I will start out by saying that in general, I've had very good experiences at this particular Home Depot, aka store #1961 on Elston. They have lots of people on the floor to help; they are generally knowledgeable and helpful; Customer Service is fairly pleasant; and they even gave me store credit and took a return of something I'd bought at Menard's. So I will keep coming here for things when I need them, basically, the minor things like hardware, lights, grill stuff, and the like. That said, you are taking your chances when you do a major purchase with them that includes after-the-sale service, and there are times it can all go upside-down. This is one of them.Bought eight interior doors plus installation for a cost in excess of $5K. The purchase itself was basically frictionless. The installation, however, was--to put not too fine a point on it--a fucking nightmare.First of all, the molding that came with the doors was damaged beyond belief. Even the painters we hired to do our house afterward couldn't effectively patch some of the gouges. Plus, the guys who delivered it kept making these little comments insinuating they expected a tip. We would have tipped them, anyway, but their commentary felt really slimy. Then, instead of two installers across a day and a half, as promised, it was one guy across three days, and he kept screwing up the install and we kept having to get him to come back to fix things, but where he would also make more egregious mistakes. He was so eager to get the job fucking done already and to never have to come back that he was in our house on Saturday night until 830pm.The first clue this guy was awful should have been early on when, as one of his first acts, he installed a doorknob on a bathroom door BACKWARDS, with the lock on the outside, and I had to point this out to him! And this guy was supposed to be a professional?? I mean, seriously, what the hell was this guy on?? And why was he on it while on the job?? There's more, but I don't want to write an entire book here. Suffice to say, this was not an isolated mistake. The install misadventure got so bad that we had to go to the store and request a replacement guy to finish the job, which the people in Doors at store #1961 on Elston made clear to us through their passive-aggressive horseshit that they were none too happy with us for the request. So much for "satisfaction guaranteed", although to be fair, I never have seen the words "Home Depot satisfaction guaranteed" all in the same sentence, or even the same paragraph. The second installer was better, but he still left mistakes unfixed, and he wouldn't swing back around to fix them unless we went through the store on it which, no thanks, we had no desire to deal with their attitudes anymore. We ended up paying extra to a punch-list guy outside the company to fix the errors, and even he couldn't fix some of them because the install was that terrible. While I will continue to buy the little things here, I would highly recommend you not got doors at Home Depot, or at least not at store #1961 on Elston. Pay a little more and get good quality doors from an actually-reputable doors company who have good installers. This store should probably either go out of the Doors business, or else find people who are good at it.

I remodeled my basement a few years ago, and my contractor and I bought everything at the Elston Ave. Home Depot. A few weeks ago, I wanted to buy a back door. I called Home Depot several times, but the phone system is not good, and I couldn't get through to the department. I came in and spoke to someone, but she didn't give me the correct information. I came back the following day to speak to a manager. His name is Prince, and he is truly a Prince. He told me that I would have a discount on the door to make up for the poor customer service that I had experienced. He also gave me his cell number. Ultimately, they didn't have the door that I wanted, and I called and told him that I had found what I needed at Menard's. He told me that I could pick out some things to make up for the lack of customer service. I came in a few days later, and got a whole lot of cleaning supplies! He kept telling me to take more! I was a 78 year old kid in a candy store! Prince is truly a Prince, and a smart manager. I do hope that they can improve upon the phone system. However, I will keep coming back and ignore the poor phone service. The customer service is great! Thank you, Prince!

AVOID THE HOME DEPOT AT 2570 N ELSTON - from unresponsive management to unknowledgeable & lazy Pro Desk staff to poor customer service generally, this is hands down the least professional Home Depot I have been to. Top to bottom, this s not the standard this company wants to set ... too bad - location great for north side residents ...

Rented a power washer. Worked great . When I picked it up I was told to wipe it down before returning or else I’d be charged for cleaning. I did (wiped down the machine, the hose, and the chord). But apparently not meticulously enough because when I returned it they still charged me for cleaning. I don’t mind paying for cleaning. But I do mind cleaning it, and then still paying for cleaning. If the standard is perfection, say so up front and I won’t waste my time.

I had the best experience looking for plants at this Home Depot! A very kind woman named Lex walked me through what each plant would do and be in different lights and different water. I was blown away by her knowledge and patience. If you're going to look for plants, you should check out this Home Depot. They have such a great selection. And make sure to ask for Lex!

Zero stars... if possible. every time I come to any Home Depot, it's always the same result. Disappointment. The app reflects inventory that is never accurate and it's always a hassle to get help from any employee. Most of the staff seem like they're already being asked to much by breathing. Most times no one is willing to help until you get to the self check out and for some reason, they're very eager then. I wish I could say it was one Home Depot in particular but unfortunately, it's like Walmart, they're all the same. I'm a handyman so I have no choice most of the time and it's so refreshing when I do find an employee that is helpful and not rude. Menards, if you can see this please take over and rename their locations.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY COUNTERTOPS FROM THE HOME DEPOT. The company they use, TCF, is truly awful. Our project was delayed for months, they lost pieces from our project and had to redo the whole thing. While doing so, they destroyed our recently renovated kitchen. The end result is so bad. Pieces are misaligned, they measurements are wrong, they don't even align to the outlets!! They took so long and canceled numerous times. It was a nightmare!

I just read all of the negative reviews and I gotta say they are correct. However, I was floored when I went to Home Depot this week and a very helpful employee actually solved my problem. His name is Nathaniel, and he and his fellow worker actually went out of their way to assist me. It was a small order, but with service like this I'll come back to Home Depot for my big orders (My prior experience was with another Home Depot store who informed they did not return unopened non sale appliances over $1,000.00 , needless to say I haven't bought an appliance from Home Depot since then and I have rental property) Thank you again, Nataniel you made my day ,and I told my friends, help at Home Depot? Like a miracle!

I really like this store and the staff but I am having a very negative experience with the third party GC Home Depot works with for flooring. I've had to escalate to corporate.

I just left here. Every time I come in here the "cashiers" ring me up in self check out. Are you a cashier? or is this self check out? I am NOT handicapped I am well and able to do things on my own. Today I looked around and was like I don't see them ringing anyone else up. Why is it always me? I asked the "cashiers" they had no real excuse. I said why didn't you ring them up? Why didn't you ring that guy up? Why am I the only one? I stood in customer service line and asked for the manager, the store manager should know these things. Instead I talked to someone named Chad who never let me talk to a manager and said "I'm sorry you feel that way" and he will pass my concerns along. It's not how I feel it's what happened, and it happens every time I go there. Why? Is it the color of my skin? Is it my youthful looks? I am sorry to have to write this, cause Luis with the superhero mask gets 5 stars, manager if you read this, give that guy a raise, he stopped what he was doing to tell me where 3 different items were, and showed me the way. Other than that this location sucks!

I've come here for three years and always had a good experience. I started coming a lot more in the last year, bringing my mother with me when she moved to Chicago and we bought a house together. The staff is so helpful and on it, and just friendly in a relaxed, non-fake way. Shoutout to Kyna, who has graciously helped us with everything under the sun that we've had to deal with buying an old house... we've had a lot of stresses and coming here was never one of them. In fact, I like to bring my mom to this Home Depot in particular - we moved closer to a different one - because it makes her happy to talk to people she knows, and they always take the time to make sure we are getting what we need. It sure makes a big difference. She doesn't feel that way about most places we go. I'm very appreciative of this place.

Iyanna CSR at 2750 N Elston (Chicago) makes the difference! She stayed with us (my wife and I) from beginning to the end! Upon checkout, we specifically spoke to a manager (Carlos ?) to inform him of quite a pleasant experience with Iyanna. The store was consistently friendly, but she went above and beyond! We live in an age where cust svc is consistently terrible and employees shy away from helping the consumer. What a breath of fresh air HP. You have a star in Iyanna! She's really going places! Recognize the value in this rising star of an employee that HD has! She's a difference maker! She's take charge, and knows how to ask others for help (she took us to the paint, and lumber, departments. Those CSRs were very helpful as well. Btw, Iyanna's main expertise is Gardening, Outdoors, Plants), while helping the consumer. My wife and I are entrepreneurs. We love when we recognize young talent. Iyanna perfect self expression is authentic and not forced. Over a year ago, I shopped at menards, in homewood, and they are the absolute worst. The greeters have nasty dispositions (personal convo, on cell) and management is even worse. This Home Depot experience was how it should be done! Kudos to HD!

I ordered an outdoor light to be delivered to my home. Home Depot says it was delivered but I did not get it. Home Depot won't replace or refund the light. They said they got a signature upon delivery. I asked to see it and they said actually, they didn't get a signature. The tracking software says it was out for delivery at 6:55 and delivered at 6:30. I pointed out that this would require a time machine and they still won't provide a refund. They told me to dispute it with my credit card company.

The rental department in this store will charge a cleaning fee no matter how clean you return their tools. You should just return the tool dirty because they are going to charge you for it regardless
