I liked it, it's a great place, in addition to being very central
Rooms: Clean and plastic, comfortable rooms
Nearby activities: You have the metro nearby, bike stations and good restaurants.
Safety: Everything was very calm, we had no details.
Walkability: Everything is within walking distance, the main or attractive stores to buy are close by
Food & drinks: The place has a bar

For a tiny little boutique hotel in downtown, I loved my stay here but I hated my service experience with them towards the end so much, I decided to give them a very low overall rating.
I stayed here while I was attending a business conference and even though I checked out at 8 am before heading to the conference, I had to come back after my conference ended to pick up my luggage from the lobby before I headed to the airport while my cab waited for me outside during rush hour. I got to the lobby desks and saw there were 3 people waiting to check in on one of the desks, the second desk was empty with no one to service it and which was closer to the luggage room so I went straight there while my cab waited outside. The woman on the busier side of the desk yelled ‘adrian’ as she saw me with a luggage ticket. I see Adrian come out of the luggage room sluggishly, take my ticket and ask me if I cut all the other people in the line that were waiting. For a second I thought he was joking because the woman literally yelled his name to come help me get my luggage as soon as I got there and not earlier when she already had 3 people wait for her.
Turns out he wasn’t JOKING! He gave me back my ticket and told me I was rude for cutting. I told him well I’m not checking in and just grabbing my bag and heading back to my cab to go to the airport. He called me rude again in front of everyone. I pushed back and so he reluctantly went in got my bags. I apologized to everyone in the line and they said it was absolutely fine! I took my luggage and was on my way out when I saw Adrian scoffing at me in front of the guy checking in next…. I went back in told him no one else cared and he said ‘ITS STILL RUDE’.
Well Adrian, next time why don’t you just be at the desk already doing your job so people don’t have to wait this long to check in and so your peer needs to yell your name to get help. Do better ant your job Adrian because you were being extremely RUDE to your customers by not checking them in on time but also by creating a scene.

Great location, okay staff, okay room. Fair for it's price $50-$70

A bed that reeked of urine, without so much as an apology. Followed by a new room that had a toilet running very loudly all night. Issues happen, I get it, but the lack of an appropriate response to “I climbed into bed without realizing it reeked of urine” is dumbfounding. Moreover, I reached out to the hotel via their website and received no response. The cool bar doesn’t make up for the lack of hospitality. After a couple nice stays there in years past, I can’t in my right mind stay there again or recommend anyone else does so. My stay was 9/4 - 9/5, Room 1105.

We stayed here for 1 night when we extended our Chicago trip and unfortunately I feel like I was banboozled by pictures. If you are used to staying at luxury hotels this is NOT for you. It was more like a hostel or dorm. The rooms were so dark, dusty, and overall uncomfortable. The sheets and pillows were awful. The elevators were very old & slow, it smelled bad in the building but the staff was really friendly. Overall it was cheap so I guess we get what we pay for, but for about $50 more you can find much nicer rooms in the Chicago area.

What a delightful place. Next time to Chicago we will certainly stay here. Small hotel with personal very friendly service. Rooms are small but really cool. Lounge is very different from your big hotel, but very comfortable with a delightful character. The location is also great. Lot's of excellent eateries close by. If you want someplace more cozy and laid back than a Hilton, this is the place to come. We loved it.
Walkability: 5 minute walk to Rush Street.
Food & drinks: Great cocktails. Amazingly good breakfast.

This place is great if you don't feel like shelling out big bucks on a hotel room. The staff was super friendly and very accommodating. I never stayed in a hostel before, and I was a bit nervous about having to share a room. I am glad I chose Freehand. I got to meet some really cool people in the room. My roommates were very courteous, and I got a great night's sleep. The bathroom was clean with great hot water. The location is very good also. There are plenty of eating and shopping options In walking distance.

So far so good. Just got here last night. Manny the manager is an awesome guy. I would hire Manny to run my establishment. Including Adrian.

I stayed in a quad shared room for several days earlier this month.
What you get is a bed with clean sheets and a privacy curtain, and a locker - in a room with AC and a clean bathroom. In a great location in downtown Chicago at a very low price. Decent bar and cafe, some gym facilities. Felt safe.

The room I was given had such a bad mold problem I had to see a doctor.
Dust in every corner, stains on every surface, paint peeling everywhere. The bathroom siding door was broken off its hinge and couldn’t be closed. Bedside lamp was broken.
HVAC unit was absolutely full of dust
At the end of the day I paid like $140 for this.
Safety: I have a bad mold allergy and had to see a doctor the next day after staying here because of how bad of a reaction I had having. I had to leave work.

I stayed in a room with a queen bed. The room was very small and it was only possible to open the suitcase on the bed. The bathroom does not have any exhaust fan system, which in the Chicago summer makes the room very hot and stuffy. The location is great, close to subway stations, bus stops, supermarkets and within walking distance of the Loop

Matt was such a delight to speak with when we first arrived. Super friendly, he told us all about Chicago, fun things to do here, and even gave me and my partner 2 x Cocktail vouchers for the bar.
The bar was so nice, bigger than it looks in photos
The bedroom was a little small, but just enough for what we need. Side note - i loved the tiling in the bathroom, so nice and it looked so clean as well.
If we come back to Chicago, will definitely hit up Freehand again, and go through them directly :)
It was also CLOSE to everything so it was easy to walk around, catch the L or bus

The front desk could be more helpful and reply politely to reasonable questions
