Today my first visit to Schaefer Automotive in Swansea IL. I definitely recommend this establishment to friends and family for all Automotive needs. I took both my vehicles today for oil changes and general maintenance. Prices are fair and legit. Establishment is clean and the staff are very Upfront and professional. Will definitely be back for future oil change and maintenance for both my cars. If I could give 10 stars I would.

I had a lot of hope in this body shop. Got a quote to get the hood painted and a small dent removed and a paint job on the cargo door of my pickup truck. The hood looks good. They fixed the dent on the cargo door. They did not repaint the cargo door as quoted. They simply sprayed clear coat over old scratches and an area where there was a small paint chip. It was quoted to be completely repainted. When I returned to ask them about it, I was told that I did not point the paint chip and small scratches out to them during the quote. If it was supposed to be a complete paint job on the rear cargo door, why are the still scratches and paint chips under the new clear coat????!!!! Not happy. This truck only has $50,000 miles. $1630.00. Cash for this job when I was quoted $1400.00 and this is what I get!!!! I am furious! People can’t just do what you pay them for. I’m going to remove the bug shield tomorrow to see if the hood was repainted like it was supposed to be. Damn it!

Whoever owns this place is in dire need of a crash course in customer service. FIrst of all, I was told it would be two months before I could drop off my antique car at the shop. No big deal. I can wait as the car is my leisure vehicle. Plus, I was told that Schaefer’s is the best shop to take old cars in the Metro East. So, I figured if I had to wait two months that the process of fixing my car would be expedited, right? Wrong. After I dropped off my antique car, I received no communication whatsoever from Schaefer’s. My car remained in the same parking space outside the building (adjacent to the street) where I parked it for 4 days. Untouched. I drove past the shop daily to see if any progress occurred. None whatsoever. Who leaves an antique car outside unsecured for 4 days? A car that can be stolen very easily. I noticed every other car was locked up in the garage except my car. I don’t understand if the shop was too busy or if they were short-staffed, (No one ever contacted me) I wouldn’t mind waiting, but the lack of communication forced me to take possession of my car. These guys have to be rich as they seem very lackadaisical. I have a master’s degree and I was unable to formulate a reason as to why this shop conducts business in the manner they do. I have lived across the United States and this is by far the worst shop I have ever experienced! A simple conversation would’ve saved me from wasting my time.
Edit: My vehicle was in your shop from 4/16/24 to 4/19/24. It was the 1981 Oldsmobile Tornado. I'm reviewing the right shop. FYI

Called in over a week in advance and was told to bring in my car on a Friday, left my car over the weekend and was told my car hadn’t been touched on Monday when I went to pick it up.

Such nice folks, very knowledgeable & helpful. I went in thinking I needed a new heater core and found out my heater was clogged with dog hair (imagine that, with three australian shepherds). Their service was very fast!
