I have been taking my dog to Your Pets Wellness in Bucktown for years - she's had multiple surgeries there. My most recent experience was awful, to be frank. The longtime head vet apparently left a few months ago and it's gone downhill over there. I questioned why prices had more than doubled and was treated to smack talk about the old owners - guys, insulting the vet practice I took my dog to for years and trusted just make you all look shady and petty. My dog was diagnosed with cancerous masses and I asked for a surgical estimate - the practice would only send me a $2700 dental surgery estimate that they apparently decided I wanted instead. I still don't have a surgical estimate despite calling for the 4th request for this document and getting Kendra in the line, who was rude and unprofessional. Go elsewhere, this is not the vet practice it once was.

The staff here is relatively friendly and mostly seems interested in playing with our well behaved and good natured dog. The vets themselves are cursory at best and the business always seem to find a way to charge you triple digits for anything under the sun, and are always pushing more treatment, more meds, more follow ups, and little solutions. There is no continuity between visits and most of the time there is spent waiting or having the vet tech wonder why you're there when they were the ones who advised coming back. Then the vet will drop in and you'll go through the whole ordeal again. It's a scatter-shot, trial & error approach that keeps you coming back and makes for a revolving door of charges. Never once felt like they took the time to know their client/patient and work towards determining the root cause of things and deliver long term solution oriented care. At the end of the day, the fact that the treatment rooms have advertisements for third party financing programs speaks volumes. Stretched thin from the $400 charge two weeks earlier for an ear swab test and ointment? Can't afford the next $200 for a vet to visually inspect your dogs ears for 15 seconds following their strong recommendation for a follow up? Talk to our debt relief referral partner! Check your promotions folder for some loyal customer exclusive coupons on meds! The place is clean and likely a solid option for a significant procedure; however, in terms of routine or ongoing care -- which we've used them for 2.5 years -- it feels increasingly like a cash grab and we'll be looking for alternatives at this point.

Loved thos place for years however Dr Dory sold and it's terrible now. My concerns were brushed over and I mentioned it to reception. Next day Dr called, very defensive and actually accused me if distracting her too much. I booked 2 dogs, 30 minutes each which has never been an issue before. If she was overwhelmed she should have asked me to seperate the appointments. Instead she gaslit me it was my fault . I'll never be back. I wish Dory the best but finding anyone who compares will be very difficult. Spend your money elsewhere (I was very overcharged for basic shots as well) money is all they care about

My pets are not patients at this veterinarian; I live in an apartment that shares a building with this business. There are parking spaces in the rear of the building reserved for patients of the vet, but this space is also shared with dumpsters for the apartments and an entry to the apartments. The vet allows clients to park so that you physically cannot open the door to the apartment. When I inquired, I was met with a shrug and "Nothing we can do". There is another shared entrance to the apartments and vet on the other side of the building which has begun to be frequented by an employee of the vet for their smoke breaks. This makes the lobby smell disgusting. The offending employee is rude and dismissive when asked to move away from the door. So, I don't know how they treat their patients, but if it's anything like they treat their neighbors, I would recommend staying away from this business.

This place has totally gone downhill. I've taken my one dog here for years, but I recently just got another puppy. First off, they missed one of his booster shots even after I asked multiple times if the dates lined up okay. I had to pay for an extra round of shots and a wellness exam due to this error (NOT cheap, especially here). Then, I came back a few weeks later because my pup started having severe diarrhea and crying nonstop. Before the doctor even examined my pup, I was told it was because he was "hungry" and I needed to feed him until he stopped eating twice a day over a 20 minute period. I also got lectured on how to raise a puppy like I had no clue what I was doing, even though I've had many dogs in the past. They at least gave me some medicine to help with the diarrhea... I tried to feed him more, per the recommendation (immediately regretted it)... as I expected he binge ate way too much, he got SUPER bloated, kept chugging water, and his symptoms got worse. I asked if I could bring him back in, and they told me it will take time for him to adjust to his new eating schedule and to take away his water if he's drinking too much (even though he was having diarrhea which is severely dehydrating). I immediately called another local vet and luckily they were able to take us in right away. Turns out he had Giardia which requires multiple medications, he was not just "hungry". Also they told me to make sure to keep him hydrated since he's losing so much water through his poops. Thank goodness I went to another vet!!!In hindsight, I'm mad I even listened to any of their advice because it was so ridiculous. It is clear there are major issues going on here, I would definitely avoid this place if you can.

Absolutely love them. The doctors are very attentive, patient, and kind. They never seem in a rush to leave, and I love how much they obviously love animals themselves. They sit on the floor and interact with our pup in a very personal way, and that (among other things) makes us feel very welcome. The staff in general is very nice, and it's the only vet our dog gets excited to go to. I would rate them higher if I could!

Dr. Tina was the only reason I stuck around this place. She was great. Everyone else, not at all. The office staff is unorganized, unprofessional and the manager(s) do a great job of avoiding and flat out not returning calls. The facility is also filthy with air vents, baseboards caked with dirt/gunk. My dog had 2 dentals at other practices and results were as expected. Clean teeth, fresh breath. YPW charged $1600 (more than double the cost of previous dentals) and there was marginal, to no improvement overall. She went in with bad breath, came out with same ba =d breath. I also suspect YPW has a partnership with Purina because they heavily push and promote Purina's food both over the counter and Rx. Purina is also the only Rx food brand they carry in house. Avoid this practice, your pets deserve better!

Save your time and money and do not go here.Dr. Tina was amazing. Rest of staff not so great.. I had an appointment on a Friday they told me my dog needed surgery. Dr.Tina advised she can do it Tuesday before Thanksgiving. They even called to confirm the surgery the day after my appointment. I needed to know the logistics for Tuesday due to my work. I had to call Monday 4 times to confirm my dogs surgery. No one had a clue what was going on. They then tell me I was "never scheduled"(keep in mind this is 24 hours before Im supposed to drop my dog off) The practice manager then calls me to apologize and wants to reschedule the surgery at a different time/date with different vet. I inform the practice manger that I longer want to go through the surgery at Your Pets Wellness and requested the referral from Dr.Tina for another vet. I have now called 5 times since I last spoke to practice manager who advised she will call/email me with the referral. Still nothing and no referral. I manage a healthcare clinic myself I get things happen and slip through the cracks but the communication here is terrible and your pets health does not seem like a priority. I have never written a bad review but thought Id save someone else the headache and advise to not take your pets here. Thank you.

This place has really changed. I’ve gone here for almost 15 years. I have 3 cats & recently brought them in. They all needed dental work so I booked them all appointments. I had to space them out because it’s so expensive. I also had to book them on a Tuesday because the only other day they offer surgeries is Wednesday and I work all day and can’t make it. After I had made the appointments and put my deposit down they called & said I had to shift all the appointments to one day or cancel them. I couldn’t so I chose the worst off cat & only made an appointment for him. Now they’ve just called & say they have to cancel that too & they can only reschedule me on a Wednesday. I’m so disappointed and angry. None of my deposits have been refunded. I was hoping for more from a place I have dumped thousands of dollars into for years but I guess they just don’t care.

I really appreciate the staff here. My dog is a new patient here, but I’ve had to bring him in for several things in the last few months. Dr Tina has been incredible. She always promptly calls with results and has spent 15-20 minutes on the phone with me multiple times, going over findings and next steps and answering all my questions. She also went above and beyond last week after I left the clinic. She did some research to find a lower cost test option after doing a blood draw on my pup, which resulted in the office refunding me some of what I had paid earlier that afternoon. Unexpected vet bills SUCK and it’s really great to know the team here is understanding of that and wants to help. Also shout out to Jolene for being the sweetest ever, and the rest of the front office/techs for their patience dealing with me and my very whiny Roscoe.

I have three animals who have been patients here since we moved to Chicago 13 years ago. The practice is expensive and they can be a bit pushy about supplements, but you if you don’t mind saying “no, thank you” regularly, that’s not that big of a deal. Our original vet is gone, and many techs and vets have come and gone since, but we’ve kept going for continuity. Our cat, Thor, according to a technician, was upset during his senior panel blood draw at his last appointment in March, and the practice asked us to give him gabapentin before his next blood draw. This felt like a bit overkill, as he’d gotten his blood drawn there over a dozen times, but we were fine with it. I figured it was just a new tech who struggled drawing blood.Today, we made an appointment for the vet to see him because he’d become constipated and wasn’t responding to stool softener. About an hour before the appointment, I received a voicemail that we needed to give Thor gabapentin before today’s appointment. I called back about ten minutes later and asked to confirm that we needed to sedate him for a regular visit. I was told that because we hadn’t given him the gabapentin already, that it was too late and they were cancelling his appointment. I pointed out that the effect of the drug wouldn’t be much different ten minutes later. My wife called back to talk to the vet, who confirmed that they could’ve seen him had we given him the sedative at 12:30pm, but not 12:40pm.It’s pretty disappointing to take your pets to a clinic for almost 15 years, and then, when one of them is in distress, to have the appointment cancelled because a technician thought your cat was too stressed out.

Our cat Taco was rescued when he was about 2/3. He's going on 8/9 now.December 2021 we noticed Taco wasn't eating as much and he rapidly lost weight, was making strange sounds. We took him to our vet in Dallas and they put him on steroids. Basically said there was nothing else they could do. He started limping and when we took him in they said nothing was wrong. On the high dose of steroids Taco was still cuddly, he ate better.. but he just wasn't the same. His fur was thin and shedding heavily, he was sleepier than normal, spurts of energy were very quick and infrequent. We moved to Chicago December 2022 and brought him in March 2023 to establish a new vet and get a refill on his medication. We saw Dr. Dory. I sent over our records for him prior and as soon as I walked in she had questions for me. After leaving his first exam she had a plan, gave me educational pieces to look over and told me to reach out with any questions regarding her recommendations. Taco apparently was suffering from tooth reabsorption. We got a second opinion before moving forward with surgery. We decided it was worth a try and his surgery was May 23rd. We saw almost immediate improvement after a week of healing. She also noticed inflammation in his paws, which was causing the limp. After a round of antibiotics the limp has not come back.A few weeks later we saw a bit of decline again and brought him back. She spent 45 minutes with us going over his behavior, asking questions, watching videos with us. She easily could have ordered x rays, we would not have been surprised or objected at all. But she decided to put him back on a very low dose of steroids.. way lower than he's ever been on. The little guy seems to just be a ball of inflammation. It's been a few weeks since our last visit and Taco is so healthy. We cannot believe how much better he is. He's playing again, his fur is thick again, he's gained weight. He's a completely different cat.We cannot thank Dr. Dory enough for helping this boy actually feel better.Everyone in the office has been so kind. They've always done their best to get us in as soon as we needed and have answered all our questions. I highly recommend this team. Definitely note they book up fast, they aren't a big team.. and it's not an emergency clinic, but they do their absolute best to get your baby in as soon as possible.

Thankfully my Dog is healthy and doesn't get into trouble, we only have to go to a Vet annually. Living in Logan Square, I found YPW in Bucktown due to good reviews and proximity and for the most part they have been OK for the last two years doing just annual check-ups.Prices, however, have seemed to have gotten worse (especially post acquisition by Thrive Pet, a big corporate entity). When they were already borderline ridiculous. I got an estimate for a dental CLEANING (no extractions etc just for a CLEANING) on a whim last Summer, and the invoice was to a tune of nearly $1700. How does a dental cleaning for an animal cost more then a Human even without insurance? I drove back to my hometown without hesitating and went to my old Vet who did the same service for $300, WITHOUT an itemized bill like YPW had fabbed up. Seriously, they nickel and dime you down to the amount of NAPKINS they would need during surgery. They also so graciously offered a 5% discount if the invoice was paid 24 hours upon receipt ?. I've also noticed that most Dr's on staff were transplants of the VCA, take that for what you will.Going to my annual visit last week, I paid over $400 for 2x Vaccines, a Wellness Check, stool analysis, anal gland relief, and a heartworm test. My last straw was them offering to throw away a poop bag I was holding onto in the lobby and finding out they charged me a $6 disposal fee. YPW will never get another cent from me.
