Roman Sokolov and his brother are special gifts to the Chicago area if you're in possession of medium to hi-end amplifiers and equipment. I've gone to them for years with an array of issues. Starting with a repair on the volume pot on my college 1980 Aiwa integrated amp that I was sure was destine for the recycle bin. I've got a higher end Tandberg power, preamp and FM tuner set that he keeps like new for me. Be ready to see more piled up old electronics than you've ever seen in one place. But Roman is organized and first rate. You won't find people doing their work anymore.

Electronic Engineers ("EE") diagnosed & repaired a subtle (& recently not so subtle) problem on my Audio Research vacuum tube preamp which not even the factory could figure out in a prior service. The cost was reasonable and the work excellent.Furthermore, I found Roman to be very amicable and pleasant.Looking around the place is fun. EE had one of the McIntosh tube amp models which was used in the Grateful Dead's famous "wall of sound" rig in the shop when I was there. EE works on a lot of delicate, high end vintage and modern gear to great results. The fully operational dot matrix receipt printers, complete with feeder paper, are fun to watch & hear operate.Highly recommended.

Roman’s a great guy who knows his stuff. Turnaround time was fairly quick (only two weeks) which I was very surprised given how many pieces he had in the shop. Had a great convo with him and will go to him for any high end vintage repairs.

My friends and I have been taking our Macintosh equipment to Roman for many, many years! His work is impeccable. We have all been 100% satisfied. His knowledge of electronics far exceeds that of his "critics" in this forum, most of whom still don't know which hand to wipe their own backsides with. They complain about "rudeness," yet these are the same people who spend a week in some overpriced resort in Mexico and do nothing but complain to the cabana boy about the size of the umbrella in their margaritas.Roman is focused on THE WORK. It's not Social Hour, although conversations with Roman on topics other than electronics can be riveting affairs. Not that any of the fainting sissies in this forum, who complain so childishly, could ever appreciate the depth and breadth of Roman's knowledge of history, the arts, culture, and politics. To the Philistines I say, take your junk to a shoe maker for repairs, and leave Roman to the rest of us who can recognize, respect, and appreciate his true genius.

Took in two a/d/s cassette decks (C3 & C2/3) for repair and he did just that. Fixed and ready to relive the ‘80s again.

My Cambridge azur 840C CD player drawer stopped working. I checked with the manufacturer and they could not help me with the repair because it was out of warranty. I checked with a couple stereo shops around Chicago but even though they sell Cambridge products they do not service them, however Decibel Audio where I originally purchased the unit new from referred Electronic Engineers Inc on W. Belmont. The owner Roman took the unit in which they charged a $30 inspection fee and gave me a pick up ticket. After a few days he called me to let me know what the issues were and the cost of the repair. The cost was very reasonable and the unit was repaired within a week of dropping it off. Roman showed me the defective parts that he removed. The player works like new . I highly recommend this shop for hifi equipment repairs.

Unfortunately, Roman decided that his "diagnostic" fee wasn't enough when he realized there was nothing wrong with my equipment, so he decided to charge me 3x as much upon pick up. Beware.

This was a good find for me. After attempts at trying others, And not being satisfied. I happened upon Ramon at Electronic Engineers. I like Vintage Stereo Products and need a place for my items when problems arise. I'm waiting for recapping of my 2nd Pioneer Amp. Other shops made excuses of a recap job, Not having the time. Turn around was less than 2 weeks on a Pioneer 9500 ll. Sounds excellent. I'm extremely happy. I'm giving my oldest friend the Pioneer 8500 when service is completed. Of course, I have to give it a listen, before saying goodbye. Having other vintage Pioneer items. It's nice to know a place to go when a problem comes up.Wow..... Picked up the second Pioneer amp. The SA 8500. The better it sounds with each time I turn it on. I should be kicking myself in giving my buddy this amp. But I have the SA 9500 'll. It'll make things easier tho, I'll get a chance to see it when at his house. Trust me the smile I'll see when he does all the pull ins and flips the On switch. ROMAN THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE. OH, SORRY. MAKE THAT 2 JOBS, WELL DONE. again Thank you.

This guy was completely rude over the phone, but after seeing the reviews on google, I decided to send my product over because I thought it was enough good reviews for me. Don’t make the same mistake I did. He charged us an arm and a leg to fix our product and also took around five months to even get it back to us. After finally getting it back and plugging it in to try it out, he didn’t even fix the damn product!! Don’t waste your time or money on this guy.
