ive been going through hell with this whole disability thing almost 3 years of wasted time. the only good thing about the past 2 years was having lauren as my attorney. she made things much more bearable and was super fast to respond to any questions or concerns that i had which is super rare these days.

I have absolutely no reservations about recommending Shapiro, Cohen & Basinger. I retained Lauren Cohen to represent me in my auto accident. I had spoken with other attorneys who had not been interested in my case due to the complexity of the medical claim and the defendent being a corporation. She took on my case and was dogged in her representation during the whole 3 years of my treatment, the defendent dragging it's feet, and my court date being pushed out repeatedly due to COVID. Throughout the whole process, she kept me informed and received my questions with patience and sensitivity. I hired Lauren Cohen to represent me when I was injured in an auto accident. Lauren Cohen was very professional and responded to all my questions and concerns very quickly. She explained/prepped me for each process thoroughly throughout my case. My case lasted just over 2 years and we did go into a deposition which I was extremely nervous for, but she was there every step of the way & Don Shapiro even joined in on the deposition phone call which is where the final deal was made… They fought for me and got me a great settlement all during COVID. I highly recommend this firm they are amazing people to work with.

When I called in to ask if I had a case their answer was disrespectful in the most passive aggressive way. I initially called in to ask to see if there was a case in my situation with regards to my son who had been in a rehabilitation center that I had to pull him out of because I didn’t agree with their practices. It’s not that the response of the law firm was something that angered me but what I felt was even more lost than I had been before even calling them. I can afford to pay for legal services so why they decided I wasn’t worthy of an answer is completely beyond me.I initially called in because I wanted to ask if in fact I had a case against the rehab center my son was in, due to the fact that there were practices that seemed to me were completely not normal when it came to his treatment. The center was administering absurd amounts of medication rendering my son completely lethargic and almost non responsive to normal human interaction. At some point, the center had been hiding information from me in fear that I would make a fuss as to what was actually happening to him. As a result of all the medication he had been on he was sent to a hospital emergency room and even the doctors at the ER were surprised that he was on all of these different medications causing him very serious symptoms.I’m telling this story on here because I want everyone to understand, this inquiry I had for the law firm was not one that was simply out of me being overly cautious or paranoid, I truly believe I found a real problem with them and thought that if these practices are being done with him-it’s being done with everyone who resides there and it seemed as if they were filling people up with medications just to keep them lethargic in order to keep control of them. The result of all of this was a huge ER medical bill that I am now responsible for, but should I be?When I called the law offices, I had a question as to whether or not I have a case in this matter, the receptionist was super sweet and forwarded the line to the lawyer. While explaining my case, he was rather attentive, his response thought was kind of surprising. Now I don’t claim to know about the law, especially malpractice law, but if I speak to someone who has proclaimed to know I would think there would be an elaborate answer as to whether or not why I would or wouldn’t have a case. His response was, “is your son dead?” I was a bit taken back but I tried to understand that sometimes these difficult questions are needed in order to get to the actual point. I told him that in fact my son is not dead but his reply was simply, “well if he isn’t dead then we don’t have a case.” Now I’m no expert, but I don’t think that the only cases such as this would ever work if my son was dead? Is there something I’m missing here? There was definitely a sad side of me that came through, it was my 1st call to ask about this knowing it may be complicated and I was shot down simply because my son had not died in this particular issue. My best guess would be to think that since this case may have been more complicated than just someone dying, that this particular lawyer did not want to work it which is fine, but if this is the kind of firm I called then for sure I wouldn’t want to hire them for anything else. To all who may read this, I’ve called many other law firms and they were actually very willing to help me get to where I need to be, even if they themselves couldn’t have helped me they pointed me in the right direction in order for me to get myself prepared. In this case, the truth is in the lack of their knowledge simply because my case didn’t scream dollar signs to them. My read on their way of doing business is the easy in and out, if you have a death in your case your golden, if you have anything complicated I wouldn’t waste your time on even a phone call.
