“I came into purchase some specialty small screws and the people that I talked to really didn't know what I was talking about. Fortunately Jim who I'm sure has been there a long time knew exactly what I needed and found them within minutes.
If I owned this store I would ensure that I keep Jim on board because the rest of the crew is extremely inexperienced in hardware stores”

“This is my neighborhood hardware store. Not as big as Lowes, Home Depot, or Menards, but a great place to have around regardless. They almost always have what I'm looking for. This is also where I go for LP gas tank exchange. It's always easy to find an employee to help, too.”

“Came here looking for a mantle. Pat showed us around, explained sizes and finishes to us. Let us look around and once we found one we thought was perfect for our home, he answered our questions, had the wood cut to size, checked us out, and loaded it up into our car for us. The different types of wood and decor they have here are vintage and beautiful. Service here was exceptional. We will definitely be back for our future needs.”

“Well, it's Ace Hardware... It's not like the Ace Hardware of years gone by. Like most retail establishments, the employees don't seem as knowledgeable as they did years ago. But, they do have a good enough selection to get you through any kind of household emergency that you might run into. It's a little pricier than, say a Menards or Home Depot; but, it is convenient. So, you might pay a little more; but, it costs you less in gas than to drive to Menards or Home Depot, so in the long run, it's not really any more expensive.

I was going to give them 5 stars; but, their employees are about as knowledgeable as the people working at Menards or Home Depot. That is, they know where to find something in the store; but, most of them don't know what half the stuff they sell is for, or how it's used. Just my observation.”

“Local ownership of a smaller hardware store that can provide items the big box hardware stores don't have. The prices are sometimes competitive, but often slightly more for those found elsewhere. I enjoy having a choice over the big three.”

“This Ace Hardware location is excellent. The staff is exceptionally helpful and friendly, and the store is large and clean with a very wide selection - especially for home decor and gifts. Although it's not the closest Ace to me, I'll drive the extra distance from now on!”

“The place to go when you need common annuals, bushes, or trees. Great sales after the main planting season has passed.
Also the place for Simpson Strong Tie connectors which are the thing to use in construction.
They also carry manila rope handy for lashings projects.”

“When my brother's trailer broke down near the Indiana border, the only store within 2 hours that was still open until 9pm was this Tractor Supply. He called an associate at the store and they found the leaf spring he needed. They were willing to stay a little after closing time if needed so we could make the long trip there to pick it up. We cannot express enough our appreciation for this store's associate for going the extra mile for us during an emergency!”

“They are so knowledgeable and always help me to find the perfect hardware. I always bring either a cabinet door or a handle I removed to make sure I get the right size. If you can't find what you are looking for there you won't find it anywhere.”

“As a city planner, I am used to interpreting technical drawings and this was a bear to assemble because the directions are hard to follow. My advice is go slow and have a helper. Our secret to success was devoting at last an hour to assembly. You need both the directions and the actual parts to make sense of assembly, not one or the other. Look at the directions, then look at the part, and put the two together, then re-check the directions so it's less unclear. What's frustrating is that the parts in the directions are not depicted as they exist in reality. The real parts have more holes and are scaled differently than they are shown. The diagrams are small and difficult to match to the actual parts. Still, if you have a helper to hold the lid in place while you screw the brackets to the base, it goes easier. The 134 gallons of space goes provides enough room to store a small grill, 3 bags of charcoal, lighter fluid, and outdoor seat cushions. Best of all, the deck box solves the problem of having to make multiple trips to the garage to get all the grilling stuff and frees us space in the garage. The screws are self-taping, meaning you need to apply force to get the tip screw to penetrate the plastic. Be patient and remember to check what you're doing with the directions as you assemble. There are plastic spacers you install behind the joints to give the box extra stability and wind resistance. Lastly, the product has a 10 year limited warranty from Suncast so I recommend registering your product. Ace Hardware honored my $15 off the purchase of a >$75 item coupon and the gentlemen helped me load it into my SUV. Home Despot would not have been that helpful.”

“Menards in Long Grove is a fantastic store! The selection is massive, offering everything from home improvement supplies to seasonal decor. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help, making it easy to find exactly what you need. Prices are competitive, and the frequent sales are a great bonus. “I inadvertently ordered the wrong color, despite saving some money due to a free shipping coupon. I contacted Koffler and spoke with Heide, who offered for me to return the product and order the correct color.
It was my error and there would be additional cost to return it, so I decided to keep what I ordered and maybe find a place to use that while waiting for another free shipping coupon.
Heide felt bad that I ordered the wrong product the first time and posted a note to herself to let me know the next time there was a free shipping coupon. When that occurred, Heide reached out to me, not once, but twice so I was able to take advantage of the free shipping. Who does that?
Heide and the others I spoke with at Koffler were very nice to speak with and I complimented Heide to her manager, Ron.
Thank you again Koffler for your excellent customer service!”

“I don’t go to Home Depot a lot but all the times I’ve been to this location I’ve always had a good experience. I don’t remember names but this really nice guy helped me pick out outdoor lights and made sure I got the right ones and the younger blonde girl at self checkout is always so so so nice”

“"Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks!" So, this location lived up to and beyond their slogan during my visit today, and during my last one also, but this one was simply superior in terms of the customer service I received. See, this is EXACTLY how every visit to this, and really, every store, should go — I'm not always on my cane, but today was a bad pain day for the spine & hips, so I hobbled in, was greeted by a friendly employee and allowed to continue on my way to where I was headed, which was to the screws and nails; nobody pounced on me like some greeters do, insisting that they immediately lead me to the items I needed, or asking me a barrage of questions concerning my hardware needs etc. I HATE that. I want to be greeted, acknowledged and let to go on my way, unless I TELL you I am looking for something specific and would like to be taken straight to it, or, after looking around, if unable to find what I want and I'm visibly wandering aimlessly and obviously in search of "something," I appreciate being approached to ask if I need help.
Today, in my search for the screws I needed, no problem, knew where to go, found the package in a minute or two. The nails, on the other hand, were a different story.....
(and this would be my only gripe about the store itself, because it just makes absolutely no sense whatsoever - you'll understand in a minute)...My logical assumption was, since there was a full aisle, both sides, nearly floor to about 6' high, LOADED with every type, length, width, and duty of screw and nut that's ever been made, and for any and every kind of material or surface, that there should also be a full aisle of the same with nails, respectively. But there was not, as far as I was able to see. I found a younger employee and asked where I could find them, and he led me to a tiny section of shelving with large boxes of nails meant for larger projects (I needed all of ten, 2½" galvanized roofing nails, or box nails), so I discovered it was either pay 23 bucks for a pile of nails I was never gonna use again, or drive my sorry butt to Home Depot, which I loathe, but this was where my husband got the original package we were working from, so I at least knew I could get them there. I thought, this simply could NOT be the ONLY selection of nails they had. This is a friggin hardware store, for Christ's sake!
Walked around the corner and saw a small end cap display of packages of nails, in a variety of metal types, colors, lengths and for tons of different purposes, going all the way down to your basic thumbtack, which I didn't know was considered a nail, but I digress...
Not a single nail that I saw on any of these hooks were suited to my needs, and so I walked back into the screw aisle, frustrated, and peeking into bins, thinking, this stuff HAS to be mis-marked or something; that CAN'T be all the nails they have! In mid-that-thought, another youngster was showing a customer into this aisle, and when I asked for his help, he was SUPER cool, very patient and understanding with my ridiculous confusion, and it turned out he, himself was also confounded by the store's lack of selection. I thought, maybe in back? Can we grab a manager to ask, just in case? I joked, I am sure I've walked past them a hundred times and they're hiding in plain sight, but at this point, I just feel like this is a whole Where's Waldo deal..."
A co-worker, not sure if he was a manager or not, but, a gentleman nearer my age, named Henry came up RIGHT then actually and asked if he could help. Both he and the younger guy went to town looking for my nails in the little bit of what they DID have, and Henry picked out a $3 package for me that was so close that it actually wound up doing the job. Between the two of them, I swear, they were just all over this customer service thing and very genuinely wanted to make sure I got what I needed and left happy. Henry even carried my basket with the fire s”

“Tom at the Lake Zurich Rental center really helped me out. I was planning on renting a sewer rodding machine because my shower was backing up. After listening to my issue tom suggested the issue was in my septic field. Turns out I took the cover off and the tank was totally full. Tom chose to help me solve my problem over the phone instead of just trying to rent me a piece of equipment. I will think of this rental department whenever I need another tool to rent. Thanks again TOM!”

Assigned a door/dock area, drop trailer and pull out and wait. They knock on your door when done so you can head into office for paperwork. The whole process took about an hour. Plenty of space to maneuver.”
