I live in Evanston where there are two other Jewel stores but go out of my way to go to this one because I like the layout of the store. If you need to use the restroom, you have to go all the way to the customer service desk in the front. The associates won't help you, only direct you to customer service where you are lucky if anyone notices you standing there, or you could wind up wetting yourself while standing in line for the one person running the desk. But yesterday, I asked the lady working behind the counter for change for a 20. She said she had no change and wasn't allowed to give any. I explained, as I was holding a receipt for $100 worth of groceries, that I needed it for the lottery machine and she opened her drawer and still insisted she had no change, despite there being stacks of 10's, 5's and 1's. I said to her all I needed were a couple of 10's or four 5's, which she then gave me. Apparently she thought I wanted it in nickels and dimes or something but, nonetheless, I guess my inspecificity was to blame, not her inability to work the desk. Another time, I checked out at approximately 8:50 p.m. and upon getting into my car I realized I was overcharged $16 for an item. I went back to the cashier and she informed me that she was unable to correct the mistake and that I had to go to customer service, which was now closed because it was 9:02 p.m. Had to go back the next day. Yet another time, I dropped my debit card at the self checkout machine and it fell between the crack of the scale. The lady running the area offered me no assistance other than to tell me to call my bank. When I arrived home, I called the manager who easily retrieved it but, again, I had to go back. I must be a glutton for punishment because I keep going back, hoping to see any sign of improvement in the service even though, time and time again, I order several items from the deli which are always disappointing because of less-than-mediocre flavor. All of these mishaps have occurred at this store within the past three months and I'm sad to say I think they've broken my last gay nerve - I'm going to have to find someplace else to shop.
ADDITIONAL COMMENT/VISIT: Stopped today and halfway through the store I needed to use the restroom. Went to customer service counter where I was second in line before five other customers lined up behind me causing me to wait for the lady behind the counter to handle them all first. It was of no consequence, though, since I went outside and relieved myself on the side of the building like a homeless person. So glad your bathrooms are still clean, though.

Its your run of the mill Jewel-Osco. Its got a good variety of items and its always stocked up. Ok cleanliness for how bad the parkinglot is. Only things that knocks it from a 4 star to a 3 is that the Cashiers just kindve stare at you and never speak and everyone who does talk, acts like youre existence in the way. Very much lacking in the respect catagory. The people that dont speak... lets just say if I was blind, Id think that everyone called out sick

Absolutely the worst Jewel in the city. 0/10. Would never recommend.
Set up is terrible, consistently out of everything you need, useless staff that don’t know where anything is located.

The middle aged Asian woman who works at the pharmacy is so incredibly rude. Usually she’s just very curt and short but I wouldn’t say rude. Today her attitude was ridiculous. I’m not sure what her problem is but her behavior is absurd, she was being short and passive aggressive with me while I’m trying to ask her questions and figure out what’s wrong with my prescription that I’ve been trying to get fill for a week. She acts like she’s the one who’s being inconvenienced by doing her job and not the person that’s going without medication they need.

This location is perpetually understaffed with long wait times for checkout, even in the express lane. The quality of their products has also gone way down compared to the Dominic's that used to be here.

Updated to 1 star.
AVOID.
Resembles a warzone. Often cannot find a cart. Generally disgruntled employees. Gigantic, but often cannot find what you're looking for and and the aforementioned disgruntled employees are hard to find. Homeless folks begging for change in the aisles. A poor showing for a Midwestern business.

Customer service here is absolutely non-existent. I have worked several years in grocery. It's hard work and you're often flooded and doing multiple roles at once, especially if you're a customer service rep. I get it, trust me. But today i was flabbergasted by the way they treated me. First, I was in lane 3 and put about half my stuff up on the conveyer belt. The cashier then said, "you want to go to 4?" It want a question, her tone basically said I had to take all my stuff off the belt and move. Annoying, but I did it. Got over to 4 and had a long wait, so I got all my things up on the belt. When it was my turn to check our, the cash register froze. Not anyone's fault, but the customer service head or supervisor literally told me to now move to a new line! I said, "I just moved and now I have to move again?" The man I spoke to was extremely rude and snapped at me saying "if the register isn't working,we can't do anything about that." The tone was so rude, and there was no help to move my things, no apologies for the hassle, and everyone working the front end was rude. Priorities there were clearly not on the customers. Like I said I understand, but this was not acceptable behavior. I ended up walking out without checking out. The supervisor sarcastically snapped "have a good day!" as I left in tears.
This store lacks humanity. If I acted this way whe, I would have been disciplined.
You all have to do better. I imagine your shop backs were fun and there were damaged items from my order that your store has to make up now. I will not be returning. Step up your game!!!

The manager, who is of Middle Eastern decent, always seems to have a bad attitude for no reason. He snapped at me before i could even get a word out about what i wanted, and this was the second time this had happened. but other than that, the service is pretty good from everybody else.

Woman working the customer service desk would not let me (a man) change my 2 year old daughter in the woman’s restroom. There was nobody else using the womans restroom. There were multiple men in the men’s bathroom, I have a 2 year old sitting in her own feces, and the customer service lady insisted I take my daughter into the men’s room. Disgusting and shameful.

As an ex Jewel employee, this Jewel by far has the worst Chef's Kitchen/Deli department. I visited this location +10 times and they are always either have no grilled chicken, missing items the potatoe wedges for the 2 piece meal, or the employees are beyond rude. Thankfully, the employees at the Jewel in Edgewater run their Chef's Kitchen much better. I'll start going there instead, I guess.
