. This please racial profile if you want to adopt. I was in the waiting room and I witness how people of certain color is allowed to come in and look at the cats without an application or an appointment, while I was told I can’t not come in unless I have an application on file and had to wait almost 3 weeks to be told I couldn’t adopt without a valid reason. Because not only they racial profile you they also discriminate kids with special needs. Alyssa the girl who helped me the day of my
“ meet and greet” was too annoyed by my 7 year old autistic son and even though I told them we need it a pet for him they didn’t care. Thanks a lot for braking my son’s heart after letting greet a cat and then decided not to let us adopt him. This place is horrible they rather have the animals caged than giving it to someone who will love and care for them. Shame on you Carolyn who’s the director of this please for not giving a valid reason other than the staff and her felt like we don’t deserve it. Tell me if this is a valid reason.
And you’re lying your board president never reached out to me. You put this comment below to make fun of me because I did reached out to him but the email you put is the same for everyone on this shelter. But don’t worry I’m going to keep raising my voice.

I went home with a lovely kitty. Staff was responsive and helped us match the right kitty. Able to get an appointment quickly.

I was extremely disappointed with the adoption process at this establishment. I was denied due to confusion on the application that happened to be confusion on their part which they ultimately decided to not continue with my application nor my friends after miscommunication on their part. It is very apparent this place only allows a certain demographic of people to adopt from here and clearly discriminates against people of color and I am unfortunately not the only individual who has experienced this at this location. I would recommended you choose a different place to find your new best friend.

I would recommend staying far away from this place. They have zero interest in finding homes for their animals. They’re just here for the donations so they can continue to hoard these poor creatures

We went to the petals for pets plant sale fundraiser. Beautiful facility. I would be adopting, if I didn't already have a rescue dog

Dear owners of the West Suburban Humane Society, Do you only allow people of a certain income or race adopt pets. Inquiring minds would like to know.

very bizarre adoption process. I understand checking vet records for the current pet you may have your in home, but WSHS asked for vet records of my late cat who passed away in 2022 from old age. Our beautiful cat was 16, she had an amazing life and we did our best to provide her a loving home. Yet, WSHS did not like that we didn’t take her the vet often & denied our application for one of their kittens. Vets cost money, and unless she needed a check up or we felt that something was wrong, we did not take her to the vet! You missed the opportunity to provide a loving home for a pet. Shame on you!
