Great place and great owners. I came in for a pair of men's khusas, they were not too expensive which was great. I thought I'd take a look around at some other shops since I had the time...the rest of the stores either didn't have the type I was looking for, or were looking to rip me off.
This place is great and the owners have been around for decades. They were all jokes and smiles the whole time. Wishing them all the success and happiness. Definitely recommend them to anyone in the area.

I bought a mundu which was just fine and my wife got this dress that they had to custom make the top. They were able to get the tailoring done in a day. I was very impressed with the speed.

My wife and I attended an Indian wedding in May, and after toying with ordering something online, the father of the bride recommended Uma Sarees on Devon, so I figured I'd check it out. We entered the store at about 1 p.m. on a Saturday, and in less than an hour, I had completed one of the best shopping experiences of my life--granted, most of my shopping experiences are centered on the clearance rack at stores or the "50 percent off!" page on websites but still. Uma was incredibly helpful. I told her I was looking for something for a Sangeet that didn't make me look like I was nine months pregnant. She sized me up--and there's a lot to size up--and pulled four Kurtas from the shelf behind her. While I tried them on, I overheard Uma and her husband joking around with my wife--I'm assuming about me--which made me feel even more at home. I ended up selecting a set based on Uma's recommendation. We looked around the store for a while, chatting with Uma about their business--the first Indian apparel shop on Devon Avenue--and what to expect at the Sangeet. Thanks to the great service and casual approach, my wife and I exited the store with some super cool clothes and in a better mood than when we entered. Just a wonderful shopping--and social--experience.

We went to Uma Sarees to purchase items for an Indian wedding this fall. They were knowledgeable, attentive, and went out of their way to help us. In 1.5 hours we had all of our clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. for three people and were on our way!

My partner and I needed outfits for an Indian wedding, and we went to the store totally unfamiliar with what we needed. Uma gave us a warm welcome and quickly helped us pick the right lehenga and kurta in a matter of minutes. Most impressively, she eyeballed the proper sizes for both of us, before we ever tried anything on. Great experience, and now we're ready to celebrate.

I needed a blouse made for my wedding saree and Uma was able to make it quickly and it looks great! She made sure to have me try it on to see if any adjustments were needed (though they definitely weren't!). I won't hesitate to return if I need anything else made!

By far the best, friendliest customer service of all of the shops on Devon and exceptionally welcoming to people unfamiliar with sarees

Uma Sarees is THE place to shop on Devon for beautiful Indian clothing and jewelry in a relaxed setting. Fantastic service from Uma. Reasonable prices and no haggling. There's a reason Uma has been in business for almost 50 years. All of the stores along Devon have beautiful merchandise. Uma's low-key but attentive service sets her apart.

Thank you to the kindest woman ever at Uma Sarees! Over a year ago, on the way to O’Hare airport headed to 2 weddings in Chennai, I called this store on a last ditch effort bc the shirt I was to wear w my sari had not arrived. The owner said come in, no matter what we will make sure you’re ready to go! I was in and out within minutes with a perfectly appropriate shirt- which worked for the more modern sari I had already and the traditional sari I purchased to match my son after we arrive as well as beautiful jewelry. Thank goodness, because the wedding was only hours after we arrived! Thank you for the wonderful service & taking the time to make sure I was going to appropriately attired.

Plus point: Shop owners are great sales people. Minus point: I got conned in to buying a way overpriced sari for my wedding that I wasn’t allowed to drape before purchase (should’ve been my first clue) which is common practice at sari shops in India. She could tell that I didn’t know much about saris and I felt taken advantage of. By the time I finally got to the store it was too late to return it, but I ended up finding a better sari for cheaper a few stores down in the same neighborhood. Definitely will not recommend to those that are not familiar with sari buying.
