Powell's has an amazing collection of books for sale. Unfortunately, the staff is very unwelcoming. It seemed they were upset that my husband and I had entered the store. I will definitely think twice before I decide to go back.

Powell's Bookstore in Chicago is an interesting and intriguing bookstore to enter and browse its vertical book shelves and its tabletop offerings. The store has a wide variety of book topics, from the academically serious to science fiction, children's stories, comic anthologies, literature and poetry, and more. The titles are thoughtfully selected for eager readers, and the prices for the used books are pretty reasonable. The store also has some antiquarian collections which are quite interesting. I highly recommend this long-time, independent bookstore.

Love that they have a socialism section, they used to have an anarchism section I think but now it's kinda mixed in with socialism and Marxism. Also like that they have a lot more biblical comentary than most bookstores in general. Lastly I am a book collector and they have a much better than most antique book collection; pretty pricey as those things usually go.

The best book store ever. Walked out buying 15 books for less than $100. Well classified and distributed categories . Check them out if you are close by.

They do not allow access to bathroom for customers or public. They offer amazing prices for a wide selection of books. They are amazing!

If you're a bibliophile, this is a hidden Hyde Park gem. A section for everyone. It's a nice place to take a book lover and browse before you buy. The stock is always rotating, so visit often.

Probably my favorite bookstore in Chicago. A swelling collection of nonfiction. Pricey, though, expect to pay ~$15/title

For serious readers, or even the semi-serious, this is definitely the best bookstore in Chicago. For lifestyle adjustment reasons (I got old) I had to leave the Hyde Park neighborhood, and therefore proximity to Powell's. And I miss it terribly.

Very good book variety, very good prices. If you need a cookbook or a book on Al Capone, they have you covered.

Lacking selection, including on some extremely popular and common academic texts. But still decent relative to other bookstores considering the sheer amount of stock shelved here.

I can't express how much I love this bookstore, I was visiting the city as a tourist and stepped into this bookstore our of random interest, then I spent my whole afternoon there. Got some photography book surprisingly, the people are also nice. I asked for some gifts recommendation and it turns out my friend loved it!

Amazingly organized for how large the inventory is. Good ambience and some fun corners to tuck into; I would recommend this store to anyone looking to get lost in books for a couple hours. Two hours here went by pretty quickly. -1 star for no public restrooms :/ p

Great books and friendly, serviceable staff. The rare books are quite pricey but well worth it in my opinion. I do feel sad that I've only just discovered this place as I leave Chicagoland, but such is the way.
