The place is small compared to other places. Their carnitas are really good and the mendo too. Prices are reasonable, and the employees are nice. The parking lot is small, so on weekends, you'll probably won't find spots, but the wait will be worth it.

Tucked away in a little corner of blue-collar Chicago is a little Mexican grocery store named Supermercado El Gigante, which literally translates in Thee Giant Supermarket. Back in the day this place was a White Hen Pantry… way back in the day.Today is a hidden little gem that serves some of the best carnitas around. For those of you who may be asking “what are carnitas?”, its a Mexican pork dish that is cooked for and shredded. Carnitas meas little meats.I came here after telling a friend that I wanted carnitas, but had no desire to travel to Pilsen or Back of The Yards.This is where he sent me and I have to say that these are in fact the absolutely best estilo Michoacán carnitas on the North side of Chicago.They were flavourful, juicy and extremely tender. They had just the right amount pf seasoning. And the perfect mixture of meats.I also got the salsa verde and it was perfect. Full of flavour and just the right amount of kick.Service was great. Everyone was friendly.Parking lot is a bit tight, but there is plenty pf street parking.You should go try

First My mom , my 2 sisters my brother inlaw and my sister inlaw ,2cousins, plus my wife and I've got sick real bad I'm just getting better and it's been 2 months ago when I've purchased they tacos, carnitas, chicken and steak burritos we spent over $200 and we regret it my doctor said I was food poison smh please people I beg to not buy from this place

Idk why it gets 5 stars. 2 at best on a good day. Depending on who's working and if there hungover. We stopped going there because it just got terrible. Cleanliness is also not the biggest priority and frankly I'm surprised there isn't more comments of people getting sick from the food.

This place has the worst meat. I bought taco meat here and it was old and very sinewy. Worst meat I've ever purchased anywhere and for the price. I'll never shop there again.
