(See below for update)This a review for the rental center. I'd give the store 5 stars but I just had a poor experience with a rental. Be careful, ask questions, and look for overcharges.We had a leak in our basement and needed a dehumidifier. The machine worked well but was kind of dirty. I rented for the day but wound up needing it for four days to remove all of the moisture in the basement. I had no experience with water removal so what did I know?When I brought it back I asked for the weekly rental rate but was told that it wasn't possible to give me that rate because it was "already in the system". I rolled with that but since I got home and looked at my receipt I am fuming! I was charged an "optional" damage waiver of 12% but no one ever gave me the "option" to accept or refuse that rate.Not offering me the weekly rate and then charging me extra without my permission leads me to give Clark Devon Rentals a big thumbs down.Update:Clark Devon made things better by clarifying the rental rate and refunding the damage waiver charge. In the first case, I was charged the weekly rate all along but the person at the counter didn't explain that to me. In the second, Clark Devon apologized for not explaining the damage waiver surcharge to me and refunded that amount.In the end, Clark Devon is a great place. Just pay attention to what you're sigining!

While moving our child into a new apartment in Chicago, we had a need to buy a room air conditioner, and some other odds and ends to fill out apartment life after graduating from college. Everyone I interacted with in the store was extremely helpful. It was like a hardware store from 10 or 20 years ago where everybody knew where everything was and helped you and was kind. They even have a parking lot that I could park my giant truck and they were amazing. Highly recommend.

Helpful and friendly. They mixed a paint can for me that I purchased in a big box store. The other store delivered it without mixing!

Clark Devon Hardware - You should be ashamed of yourself!!! A window screen fastener at $5.99 each!? Listen, I am ALL about local businesses making money, but a 455% mark-up for your "neighbors?!" That doesn't even include what you paid for these wholesale! ?Returned, refunded, and bought online for less than half your price (including shipping)!#Unacceptable

Great local hardware store with fantastic service. Whenever I come in with something to fix or replace they always ask the questions needed to help me identify the root cause of the problem so I can walk out with the right part, screws that fit properly, etc. Sometimes they'll help me fix something on the spot! We're lucky to have this in the neighborhood.

I went in here today with my cousin and the hardware Lady was truly amazing I think her name was Chris short for Christina she was nothing but helpful very patient and caring and made sure we got the right srut bolt to replace my rear shocks. I'll definitely be back cashiers are very friendly as well.

Love that these folks carry all kinds of tools and gadgets, I even got my pepper spray here! Gotta admit, a lot of these products are slowly becoming really pricey though.

Clark Devon Hardware is my favorite of all hardware stores that I have ever visited! Got Great, Practice Advice. Fast Service (unless they are really busy). Everyone I ask (you must ask) is friendly and helpful. But they won't swoop down on you when you are thinking! My last visit was 2 days ago. The guy who helped me was so good that I told him I will ask new visitors to ask for him. He Declined. Guess he's already a superstar at Clark Devon. (His name starts with a J, I won't disclose if that's the first or last name). But if you want fast service backed by knowledge, just ASK with a smile, when you are ready for help! I took a battery powered weed whip there today, seeking help to install a new cutting line. I had disassembled it, but could not install the new line and re-attach it. 3 employees worked on it for me, and got the job done in about 10 minutes. When I asked what the charge would be, they refused to accept any payment. I thanked them and returned home, where I put the weed whip to work and it worked perfectly. I have admired and appreciated this great store for years, but my experience today was the real capper. Kudos to Clark and Devon Hardware!

Beware of David Tollen! He’s one of the contractors recommend by Clark Devon store. He’s incompetent and doesn’t do a good job. I couldn’t recommend him. His price, which is definitely high, is not commensurate with the quality of his work. I wouldn’t recommend him.

The greatest hardware store on the planet in the greatest neighborhood in Chicago. I have been shopping at CDH for more than 20 years and I have always had a good experience buying there. I don’t even live in Rogers Park any more and I still drive there for my hardware needs.

I had a pretty odd experience, and since it involved manager, it sadly reflects on the store and sours the experiences that I've had there. I bought a socket extender and the price was mismarked. Instead of honoring the price clearly posted, he argued with me over Pennies. I decided to return the item, costing me a half hour. It's sad that the management is so poorly run.In addition, the checkout lines long, which delayed things further.
