I've been renting with Erik and RedStar for three years and it's been great. They're responsive and handle any issues quickly. I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a hassle-free, enjoyable renting experience.

I’ve been a tenant for two years. Overall, a positive experience. Had a few issues along the way and Erik (property manager) was very helpful and took action right away. The apartment itself was above standard for space, it was in a quiet building, with nice neighbors.

The owner, Erik Carrier, makes service promises that are never fulfilled. We had Redstar as our property managing company for a while and they were a complete waste of money. We actually lost money by hiring them rather than managing our own condo building ourselves. They performed work on the same plumbing problem several times and never resolved it. They gouged us on pricing of vendors they located or hired consistently. They provided us quotes for work that were two to three times more expensive than the quotes we located ourselves. Do your own research on the owner and this "company" and you'll uncover the same background that we did after hiring them. This is a poor excuse for a company. They are inept, rude, patronizing, arrogant, and unscrupulous.

This was a wonderful apartment. If I had any problems with the place, Redstar were very quick to deal with it.

RedStar took over our management from another company. The level of communication and attention to issues has improved dramatically and I could not be more pleased. They are proactive and responsive. I would highly recommend them. I live in a large, older building in Wicker Park and having an effective management company has been a game changer.

I rented from Erik for a year and have never found such as condescending human being as him. He has no bedside manners and talks down to you as if you’re dumb. I initially had a good experience until he found out I was moving and not renewing my lease. He stopped responding when there was a bug infestation in the room and kept telling me he would let me know when the exterminator was coming out and they never did. I left the apartment on June 16 and my lease ended on June 25 with plenty of time for him to post the apartment and rent it out. Mind you I was at fault for not taking pictures when I left the unit that I cleaned before leaving it spotless and with no damages. I asked multiple times about my security deposit and he kept stalling and never giving me the answer as to why he wouldn’t mail until I kept at it and he called me yelling at me to stop calling him. It is my right to get MY money. He was rude enough to say “since you’re acting this way, I’m going to hold it till the 45 day mark!” When I got my security deposit he deducted $300 for supposedly cleaning the carpet and deep cleaning the unit. I knew about the carpet because it was stated in the lease but the deep cleaning the unit was all a lie to get back at me. That unit was deep cleaned before I left it. So the lesson to be learned here is if you can find some other apartment to rent that’s the best way to go. DO NOT rent from this guy, but if you must always take pictures and don’t give him the keys or leave until you do the walk through with him and confirm how much you’ll get back from your security deposit and make sure to document it. Erik is not a person anyone should deal with.A response to your reply: STOP LYING! The pest problem was never solved and I clearly told you that in the text. All you said I had to do when I left was to remove some personal items I had in the unit which I clearly did and I have the text messages to prove it. Not once did you say the unit was dirty. The only other thing you mentioned were the lightbulbs which I told you were out since I got the unit and you stated “I’ll take your word for it.” So stop with the lies of giving me a checklist of things I needed to get done before leaving. I’m not out for $200 vengeance! You clearly are money hungry and need to go learn some bedside manners. I’m glad I’m out and I want to make sure others don’t rent from you.
