I e been a regular customer at this market for a decade. They handled the pandemic well, customer service is always positive, and the selection is great. I just had an experience, and let the manager know but she said nothing. Here's what happened: I was at checkout, and noticed a zucchini in my cart was rather damaged, so I VERY politely said " I'm sorry, I don't want this ... " and I showed the cashier the damage. What happened next was out of a Mean Girls script. Eye-rolling, sigh, judge snark spewed from the cashier. Then I said, "ok, whatever, I'll buy it." And in snarky-slow-motion she stared at me with more teenage-judgement from a grown-up person. Slowly reached for the zucchini like I had just killed her parents with a dash of boredom and yes, more snark. Ok, so I'm a middle-aged white woman. Did she put me in a "Karen" box? Answer, oh yes she did. I'm done with this store. Aldi is better and they don't care if you don't fit a certain profile, they're prices are better, and the service is stellar. I've worked in the service industry for decades but this level of behavior felt racially charged and I usually don't see that because I'm SO polite, patient, and kind when talking to people in low-paid service job because I know how hard their positions are. If you're Latino/a, I'm sure this is a great place for you ... If you look ok like a Karen, don't bother. I didn't need that heavy negative vibe in a beautiful sunny day in Chicago. Shameful on the cashier and the manager who did nothing.

Food and wine from all over the world. Good prices on most things (not all). Worth the trip for entertainment alone.

I do get some groceries every other week or so from Cermak due to being very close, but my rating is for the terrible customer service that I've encountered few times already in the past 4 months, most recent was that my peaches were scanned as beans and I didn't even have beans among my groceries, so I came back for a refund and the manager was awful, didn't speak English at all, didn't want to help and the worst after I said that I'm going to call police he asked a cashier to translate for him and telling me that is my fault that I didn't paid attention to the screen when the groceries were scanned, hahaha like I have to do the work for his employees, come on now this is ridiculous, not even a "I'm sorry for wasting your time or we are going to help you" nah, I get to be blamed..Not the first time to happen that my product was scanned wrong!I don't recommend this store no more! BE AWARE OF THE PRICE THAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO PAY!They think they slick just because the language barrier... no proper training and no well manners, disappointing.

I bought a cake and it had mold I went back to get it fix and they told me and my dad that it’s just fruit that’s bad you can still eat it. Are you kidding me? Good to eat? Ridiculous! they claim they make it everyday fresh when most of them are days old. Buyers beware of the cakes make sure it doesn’t have mold!

A co-worker of mine (past job) went to Japan and complained about how "nobody there spoke English." I laughed at first, thinking she was joking until I realized she was very serious. All I could think was, "Who in their right mind goes to a place where they know what the dominant language is and then gets MAD when somebody speaks it?" I think of this lady just about every single time I go into Cermak Fresh Market. Majority of the cashiers and stock employees don't speak English. I don't care. I knew that when I walked in the door. What I don't understand is the ATTITUDE too many of the employees (99.9% women, never the guys) get when I ask for help. I took Spanish for eight years (it's absolute trash now; you don't use it and you lose it), but I can get through most conversations on a daily basis with several other Spanish-speaking people I have either befriended or work with in some capacity. None of them get upset about the language barrier; we just work through it (broken English, broken Spanish, occasional miming). This cashier Cristina especially seems to take issue with me. I left my keys in the store one time, and she was disgusted at the idea of even handing them to me when I pointed to them at the customer service desk. And today when I asked to split an order on two credit cards, she sighed, she huffed, she scowled and asked for help from someone else, and I waved to say that was OK. Just void one item and I'd pay for it separately. She KEPT ringing up the item I voided and then finally flung it on a nearby register. I'm super tired of this lady's attitude. I can tolerate the cashiers who scream over me in Spanish to talk to the person next to them. I can shrug off the ones who stare at me blankly when I say, "Hello," "Good afternoon," "Thank you" and "No, I don't need a bag." But the hostility has to go. The fellas will try to figure out what I'm talking about. The women act like I gave them the middle finger for simply getting in their checkout lines. I love this store because it has amazingly fresh fruit. As an 18-year vegetarian, fresh fruit and vegetables are important to me. The larger grocery store chains seem to have either bland or poorly tasting fruit and vegetables. This location ALWAYS has great options. Consistently 100%. You want to know how great the fruit is? At a past visit, a cashier waved me over to an empty line and overcharged me $14 for something that wasn't in my bag. Turns out he charged me for his lunch, and I had no clue until I got all the way home and paid attention to my receipt. There were two mango bowls on there, and I had to return to the store several hours later and convince a manager I never bought them. I don't even like mangos! I have walked by and drove past this store for five straight years and ignored it, but I am trying to support more local stores, SPECIFICALLY ONES WITH GREAT PRODUCE. But I'm about to tap out and pay for delivery elsewhere soon because I'm not going to be able to deal with the consistently bad service. There is one manager (older Hispanic guy, about 5'5, dark hair, balding, seems to like wearing puffy vests) and a younger cashier (unclear on race, possibly biracial, 5'7 or 5'8, curly hair, looks like he's in his very early 20s) who are always friendly, polite and seem to speak English fluently. But if those two aren't in there, I'll end up gritting my teeth at somebody's eye rolls and unnecessary attitude. On a separate note, I never shop here for vegan or vegetarian frozen or refrigerated items because they're startlingly overpriced. But they apparently don't want to sell it either because that freezer of Gardein, Morningstar, etc., reeks! It's next to the fish and meat display. The smell will make your eyes water. I walked by it one time and had to actively not vomit. If you want to sell animal-friendly food, it cannot smell like sea water and animal intestines. Never aga
