Excellent staff, and Doctor. Nice variety of products to choose from for your eyewear needs. A little more expensive than the big box retailers, but worth it for the better service, and personal care they give.

Nice people but the hours of operation are poor. If you don’t work 2nd shift or aren’t retired this place won’t work for you. I had to take a half day for my appointment and an extended lunch to pick up my glasses. Staying open only to 4pm is very inconvenient for first shifters.

Have gone to Family Optical since living in Belvidere(15yrs). Upon having exam was informed by Dr that I should try transcending bifocals, asked what would happen if I didn't like them, said they can be returned. Proceeded in getting frames that have to be certain size so I was informed for the lenses. Frames were 224.00. Placed order and paid for all. A week and a half received glasses, couldn't get use to lenses took them back within 3 days. Office staff said that wasn't long enough so waited about a week then returned. Told them I couldn't get used to them and wanted reading glasses instead. At that point I was informed couldn't return frames so to say I was not happy. Informed by staff I could buy another pair but would not get money back for other frame that was actually larger than needed. Bought frame for 115.00. Waited another week and half received glasses just to find out they were made for distance and not reading so here we go have to wait another week and a half. Being a senior citizen retired on fixed income this 450.00 I paid out has really hurt the budget. The worst part of the whole ordeal is having a pair of perfectly good frames worth 224.00 in my position that I can not use. I did offer them back to Family Optical for 115.00 but they wouldn't bite. Good luck if you use them.

My experience here was very pleasant. The staff were friendly, taking the time to speak with me and share their thoughts/opinions to get the best pair of glasses for my optical plan. There is not the high-pressure sales as the mall-like establishments. The prices are much more reasonable and great for my family’s needs. Also, bearing in mind that I did check with my insurance before scheduling the appointment, the price was by far better than those big-name establishments. They also accept Care-Credit, which is helpful for those bigger family purchases (say for 2-5 people -lol) for eye-glasses to have the no-interest payment periods.

Staff is friendly and helpful. The doctors seem to be knowledgeable and care about their patients. The location is a bit small and does not have an extensive selection of frames but what they do have is of good quality and designer brands.

I have been going to them for a couple years now. And I have been extremely happy with them. They are all very friendly and welcoming when you walk in. The staff is very helpful, and not pushy. They want to make sure you're happy with your choices. The one lady I had was fantastic that helped me pick out frames last week. She made sure to give me her honest opinion with what looks good and what didn't. And Doctor Coy was awesome. He was very friendly, and funny. I would absolutely recommend them to everyone.

I love Family Optical center. They are by far the friendliest eye care professionals I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. They make me feel comfortable and like I really matter. No complaints. Five Star. Hands down.

Extremely expensive eye exams. I was charged $214 for an eye exam. My insurance only covers about $40 of this. I called other optometrist offices, (such as Walmart and Target), and their fee for the exact same exam was only $95-99. I would not go back here because I can't justify being charged over double what other places are charging.
