These thieves charged five different purchases to my credit cards in amounts between $40.25 and $50.13. The Oct 3 shift refused to speak with me about the issue.

This used to be my favorite grocery store when I moved to West Loop, and most reviews from 7 years ago are positive. Sadly it went downhill and pretty hard a bit since pre pandeminc and it just came to a point where it is not enjoyable in any way.
I'll itemize a few of my complains:
- General ambience: Used to be a cute local version of whole foods feel. attention to details, escalators, elevators, floors, and lots of light. Now elevators smell, escalators are broken half the time, the windows were cover to create more space for an ever invasive surveillance. It is just unwelcoming.
- Seafood: used to be awesome. Now the seafood section is a disaster. Reeking, open clams. Dubious shrimp. From now on seafood on H-Mart.
- Fresh juice: a bragging point, people would talk about their freshly squeezed juices. Now the orange juice is a clear liquid on top and deposits on the bottom. Last time I bought it tasted fermented. I'm just getting oranges and squeezing them at home now.
- Tons of expired products. All the time. Milk, cheese, shelf stable stuff. I even got moldy butter... like... how do you get moldy butter?
Those are all symptoms of a general decay. If that's what I can see, then I wonder about all the things I can't see.
There are still some things Mariano's has that are more convenient than it's competitors nearby, but the list has been reduced to probably two things now:
- Wine. Their selection and price is great. Particularly with the 15% discount.
- Bells and Evans chicken. Although, if they keep having issues keeping the cold chain then it is going to be as unsafe as the seafood.
I think that this may be one of the last trips I've done there.

Horrible experience, impossible checkout and the worst customer service. Worth the $ and effort to go to Whole Foods.

Absolutely ridiculous. It takes 15 minutes to buy a bottle of whiskey because you have to wait 5 minutes for someone to open the counter. Then, they don’t even give it to you—they send it to customer service, where you end up waiting even longer because it’s not a normal checkout process.
There are plenty of better places to shop. I don’t have 15 extra minutes for a $20 purchase. It was frustrating that the employee wouldn’t hand me the bottle, making me feel like a criminal. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere if this continues.

This used to be our go grocery store for many years due to the location since it’s 2 mins away from where we live. It sad to see the drop in quality and rises in prices. I hope they do something to bring the old Mariano back.

The hiring manager is a literal nightmare. Shanita has no sense of urgency, consideration for other people’s time and she lacks professionalism especially in a place of work like Human Resourses. Your job is to be resourceful for your employees but in reality all you care about is yourself. It’s time to grow up and put on a big girl shirt and do your big girl job.

the management has gone downhill once the past store manager anna left - she was the glue holding this entire store together. i can see why she left in general. but i do believe pam and jose are good managers and they have excellent customer service and are more than great at their jobs!
some of the workers do not care about their job enough and it shows in their work ethic. the workers at stan's donuts are good at what they do so props to them for being the face of the store downstairs while also dealing with the people upstairs.
this is an OK mariano's. the salad bar is sometimes (70% of the time) dirty and unkept so it's never appetizing when you pass by it. the sushi is the only good food that you should be getting from this store and i mean that with a grain of salt.
sometimes there are boxes everywhere which i understand restocking is a thing but it seems like it's more than an everyday thing which is kind of upsetting if you're a customer that just wants to get their groceries and not deal with bumping into boxes and pushing them to the ground. >_<

I really dislike writing bad reviews but something has to be said. Typically when I come here the experience is very DISAPPOINTING. The customer service here is HORRIBLE to say the least. The prices for the products are almost always INCORRECT. The quality of the food is POOR. There’s always EXPIRED items on the shelves. Today while shopping 08/06/24 I was chased by not one but two HUMONGOUS New York City style RATS ? down the aisle. The upkeep of this establishment has gone down tremendously over the years. But to have a RAT INFESTATION AT A GROCERY STORE IS BEYOND ME !!! Stay far away from this establishment.

It seems like Mariano's is actively undermining their own business—it's gone from a decent grocery chain to a place that's dirty and poorly managed. Here's why I’ve stopped shopping at the West Loop location:
Pricing Discrepancies: The prices displayed in the store never match what you’re charged at checkout. This happens every single time I shop there. Since self-checkout is encouraged, the attendant just removes the item when there’s a mismatch. I’ve even gone back with photos of sale prices, but the self-checkout staff won't accept them. (I don’t blame them; they’re probably underpaid and overworked. This is an operational failure.)
Expired Food: The food on the shelves is often past its expiration date, so you have to be extra vigilant and check every best-by date to avoid buying expired products. This indicates a lack of proper store management.
What’s going on? Why has the Mariano’s in the West Loop become so poorly managed and unclean?

This place has really turned into a depressing experience. No offense. Used to be really lively and clean and people sitting at the wine bar at well staffed. Now it is kind of third world depressing. Long lines. Sad staff. Like a supermarket you might find in Belarus.

These people really are the rudest and most disgusting people that work in there some of the managers and some of the departments are OK but a lot of those young people in there are nothing but rude and disrespectful and a lot of those managers upfront. Think that it’s OK to be the same way with them and think it’s funny that they make fun of customers They should all be ashamed to judge anybody.

This place has a lot of judgmental people who have no reason to judge anybody else but themselves a lot of disrespectful, lazy people, especially in the deli very rude. Very disgusting to customers. Unhelpful will sit there and go back-and-forth and look at you standing there and won’t do anything to help you, the people upfront, including the cashiers and the managers are very rude. They’re very disrespectful. They talk about customers in front of people and it’s just disgusting Class, these people can sit there and judge others who make way more than them

Had an incredible experience with Liz in the bakery. I searched everywhere for a coconut cream pie, called the bake shop and Liz didnt quit till she found one! Soooo appreciative of that level of service and care!
