I've been going to Duke for a few years and most recently went to them to prepare for a move abroad. Dr. Coulombe was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and responsive with all of my concerns when it came to traveling with my cat. Friendly staff, highly recommend!

Duke has been a little hit and miss with my rabbit over the years but Dr Mark Sadler really helped me out during my last visit.
I have an ancient (13yr old) rabbit that I had brought in a few weeks prior and after waiting a long time because of several emergencies, they just took him to the back and kept asking about his ‘limping’ when I explained several times that I wanted to discuss his age and mobility and quality of life. Felt really rushed and unheard but walked away with some arthritis meds that helped a bit. I chalked it up to all the emergencies that had come in and tried again later.
So when I went back and specified that I wanted a ‘quality of life consult’ I finally got what I needed. Dr Sadler took his time, discussed what signs to look for and really helped me understand how my old bun was doing. He gave me some perspective and assurance to help me know when the the time had come to make a hard decision, but we weren’t there yet.
Can’t thank him enough for the patience, time and understanding and will definitely be specifying appointments with him moving forward.

Expensive (as all vets are) but feel the team is very caring and open, honest and transparent about pricing and recommended courses of action

Can't thank the staff and vet enough here! Our cat needed emergency surgery and everyone was kind and helpful with helping our cat get the care he needed. Everything was explained thoroughly and we received consistent updates. The service was above and beyond. I will gladly recommend this place to friends and family.

My family has been going to Dr. Duke for over 20 years. Duke and her staff are professional, kind, and accommodating. They really help us out both on the day to day with routine visits and in pinches - whether it’s USDA travel accreditation or emergency bee stings. Thank you Dr. Duke and staff!

My precious cat Daisy had surgery at Duke animal hospital in May of 2024. I can't say enough wonderful things about this hospital, the faculty and the staff. Everyone was so compassionate and they were so sweet to Daisy! She had a mast cell tumor. After the surgery she would not eat for 4 days. So I took her back to the hospital everyday and they gave her fluids, made her comfortable and treated her like a queen. Finally, this wonderful staff enabled her to eat on her own!! I would not hesitate to take her back for any surgery that she may need in the future. Or for any reason at all! Thank you so much everyone at Duke animal hospital for taking such good care of my Daisy!
You are all angels!!!!

I cannot say enough good things about this practice. I take my dog here and they are unbelievably accommodating. They take the time to listen, everyone I have encountered there genuinely cares about pets and their humans...EVERYONE from the front desk, to assistants, vets, owner, to the cleaning crew is so nice and sincere. Thank you all for taking such good care of my baby ; )

Recently moved back to Chicago and chose Duke for our two Frenchies, Betty and Gracie because they are less than a block from our home. What a mistake! First off, staff is super friendly. First issue. Dr. A Prescribed a medication for Betty's IVDD flare up which resulted in Betty being hospitalized for a week at MedVet for liver and kidney failure. Fortunately I stopped giving med, carprofen after 2 days of vomiting. Dr. A was aware she was ill and never told us to stop administering. So, after almost $15,000 bill, our baby began to improve. I had a conversation with Dr A whereby she apologized which was appreciated so we decided to bring Betty back to her for follow up blood work. No discount and it took a week for results which we were never told. We were told they are short staffed. Now today, we bring the girls in for their monthly cytopoint shots which for several years have been administered to them at a cost of $75 -$93.00 each depending on their weight. Lo and behold, I pay and receive an emailed receipt. It cost us $308 for both girls and their weight is the same it's been for years. Turns out the practice charges $38 tech visit for each of our girls and much higher price for the shot itself than we've ever paid. So I call VCA North the practice we are moving to see what their charge is. Come to find out it's in the range we've always paid $92 each, more than $100 total difference. Bottom line is, my wife and I care for our girls as we did our children. No expense spared if necessary for their comfort and happiness. However, we don't appreciate being taken advantage of which we feel we have. This on top of almost losing Betty and we will NOT return to recommend Duke Animal Hospital! We don't trust them. We also feel that their pricing is way out of line. Covid occurred buts it's behind us and it's businesses like this that take advantage and overcharge!!!

These guys have helped me cats twice now in some tough situations. They're transparent about pricing and have given me multiple options to help fit my budget better. They're always really sweet and gentle with the cats. Could not recommend more!

My dog died because of this inexperienced vet. I do not recommend this veterinarian, I took my dog because he had vomiting and diarrhea with blood and was breathing very quickly when we arrived, we waited a long time for them to call us and when we entered they only took him to take some X-rays where they came back and said he couldn't look nothing bad, they gave him an injection so he wouldn't vomit and that was it. They were very negligent with my pet's discomfort.
The only thing they care about is getting money from people for the first thing they say they need x-rays and from there trying to get more money for doing nothing.
Apparently my dog had parvovirus, which any licensed and educated veterinarian would know just by looking at the dog's condition and the symptoms he had.
They probably knew it and didn't say anything to try to get more money for unnecessary studies that would no longer save my baby's life.

(they just want your money, they won't help you with your pets) I am baffled by the care this vet gave my dog. I made the bad decision to take him there because I trusted him and it was very close to my house. I took my baby there in critical condition with vomiting and bloody diarrhea. The care was so bad that they didn't even touch him to check his vital signs. They were only interested in getting money from my pocket and nothing else. The saddest thing of all is that my dog died two days after they treated him. They were only interested in getting money is all. His recovery could have been simple if they had worried about the disease and not the money. This place is a pet slaughterhouse.

Duke is absolutely incredible, and I would recommend them to all my friends.
The staff is incredibly welcoming and always treat my pup like a princess. The doctors are also very knowledgeable and informative, and have always been transparent when it comes to prices.
They have been very accomodating to my excitement reactive pup, and will often politely ask other clients to give her space to come through, or inform me when the lobby is clear of pups.
In addition to all this, they are always incredibly accomodating with scheduling appointments, and make a genuine effort to fit me in when necessary.
Only 10/10 experiences for me at Duke!

I wish i could give more stars, I have to say, these guys took very good care of me, very professional, went right to the source of the problem, took care of my kitten. If you need a great animal hospital, these are the people you want to take your pets too. I cannot express how great I feel on how they took care of my sick kitty. What great great people. Thank you so much on how you worked through this tough process.
