The place was fun, went with my cousins and looks like the Night at the Museum, if you have been there. Watch out for live characters, like Roosevelt.

Such a fascinating and cool place! We were there for about 2.5-3 hours and only saw a tiny fraction of the museum. We got tickets ahead of time through the CityPass app. We went first thing after they opened which was probably a good idea since things got crazier later in the morning. We enjoyed all of the taxidermied animals since you can see some really cool details up close. We also made sure to see Sue the dinosaur and the Egyptian exhibit. All really fascinating.

We visited this place many times when I lived in IL. One of my faves.

I had really high hopes for this museum, especially since natural history museums usually top my list of favorites! However, the general admission fee is a bit steep at 20 USD, which translates to over 30 CAD per adult. Once inside, there are additional exhibits requiring purchases of around 7-10 USD each. We explored the free exhibits but found them lacking in original artifacts, some exhibits were rather small and spread out across the museum, and overall, they left us underwhelmed. To provide context, I've visited the American Natural History Museum in New York and found it to be far superior to this one. Moreover, we made the mistake of visiting on a school holiday, resulting in overcrowding and noise in every exhibit due to families with small kids. Considering the price, I felt the value of the museum didn't quite measure up. Perhaps the highlight for me was the main entrance hall, which is free to enter and is really photogenic!

Took my wife here on our trip to Chicago for our son's RTC Great Lakes graduation. The parking was easy enough to find, especially when we exited one exit too soon; otherwise, maps would have taken us to the front door instead of the parking area. We waited in line outside, which moved pretty quickly and was not an issue due to having good weather that day and did not buy our tickets in advance, because I wanted to use my veteran discount, which saved us quite a bit at the ticket counter. The place is amazing, to say the least, but with everything amazing, there are also downsides. First, they allowed people to come in with large strollers, even side by side and wagons, which made it very difficult to get around. Like other museums, they had upcharges for special attractions and we decided to add the Ocean Exhibit, which turned out to be more for little kids and not adults-not worth the money for either, as most of the kids could care less about anything. The next issue was they had large portions of the museum, in the Native American Halls, papered off due to their ongoing lawsuit. I say if you have exploited a people's culture for your benefit, then pay them and return the items and only use ones that have been freely donated for showings. Next would be the gift shop. We wanted a souvenir from our visit, but everything in there was made for little kids, or had no use for adults. We were just looking for something that said The Field Museum to display, but no luck. Finally, we parked in the garage, which stated our fee would be $20 for the time we were there, but since they don't have cashiers, the online payment method assumes it would take a while to get out of the garage, even after 4 pm when they close at 5 and charged an extra $5. What a scam!

Finding something for the whole family to enjoy during spring break is rough. However, the Field Museum was perfect for the entire family. We spent 3hrs there and no one complained about anything. We all were amazed by the size of the museum and the exhibits on display. My 5yr old enjoyed the mummy exhibit the most (who knew). If you haven't visited here please make it one of your stops of places to visit in Chicago.

Great museum with lots to see and read. It's not super great for younger children. There is a kids play lab on the lower level that has hands-on activities for the kids. The museum is definitely more for those who are actually interested in history. Sue the dino is awesome. Have several others dinosaurs on display. Upper level has many animal exhibits and skeletons.

Fantastic Museum! We went on a Spring Break Tuesday when it was a lot busier than usual but there still was plenty of space and did not seem overcrowded. We spent about 5 hours here and still did not see everything. It was well worth the price of admission. The building itself is beautiful and the exhibits were very well done. I would definitely come back again. We entered through the East entrance without tickets and did not have to wait in line to get tickets or get in. The main entrance seemed pretty backed up. If you don't want to wait in line and don't mind a little walk outside I'd recommend using the East Entrance (by the entrance to the Shedd Aquarium).
