I lived in a property for 16 months. It was an old building and not perfect, but the maintenance responded promptly to all my requests and management was responsive and respectful.Pros - Maintenance came to help with several requests over my time there, including fixing radiators, fixing appliances, painting, etc. The building, like many in Chicago, is old, and things can go wrong, but I never had to fight or beg for maintenance to come and help out. Management also was responsive; for example, when I had to move and break my second lease, they told me about my options and helped find someone to take over the lease at no charge to me. Marti, the manager/broker, was very easy to work with.Cons - A few smaller "old building" things, like tricky gate and vestible locks. Laundry was not free, but I rarely had to wait for a machine. Back courtyard wasn't always salted when it iced over, which made my original move-in dangerous and this is where the laundry rooms are. There isn't a maintenance portal, so sometimes I wasn't sure if my email was being addressed, or they may fix something when I was out of the apartment (with my permission) without updating me and I wouldn't know the order was complete, or a request would slip through the cracks and I'd have to remind.Overall, my biggest apartment concern is that maintenance or management are unresponsive and difficult to deal with, and I never had that experience, so I'd recommend this company and would be happy to stay at another of their properties.

My experience with Acorn has been great! My property manager Marti is helpful and responsive, the maintenance team is quick to assist with any issues, and the building is well maintained. I highly recommend them.

Well what I experienced is that they do not care enough to help the people that live in the buildings. All I received was disrespect sarcasm rudeness and no help.

Avoid. Incapable of even fixing simple things. Asked for repairs to be made several times, and the smaller requests were ignored while the larger request was unsatisfactorily dealt with with patch jobs that never got to the root of the problem. In winter, gate locks were often frozen shut and sidewalks/paths not cleared in the same day making it challenging to even enter the building.

Lets say im not too happy with this company and be careful about leasing with them. Actively looking for somewhere else to live.

Acorn has reacted promptly and effectively to maintenance requests and has been easy to deal with through their maintenance email and their resident portal.

Very unprofessional my child stays in one of the buildings she got hurt due to the negligence in the apartment she’s done nothing but had issues since she moved. They’ve disrespected her, hung up in her face and the leasing manager very unprofessional. My child has barely slept in her own apartment since moved in month ago.

Just spoke to Accorn about managing my building. Very knowledgeable. Spoke to Noel. I'm hoping they can turn my property around. The current management team is not as good as I expected. Accorn should be able to get building full with good tenants. Good Luck.

They have terrible follow up. The secretary is rude. They let their properties go. The only reason I’d consider rating higher is because their maintenance team knows how to treat people respectfully. One time the gas company shut our heat off in the middle of winter by mistake because the lines were mislabeled (admitted this on the phone, but by the time we noticed it was late evening and no techs available). Olivia Hobson, instead of listening to the story, yelled at us for not paying our bills. During my time at this brand new building they let the landscape die and stopped mowing the lawns. A YEAR AGO I moved out and had someone take over my lease. Instead of a simple takeover, she canceled my lease and had them sign a new one (without turning the property). Don’t even get me started on what a nightmare that process even was. Either way she had them start paying rent then said she would refund my rent of a couple hundred dollars. I’m STILL waiting on that check. I’ve called, emailed, threatened to report to HUD/sue them. She effectively charged double rent on a single apartment, which is illegal. To this day no response except attitude from their secretary if I call. As a Chicago renter I will NEVER rent one of their properties again, and I caution any property owner against hiring them. Hands down the worst company in property management I’ve ever run into.

I’ve lived in one of there apts In Edgewater and maintenance was very prompt and the staff is very friendly and helpful I was very happy living here for the past year , yes I would recommend anyone to rent from them…

The owner is great and very attentative. David is very responsive, I can contact him at anytime and he responds.. The maintenance guys are awesome . I love the way the halls are kept clean and mopped regularly.. I have had some unpleasant experiences in my apartment but they have been addressed accordingly...
