I stop at this Mariano's because not only do I live nearby, it's part of my routine on Friday mornings after leaving the barbershop. I like to get my errands done as early as I can on Fridays so I won't have to go to grocery store on weekends because the store is more crowded on Saturday and Sunday. Generally I have no problems with this place but the last couple of times I came here for groceries on Friday mornings there was a higher presence of store security walking around. I'm black and normally I expect this to a certain degree because people are generally racist ( sad but true) but on Friday mornings it's very extra at this place. There's a short hispanic looking male with a black security jacket on that watches me all over the store. I know that's his job but he was obnoxious with it. After I pay for my groceries this little short hispanic security guy made a point to wait until i was coming to the front with my cart of groceries and proceeded to walk in front of my cart so I could clearly see "security" on the back of his jacket. I know he did this on purpose because I was only a handful of the black people there. I find it very insulting because I gave no reason to follow or watch me so I know it was ONLY because I was black. So if you're black and you go to Mariano's particularly in the mornings before 12 noon YOU WILL BE followed around by security. It's a shame this place is RACIST because the way they were acting I KNOW FOR SURE they are trained to watch every black person more closely. I will take my money someplace else this is not the only store in Chicago to go to.

There is a clearly obvious management issue at this store! I've seen a lot of reviews on here mentioning attitudes from the staff; this wouldn't be happening if management was doing everything they could to help this store. It's completely disfuncional here. No lanes open, long lines at the self checkouts with people forced to go through with 25+ items. (mind you the store closes an entire side of self checkout DURING RUSH HOUR) No baskets, can never find my favorite items in stock. I'd rather gauge my eyeballs out than deal with the chaotic hell scape that is this store. I've had MUCH better luck at the Jewel-osco a few blocks away off of Broadway. To end my case, do everyone a service and fire the management here!!!!

I was appalled that only two registers were open on a Sunday night. The lovely cashier who was friendly despite the duress, a senior citizen, at one of them looked exhausted and was exhausted and overdue for a break. How about letting cashiers sit down which seems to be the norm in Europe and thus reduce physical stress, treating senior citizen employees who are now forced to work because of our inhumane capitalistic system with dignity? I gave three stars because of the merchandise and sale items, but zero stars to a corporation that treats its employees like skivvies in a Victorian sweatshop. SHAME!

The name says Fresh. It's a lie. Here is a typical example. Raspberries purchased less than two days ago and placed in the crisper drawer are already turning. YUCK!! The quality of this place has nose-dived. I've given them business for years. Last time it was flavorless baked goods. Time to try Tony's Market or ALDIs.

Never a cart or a basket when you come in and barely one attended check out cashier after 5pm. Use your staff to man the attended check out registers, I don't work there so i shouldn't have to check myself out every time! you have customers checking out 25+ items on self check! that's insane!. Foster and Sheridan store has to be the worst grocery store i've ever been to. I'm spamming this review as far as I possibly can.

The attached photo was taken from my clipped coupons. The coupon states "can use again". It's only good multiple times in THE SAME TRANSACTION. So, this is very misleading, or false advertising. This is exactly how this store operates in Chicago.

Ok grocery store with some good deals, but kind of a stale choice at the ready made pizza/sandwiches/soup bars. I've seen some customers do some gross things at the salad bar, not Marianos' fault, but still I never go for the hot food bar because of it. They're take away roasted chicken is pretty good, but their fried chicken is only ok. If I want that, I'll walk a little further to Jewel. Lately, they've had some stocking issues. I don't know if we're still having supply chain issues or whatnot, but a couple times I couldn't get my favorite brand of potato chips and they didn't even have plain Cheetos....kind of a common product. What REALLY gets me is that one time they didn't have milk. I mean, if there is one product a grocery store needs to have, it's milk. But that was two months ago and I haven't had a problem getting milk there since. Could have been a one-off.

A huge grocery store, with everything on one level (unlike some other locations that are split between multiple floors). Often well stocked and there's always a staff member available if I need assistance. Well-organized, with attention to detail, especially in the produce and bakery departments. A clean, reliable, and convenient location.

The people that work here specifically one latina young girl that rang up my groceries has an extreme attitude. My paper bag broke before I got to my car because they packed all the heavy groceries into literally one bag. I don't know what genius thought it would be a good idea to pack heavy groceries in one bag. Lol common sense and kindness goes a long way; unfortunately, this location sucks.

I have a somewhat different take than the people who say it went downhill since Kroger bought it. I think Mariano's was at the bottom of the hill long before that. The first week it was open, it was pretty good. Not as good as Dominick's but good. But I have always been consistently blown away by how incapable and unmotivated the employees are. This was from the very beginning.I will say that since the Kroger's takeover, the employee behavior pattern has shifted from incompetent to incompetent and also hostile.I hadn't been there in a while, but yesterday we stopped in to pick up a few things. It was going mostly okay until an employee rammed my cart out of the way on her way through the front of the store. She nearly hit a child and a disabled woman on a scooter too. I promise you, she did not care at all. There were no apologies, no awkward looks, just a dead-eyed march to whatever miserable task she was headed for. Then there was the cheese guy a few months ago who turned up his nose at a question about where a normal wedge of not-thirty-dollar parmesan could be found. "We don't sell low quality cheese here," he sniffed. (Note to snooty cheese flunky: We found what we were looking for in a few minutes. Also your fancy-pants cheese section is just expensive packaging and far lower quality than one could get at a good deli.)And then there's the Mariano's deli. Good God, the deli. Just park yourself there for a minute and watch the food safety violations rack up. Cross-contamination is like a sport with these people. I haven't purchased anything from their deli in a few years, after seeing one of the employees leave the bathroom without washing her hands. No staph infections for me, thanks. On a related note: Do not get anything from that festering hot bar! Are you insane?! Once we pointed out that the rotisserie chickens had no times marked on them. (A health code violation because they're supposed to be removed after a few hours.) The manager shrugged. The bakery is the saddest part for me. It used to be wonderful. The doughnuts are still pretty good and a great price. But the range and quality of the product is far below what it used to be.The olive bread is still pretty great if you can find it. We couldn't yesterday.

The last two sushi products I bought from this Mariano’s had much better, quality rice than previous purchases. Noticeably different!
