This review is both a reflection of State Farm's policies as well as how I was treated by Shannon's agency.
I was shopping around for new insurance because of the three year cycle these agencies artificially impost on their customers. We all know after three years if you haven't looked for new insurance you're probably over paying.
I stumbled across Shannon's agency and decided to get a quote. The State Farm website isn't great. It's pretty limited and after filling out the 'message' to send along with my quote request it wouldn't let me send anything over.
I reached out to Shannon directly via email explained the situation deleted the message on her website and was finally able to resend my quote request.
I didn't hear anything back from Shannon until I reached out and asked if she was able to locate my request. She said 'yes' but that someone else in her agency would handle the quote. I received an email shortly after that from Haley. She apologized for the delay but attached my homeowners quote to review.
She also expressed that they would not be able to insure the vehicles I had requested a quote for as well. My main transport is a 2021 Ford Ranger XLT the other vehicle I only use in the summer is my 2015 Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
Alarmed by the statement "you were not eligible for an auto policy at this time" I had to learn more. I have a credit score of 836, my home is full paid for, and I've never filed any kind of insurance claim ever in my life. It didn't make any sense. I replied back asking for more detail and was ignored.
After googling reasons why they might not cover me it appears State Farm is a company that won't insure 'older' KIAs or Hyundai's because of their "ease of being stolen". Apparently your driving record or where you live and work don't have any factor in the decision. It's a form of discrimination in my opinion.
What really bothered me though is not just being ignored but the fact that it felt like Shannon simply handed me off to someone else in her agency because she couldn't be bothered. She couldn't even be bothered to reach out to me directly herself to explain what the ineligibility actually meant or if there were ways around it. The denial all came through email - not one phone call was made by her or her team.
If this is how State farm treats their potential patrons it's a wonder they keep them at all.

Shannon called me today to accept feedback on my experience. I believe it's a valuable way to make 'amends' in a way to people who feel 'slighted'. I was given an opportunity to let her know how this experience made me feel and her response was rotted in self-reflection, which I appreciated.
I've raised my review because of this interaction alone. I do think State Farm as a company should reconsider their discriminatory action of not insuring specific vehicles 'just because'. I get the vehicle may be 'risky' but I am not.

We have been a satisfied long-term customer with Shannon and State Farm. Our family just had some sudden changes that needed to be addressed and Melissa helped us quickly, professionally, and made the entire process (that I was dreading) very pleasant and productive. Thank you Melissa.

If you want helpful service in the time of need, look elsewhere. Shannon will not call you back, reply to emails, or offer assistance in the claim process. Even when your car is totaled by a drunk driver, and you are lucky to walk away from an accident that was not your fault. You will go through the entire process by trial and error yourself and deal with the corporate office only, with long hold times and a difficult online portal. Like a hermit neighbor, Shannon will go radio silent when any real work other than signing policies arrives.

I called in to get a quote and spoke with Haley B. She was fabulous!!! She asked questions, I would have never thought about for coverage. She was able to get me a better policy to fit my needs than what I had at almost half the cost. She answered every question and explained everything. Haley made the transition so easy and even followed up to make sure I was able to get into the app. I 100% loved not feeling pressured or taken advantage of. We are extremely pleased with our recent switch of home and auto insurance to State Farm with Shannon Morreale in Cary. They saved us money and even gave us better coverage in some areas.
