Stayed for a busy work event weekend and I can’t speak highly enough of the service received! Ramon was exceptional!!!! Because of our tight schedule we ended up eating at the hotel restaurant 2/3 nights but honestly, everything we had was delicious. We received recommendations from the wonderful staff members at the front desk and they were spot on. Ramon, thank you again for such wonderful hospitality!
Rooms: Spacious, clean, modern
Nearby activities: Attached to Nordstrom and right in the heart of downtown
Walkability: All the exits take you to hot spots- very easy to access main attractions
Food and drinks: Everything is within walking distance or a short uber ride.
Noteworthy details: Parking garage is right across with easy access. Same with accessing shopping or main attractions of Michigan Ave. if you’re in town for work in the area or new and want something safe and simple, this is a great place to stay.

The Gwen is one of my favorite hotels in Chicago! The service and staff are exceptional! I’ve stayed there a few times both for personal and work. Our experience was great! I’d like to thank Chad and Krystal for helping us have a successful meeting. Also, Teresa and Stella from Banquets they were sweet, professional, attentive and helpful! Hotel is lucky to have them all. Highly recommend this hotel!

For a first timer in Chicago, this couldn’t be a better location! The bed might be the best I’ve ever slept in and I love the homey feel even though it’s in the heart of everything. Highly recommend!

We have stayed at many Marriott properties, and this one was rather disappointing.
We arrived around midnight and were only in town for the night. We asked the concierge (who was also checking guests in) about food options; she said there was nothing open nearby and the hotel kitchen was closed, but we could use UberEats -- but she no suggestions for places that might be good to order from. We opted to use our phones and found a few places nearby that were, in fact open.
After grabbing some pizza, we went back to the hotel and asked about any vending machines or anywhere we could just buy a few sodas. We were told that there were no vending machines on the property and that the best she could offer us complimentary (warm) bottled water.
While everyone on staff was friendly, I cannot say they were knowledgeable or helpful.
Come morning, we learned that the neighboring Marriott property (literally across the street) had a small market where we could have purchased both snacks and sodas, which would have been so much easier on us after a very long day of travel.
However, the most surprising -- and disappointing -- part of our stay was learning that there was no coffee maker in our room. I cannot recall a single hotel we have stayed in where that has been the case. Because we were jetlagged, we woke far too late to partake in the "complimentary coffee in the lobby" in the morning, but really -- who wants to go down to the lobby just for coffee anyway? This property purports to be a Luxury Collection Hotel, but failed on this very basic amenity.
The fact there was only one robe in the room when the property knew there were two of us checking in was just annoying.
Overall, when we stay at a property that claims to be of a luxury caliber, we expect at LEAST basic amenities and for the concierge to be somewhat knowledgeable and helpful. This unfortunately was just not the case and we are unlikely to return to this property or recommend it.

We found it to be very average. The rooms are bare bones, no coffee machines or anything. TVs weren’t working, the fitness center was small and lacked equipment that other Marriotts always have, there was no pool or hot tub or sauna, and the hotel isn’t quite as pretty as other Marriotts in the area. Service was great though.
Rooms: Old and lacking features you’d see at other hotels

Second best place we have ever stayed. The Intercontinental in Budapest was first. The staff from bar to room service went above and beyond for our daughter Gwen. Which is why we stayed here. The food was very good dinner and breakfast.
Nearby activities: Andy Jazz Club, breakfast Goddess and the Baker
Safety: I felt very safe, lot of people around at any given time
Walkability: Quick walk to some great places

Decided to stay for at the Gwen due to having an event close by. The front desk was not friendly at all. When I asked to have a new key made since my fiancé checked in before me, it felt like I was a bother. Once I entered the room the first thing I loved was the bathroom afterward the room was horrible. No view and the windows had black tape all around (Room 1105) and the TV took a while to turn on. The only good impression that left the hotel for me was the Room Service (I forgot his name, it started with an E) was beyond kind and thoughtful and the bellman Jodi or Jordy. Asked me if I needed anything before I departed and asked how my stay was. It’s always the small interactions that matter and they both made it right at the end of my stay.

Wonderful hotel! Comfy beds. Great staff. Bartenders in the lobby are so helpful and make such great cocktails! We stay here often for staycations, even though we live in Chicago. Highly recommend!
Rooms: Super comfy beds!

My wife and I stayed here for our 16th year anniversary. The hotel was exquisite and the location was perfect for walking around to see all the sites we wanted to see. We would definitely visit Chicago again and stay at the gwen!
The room was nice and clean and comfortable. Everything about the stay was very nice.
Walkability: Very good location for walkability

The hotel is in an awesome location near some good restaurants and lots of shopping on Michigan Avenue. The rooms are newly renovated and really nice. More of a vacation, relaxing hotel than a business travel hotel but very great

WiFi was unstable. Bathroom sink had a crack running the length, but it didn't leak.
