Good location, good variety -- keep an eye out for sales and specialty items like import items or deli deals. Beer and wine selection is wide ranging, and often has unique finds at good prices. Often less crowded than other nearby grocers so it is ideal for limited shopping or sale-item selections. Could be cleaner at times but staff is always helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous.

Interesting that there were a few negative comments about the deli section. Its been a while since I've seen my regular guy working back there, but for some time, he was the best. He was soft spoken and wasn't much for small talk but was always fast when slicing meats and super accurate. I actually don't mind if they're slow or even go over/under the weight. I just happened to notice how good he was at doing his job and thought I'd mention it here.

This has got to be the most disgusting store in Des Plaines. My daughter purchased chicken wings the other day they were on sale they appear to be more like pigeon wings I've never seen a chicken wing so tiny bowl of feathers and bruised. It's obvious she can't choose meat properly. If you shop there stay away from the meat section

My experience with Butera and its staff was quite positive. Helpful staff that walked me to product and were pleasant....very pleasant. Folks if I give an establishment an above average review it is bacsuse they are genuinely nice people with quality product and service or both. It is grueling working every day in a supermarket and when people, despite the extremely tedious job, go out of their way to be nice they are saying we really want to survive and want to make the customer happy. Butera is that kind of place and that makes their food and beverage offering and people quite special. Love these people.

Go there for the chicken. Come out with salmonella! Holy cow. So first time and last time coming here. I go there to check out what they have and bought some chicken. When I got home, half the chicken smelled so bad that I threw it away. It looks like they mixed good chicken with 4 day old chicken and put it on sale.

I have been shopping here for some time, considered a regular and know some of the employees pretty well. But some of these other employees are almost hard to deal with sometimes. My wife was declined a purchase of wine due to her using her military ID at the time, and was told it was not acceptable form of ID and that it's story policy, she received some pretty snarky attitude from this lady. Literally days before I used my military ID, (lost my drivers license) and wasn't even denied service and had an actual decent experience. So a military ID is good enough to travel world wide and stateside and pretty much do everything else but to buy a wine from butera. Train the employees on the state law of purchasing alcohol. Don't get me wrong, prices and products are great here. But out of all the employees I know. There are 2 specific ones that I have issues with because of attitude or changes of policy.

I love that you moved to a bigger place but some of the employees are rude i went to customer service to ask if they had a item and the girl up there didn't hear me or she ignored me which i thought was rude once she saw me she had a bad attitude and what do you want instead of hi can i help you her name was Diana she said i don't know if we have that i know you carry it just wondering if there a different location i don't think she should be up there with that attitude the other girls never are like that and when i believe she don't belong there with the attitude and i have seen her do it before to other customers i love butera but if she there then i will tell other people to shop somewhere else i guess butera wants bad attitudes in customers service i feel that she Don't put anyone needs for helping customers and the store manger don't help either he never smiles or ask how are at all i remember the last manager Anthony would always greet you and ask how are you the store is t the same you got the manager that don't communicate and Diane up there with the worst customer service attitude and the assistant manager i asked for help one day and he smelled like booze on his breath you allow people like that to work at your store you pretty much let anyone get a job there but yet your short on cashiers and sales floor why fill out a job application if you wont get at least a interview or talk to the manager i have nothing to say bad about the bakery or deli elizabeth is a awesome worker and her employees do a great job herman and Brandon and michael are great hard workers and the rest that i dont know or have seen meat dept always has plenty of choices out and great deals to

I've really tried to turn the other cheek and keep shopping here, but the staff is so incredibly rude and they seem to hate their job so bad. The prices are good but it's really becoming to the point where I would rather pay more and not have to deal with an angry cashier who seems upset with me when I walk up with a cart full of groceries. Today really was the last straw tho! Getting into an argument with a cashier because I asked her to bag the bread separately - she responded by saying "what? You think you're better than me at my job?" Unbelievable!!! I understand times are hard right now so I have been extra grateful and thanking the grocery store workers everywhere. If you hate your job so bad, find another one or at least try to hide it a little. I will NEVER shop here again!

I agree with all the unhappy shoppers at this location. I have never had an incident with any of the employees but I have noticed the cashiers. They are extremely rude.. never saying good morning or a thank you. They check you out in total silence, I'm not asking for a conversation but a good morning would be nice and a thank you would be great. I don't know who is doing the hiring but the employees need to have a personality

I enjoy shopping at Butera. They have great prices and good products and a large parking lot.

Hysterical that over a year later the incredibly unhappy and borderline rude deli worker is still employed. I feel we're being punked. A few folks waiting near me said the same.

Today was my first time in this Butera, first I'll start with the good, they had a large selection, nice pricing, and the store wasn't overly crowded for a Sunday. Now the things that were off putting to me, I waited in the deli line for quite a while, no big deal, the man who helped me was extremely rude, I didn't catch his name he was Hispanic with tattoos on his arms, he was extremely irritated that I asked for the meat sliced thin, he never made eye contact with me, and did not hide that he was totally annoyed to be slicing meat, I also heard an older deli woman get snippy with a customer because he asked for his cheese in two separate bags. When we checked out the young checker also made no eye contact and just seemed generally unhappy to be there. I will give your store another shot, but management should talk to the staff to give a more inviting customer experience, and make customers feel welcomed!

This stores employees are THE most disgruntled people I have ever met. They don't even try to accommodate the customers, at least fake it, common!!! From the deli to the butcher to the one cashier who never wants to check out customers when busy. She passes the buck and bags for other cashiers. I'm tired of having to walk on eggshells with these unhappy people every time I walk in to this store. I should have figured, their store on Cumberland has a staff of jokers as well.

I really want to like this place considering it's so close to my house and the prices are very reasonable BUT I would much rather pay full price for produce then get discounted produce that barely makes it a day. I get it it's discounted because it's about to go bad but seriously?! I wish they would just carry good produce then cheap produce that doesn't last more than a day. The butchers are extremely rude but every cashier I have dealt with has been an absolute sweetheart so no complaints there! Just their produce section the main reason I go there is the problem sadly

Let me start out by saying I Love the store, 90% of the workers! The women in the bakery and produce are always working non stop, very impressive! The cashiers are the fastest I've ever seen, seriously all of them. Simply amazing! Carlos begins the deli is amazing as well! My issue is with a handful of employees that just seem to hate their jobs and lives for that matter. Specifically Cindy in the deli. If you ever get her, you'll see what I mean. She is snarky, talks down on you, and is the rudest person I've ever come across!! I'm not the only one who feels this way, I saw her with another customer and Cindy was being extremely nasty to the customer. I looked over to the customer and said "wow she's having a bad day" the customer looked at me and said "nope, she's always that nasty. I've had her before." Sure enough, my number got called next and I soon felt the wrath of her attitude as she said "what do you want?" I hope to never have Cindy again! If any of you do, I feel sorry for you!
