My experience was just okay. Perhaps it's because of the time of year, but it was so crowded and all of the special exhibits were sold out. I wish they would have limited the people they allowed in because it was really hard to interact with any of the exhibits that were included in the ticket. I felt like I was dodging people the whole time I was there and pushing my way through crowds. I think there are a lot of great things for kids there though.

Visited 12/29/23 on a Friday after lunch and it was quite busy!Number 1 thing I learned is EVEN IF ONLINE TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU CANT GO! tickets online sell out so fast bc they close out the online form much earlier than when the museum reaches capacity in order to account for visitors that want to buy in person. So once you arrive and even IF THE SIGNS SAY THAT TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT YOU SHOULD STILL WAIT IN LINE TO BUY ONE IN PERSON! We looked the night before and saw that all the times for tickets were open so we didn't end up buying them since we thought there would be plenty to buy in person. A couple in front of us left the line to go home. But when we went to the front, we got tickets easy peasy. A huge relief tbh. Honestly this place is comparable to the Health Science Museum in Houston but every interactive exhibit was on a much bigger scale. Lowkey maybe you won't learn too much if you have acquired your high school diploma and I could tell my younger self would've vibed hard here. My older self thought about my aching lower back more. Nevertheless I enjoyed my stay and could appreciate it for what it was!THERE'S A STAN DONUTS! In case you were wanting to try chicagos donuts this saves you a trip. Get some donuts before museum closing time because they get sold out by then.

She asked me if I could write her an excuse so she could skip gym and somehow it ended with her missing all day and us at the MSI instead I've loved the MSI my entire life. When my parents would buy me giant lollipops in the gift shop and I'd lick it all the way home with the windows down and my blowing hair wrapped around the sticky lollipop. Visiting the Pompeii exhibit at MSI instead of going to gym seemed like a good idea. After having been to Pompeii a few times it was both nice and a bit of a letdown. The nice parts were that I saw many types of objects up-close I've never seen while visiting Pompeii, which is mostly piles of rocks and phallic symbols. Lol The exhibit contained preserved pottery, armor, housewares etc.. So much more than the rocks at Pompeii. The negatives are just that there isn't a lot to the exhibit and for the cost of both the entrance fee and the exhibit itself, it was a bit lackluster. It was still better than junior high gym class though.

Last week, I spent a full day at this museum including eating lunch in its food hall. The Museum of Science and Industry is just that big! It's located several miles from downtown where most of the other big Chicago museums are. It is easily accessible by city bus and train along with having a lot of paid parking space for your car. This museum has 4 levels with many interesting exhibits for adults and kids along with many interactive experiments that you can participate in. Of the standard exhibits, my favorites were The Blue Paradox (about plastic in the oceans, lakes and rivers), Ships Gallery (many scale models of famous ships), Science Storms (everything about weather including a real tornado), The Coal Mine Tour (a long standing "below ground" explanation on how coal is mined, The Transportation Gallery (planes, trains and automobiles) and the Mirror Maze (I made it through!)My Chicago Go City pass provided for two extra attractions here; watching Passport to the Universe in the Domed Theater (NASA themed about space) and the U505 German submarine. This sub was for 50 years located as an exhibit on Lake Michigan in the water. Several years ago it was brought inside the museum. The outside part of the sub along with all of the storyboards about submarine warfare in WWII along with the German crew and the Americans who captured it at sea are displayed is included in your general admission. You pay for a docent led tour of the inside of U505 and our guide was excellent. Having been on many WWII American subs, I can tell you that the Germans were much more cramped with space on board. For example there was the galley (kitchen) but no officers or crew dining rooms. You got your meal and took it back to your bunk to eat and remember the crew all shared their bunks alternating their use (hot bunking). This is a fun and interesting museum to attend. It is visited by MANY local schoolchildren during the school year so expect ALOT of noise and running around if you come on a school weekday. It is only for that reason that I don't give this museum 5 stars.

I had a good time here with friends during one of the free days. The first exhibit we went to, and my favorite one, was The Blue Paradox. It is an immersive experience taking you below the ocean's surface to explore the impact plastic pollution has on the planet. It is very jarring and informative, but also important. The rest of the exhibits were good too, but this one stood out the most. I'd be interested to see what they have to offer in the future.

I had a great experience with my girlfriend here. There is so much to explore of different areas of science and industry from genetics to aviation. It is VERY crowded through which is my only con. Lots of families bringing their children here (I was one of those kids back in the day so I can't complain). There's much more to the museum than my photos btw, I just posted a few from a few of the sections.

Wonderful museum with so much to do. Got to see the limited time Pompei exhibit which was so interesting. So many interactive exhibits and cool things for all ages. You can even bring your own lunch and water in, which I would recommend to save some money. Some of the extra items have additional cost including the Pompei exhibit and other special exhibits. So it can get pricey. The dome movie was only 30 minutes, although it was a pretty incredible movie it was a little expensive for what it is. Despite the cost, overall well worth it.

Museum of Science and Industry...or Museum of Nerds and Geeks?Railroads, airplanes, cars, bicycles, genetics, cloning, global warming, robots, mice, chicks, ocean pollution, endangered spaces, energy, boats, farming, history, and on and on...this is not for everyone, but it was for nerd like me! The coolest thing was the World War 2 German U Boat! The massive submarine was still largely intact and well restored. Seeing it from the outside is awesome, but to go inside you must take a guided tour which was $18, and so worth it for history geeks like me, especially since we had only 3 people in our tour! $26 for adult entry. Unfortunately this museum closes rather early at 4pm, even on a Saturday...should be at least 5pm?

They have some neat things here. Prices are a bit high, which is to be expected.

I recently visited the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, and while there were certainly some positives to the experience, there were also some notable drawbacks. Let's start with the positives.First and foremost, the museum's architecture is simply stunning. Both from the outside and inside, it's a marvel to behold. The grandeur of the building itself is a testament to the institution's historical significance and its commitment to showcasing science and innovation. The sheer size and scale of the museum are awe-inspiring.Inside, the museum boasts a multitude of smaller exhibits and rooms, many of which are tailored for children. These areas are colorful and engaging, making them perfect for families with young kids. The interactive exhibits in these spaces are designed to spark curiosity and foster a love for science, which is commendable. However, there are several drawbacks to the museum experience. One of the major issues is the depth of information provided. While the smaller exhibits are great for kids, they tend to offer only surface-level information on their respective topics. For those seeking a more in-depth exploration of scientific concepts, this can be disappointing. It feels as though the museum prioritizes breadth over depth.Navigating the museum can also be a challenge. Finding the entrance is not as straightforward as one would hope, and once inside, there's a noticeable reliance on stairs. Elevators are scarce and hard to locate, which can be problematic for visitors with mobility issues or families with strollers. In summary, the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is a mixed bag. Its beautiful building and child-friendly exhibits make it an appealing destination for families with young children. However, the limited depth of information and accessibility issues may leave more discerning visitors wanting more from their experience. If you're looking for a fun day out with kids, it's worth a visit, but for those seeking a deeper dive into scientific topics, you may want to explore other options in the area.

My family and I were visiting Chicago and decided to come here. First of all, we tried Stan's Donuts here for the first time and the worker who helped us was great and I was a fan of the Boston cream donut! The museum itself was nice as well and there were a lot of things you could interact with. I found that there were a handful of spots that weren't opened yet or were temporarily closed, but I'm not sure if thats typical or if we just went during their renovation time. Some exhibits get really real and illustrate how climate change has affected the ice glaciers and how plastic has affected the oceans which was really eye opening. We also went to the dome theater to watch a 20 minute movie on volcanoes which I found immersive. There were other exhibits you could explore like the one on Pompeii and the tour on the U-505 submarine but you'll have to pay extra for those.Overall this is a nice place to go to if you're visiting Chicago or if you just want something to do for the day :)
