Racist store director, overheard him talking terribly about the immigrants outside with no remorse for kicking them off the sidewalk. Food is expired a lot of the time and I've gotten sick from it on multiple occasions with the hope of seeing some improvement even with the lack of staff. Managers Orlando and Dug are very accommodating and seem to be very hardworking guys but marianos care and quality has gone out the window. Workers don't even seem happy because of the conditions and lack of support given to them. Half the doors downstairs are blocked and closed, the escalators suck and thats if they are opperating considering half the time its been out of service. And the self checkouts downstairs and around the store are almost NEVER open. It seems that they only open these registers when a "corporate visit" is happening. I guess they don't want to pay the employees to stand and do the job and only use it for show.

The cashiers don't know their return policy. It was embarrassing to let them know. Even when I showed them the policy online, the black girl with braids tried to dismiss it. They ended up calling the manager and he ended up refunding me but the fact she refused to read the website's policy tells me how ignorant she is. Very unfortunate.

I love how they can grill the steak, burgers what ever you want to grill they can do it. The only problem is there is no set hours for the grill master.

I love this store but finding this hidden under the label was very poor. All the other pieces were amazing. I hope they ensure there is better quality management next time.

This store has 3 floors.
Top Floor: Parking Lot Entrance.
Mid Floor: Groceries.
First Floor: Street Entrance.
Store is extremely clean and has a lot of food where you can get and there are less Self Checkouts which is good.
This store is great for Public Transportation 81 Lawrence where you can go to the Lakefront or Jefferson Park, and Ravenswood Metra Station where you can go to Waukegan, Highland Park, Evanston or Ogilvie Transportation Center in West Loop as well!

Constantly out of common items. When handles break on refrigerator doors, they stay broken for months. Expensive. Hot bar food is gross compared to when they opened. We only shop here because it’s a 2 block walk. We almost always go somewhere else if we can.

I had an exemplary experience at the Mariano's grocery store on Western Avenue in Chicago, specifically with the store's manager. He embodied exceptional dedication to his role and inspired me to speak up and contribute to creating a better environment for all. His approach, which made me feel valued and respected, is something that all entities, including law enforcement agencies, could benefit from adopting. It takes courage to voice one's concerns, but the manager demonstrated that by encouraging individuals to report any issues, we can work together towards creating a more positive atmosphere.

I live in neighborhood. I use to love this Mariano's in Ravenswood until Yesterday when I was in self-checkout and was the only customer who was singled out and asked to see recipient . Mind you every self checkout had a customers and I was the only one this older African American woman with medium length hair who"always wears a face mask" singled me out. That made me uncomfortable. I understand protocol but don't pick and choose who you want to antagonize . After checking my receipt. I politely left but that was very uncomfortable.
Go to the Mariano's on Western!! Way better customer service

Scamming people. A lot of prices are false. Check the prices of everything as you scan.

“Aggressive employee”
Two days ago, on a Saturday evening, I went to the Mariano's store near my house on Lawrence Avenue. I've been a customer there for over 5 years and have always appreciated the good customer service. However, on that particular night, I had a very unpleasant experience. I've noticed a lack of friendliness from a specific employee in the past but never really had a chance to talk to her. But on Saturday night, she was extremely aggressive and disrespectful toward me. I was at the cashier register with my fiancée and she ran towards my shopping cart at the cashier register, started yelling at me, and waved her arms aggressively. Despite my attempts to calm her down, she didn't listen and even push me and tried to grab my phone when I wanted to take a picture of her name. I felt very unsafe and unwelcome. I hope Mariano's will be more selective in choosing their employees so that I can feel comfortable shopping there again. I attached the picture with her name to this review. Her name is Angie, be aware guys.

Lost its quirky charm since they walled in the cool piano bar. No more sushi bar to dine at or oyster bar! I miss those, but am saving money when I shop there now. I loved watching people grocery shop while holding a long stemmed glass of chardonnay, but that might have been a safety issue. Food selection is still good, though. Im not sure if they’re still selling spices loose, which I loved so you don’t get stuck with big old bottles of stuff you only use a few times a year so they go bad. Hopefully I just missed seeing them on this last visit because loose spices is the BEST idea!

My major issue with this store isn’t the food. They have three doors to enter the store from the street: two automatic doors, and one revolving door. Usually, at least one automatic door is blocked by a trash can (I believe the door is broken somehow), but sometimes, both are blocked. This leaves the revolving door as the only exit in case of emergency. Which is to say, if there’s ever so much as a false alarm, people could get seriously hurt. Whoever places displays at this location is intentionally making it difficult to get around the store. Great for inducing extra purchases from a customer, and also great for causing panic in an emergency. There are simple solutions for this, and I’m continually disappointed that nobody even tracks this as a problem. It’s like being a soldier and falling asleep on guard duty; it’s fine, so long as nothing happens.

Do not buy anything from the seafood counter, the fish "cooler" section, or from the raw meat counter for that matter! There is no quality control and on numerous occasions the fish I bought was rotten upon purchase. I just attempted to buy little neck clams and out of 36 clams in the raw bar, only 6 were seemingly fresh, and even those were questionable. I had to throw it all out and I've had to on numerous occasions in the past. I can also guarantee that their cooler section of prepackaged fish is not being properly managed and is not food-safe. I've worked in the food business for 15 years and I would never let anyone buy raw food here. If a Mariano's manager reads this, DO NOT blame any of your counter attendants or fishmongers, this is on you.
