Not great to work with. Sometimes they respond to emails quickly and sometimes not at all. Calling works okay. It's your standard landlord stuff, the people answering the phones are nice enough, but the company as a whole is not one I would rent from again.
Any future renters: no reminder is sent out to fill out the lease ending/move-out form, which you do have to fill out even if your lease is ending. So put a reminder in your calendar for 30 days before you want to move out or you'll get charged for an extra month.

Five Star Rent has always been fair and honest with me. The staff is friendly and willing to work with you. I haven't had a problem yet with renting from Five Star.

We have just moved in & our interactions with the office staff has been great. Response time for scheduling any maintenance & getting it done has also been done very timely.

I have never been more disappointed with a company and their business. We ended up filing a dispute case with them and were able to get most of our security deposit back. However, I still believe it is ridiculous that this is the norm for most of their tenants and they take advantage of the fact that most people will simply send them money to have the problem go away. (UPDATE is down below)
If you rent from them, do not expect to get your security deposit back. They charge you an absurd amount for "Painting, labor, and materials" after you move out and do not provide any information about what was actually done.
I went into the main office in Pocatello and was told nobody could help me there and I needed to dispute the charges via email. I have yet to hear from them about our dispute, but they have emailed me that I owe them an additional $74.46 on top of them keeping our ENTIRE security deposit.
When we moved in, there were numerous box elder bugs all over the apartment. When we complained about them, they told us that it is the tenants responsibility to deal with them.
This company does not care about it's tenants and is only after their money.
UPDATE: After a week of going through the dispute process, we were able to change our security deposit statement. We sent them a 10-page document that included several pictures from our New Move-In Report (we had to reach out to them directly to get those pictures), and after reviewing our case, they dropped a significant amount of the charges and instead sent us a check $742.49. They went from asking us to paying them nearly $80 to sending us $742.49.
If you are currently renting, or going to rent or buy from Five Star Property Management, make sure you have pictures or video of EVERYTHING. No matter how small or insignificant it may be. Even the painting on door hinges or light switches. They will do the same when you move out and if you don't have good pictures, then you may be out of luck. Don't let them take advantage of you and file a dispute for the charges. Josh was very responsive once we finally established contact and I am grateful that he listened to our dispute.

Very helpful and courteous. Will go out of their way to help you especially if you have special circumstances. Do not use a bankcard to pay your rent- their credit card processing fee is quite high and you will end up being charged over 50 bucks per rent transaction.

My experience with this company has been awful! My pregnant wife and I moved in only a few days ago and multiple appliances weren't fully installed and the AC unit does not work, it was clearly installed incorrectly because we could see daylight through it. They won't take care of any of these issues and instead are having us schedule the sub contractors to get it done. On top of that the only communication we have had has been through email and frankly ineffective. They never answer the phone and do not return our calls and voicemails. Somebody came out today to look at the AC issue and told me we would have to wait until Monday even though a different company was here yesterday and capable of completing the job that day.

I had a hard time navigating the phones, but they responded quickly to email. Met with me at a showing right on time, and everyone I spoke to was friendly, helpful, and respectful.

Five Star did a great job for my boys and me. We had a leak and a water heater break while we lived there. They were prompt and always helpful. The application process to rent one of their units was simple. I do recommend them.

I recently transitioned my properties to 5 Star and the process was very smooth and professional. I can recommend them from a landlord perspective 100%. I am excited for them to manage more of my properties in the future.

Five Star has handled the rental of our home in Pocatello for 7 years and have been just great to work with. They have stayed on top of things and we really appreciate how well they have managed things for us.

Would like to leave a 5 Star review but the people working here are not helpful. Have attempted to contact them several times and crickets on their end. Would highly recommend not using their service.

SUMMARY AT END
If I could give half a star I would.
First, I had read over the contract and called with questions about their “excessive utility fee” and how they base the fee amount off of (i.e previous tenants, the whole complex as a whole where the unit resided, or an average from a collective data set from the utility company). No one could tell me exactly, I called probably 2-3 times about this. It wasn’t told to me until I got an hold of the unit keys.
Another issue with the contract is that it’s very dependent, meaning that certain conditions are dependent upon the tenant doing something or the property management doing something. On some points it’s clear as to what the tenant must do (cleaning) but very unclear on what the property management does (broken faucet/appliance). I asked what is it that they provide as property management for tenants? So I can better understand the conditions as to when to call them and/or prepare for certain situations where I may need to pay for something. They could tell me exactly how the process works with them on the phone but THEY COULDN'T SPECIFY IN THEIR CONTRACTS. Instead their contract implies that it’s all up to the tenant.
This is why we ask questions people.
Yet again, In their contract it stated where to get the keys for the unit. I also called about this, asking about more details of where this location is. It was stated that I would go to the post office to pick up keys. And I said okay so I will go there the day I move in. My move in date comes in, mind you it is a Friday, I go to the post office to pick up keys only to find out that they’re no keys. They have to put a work order in and I have to come back Monday. Mind you I’ve got my stuff to move-in that day and was told to come back Monday! Flabbergasted, I called FiveStar and told them what jut occurred. They told me I was suppose to come to the FiveStar office to pick up keys for the unit. Not only that but they told me that someone else had marked on my account that I was notified to come to the office to pick up the keys and not the post office. Mind you I have never live in Pocatello prior so I have no idea where everything is or how traffic works. I go get the keys and ask for a copy of the lease agreement. The person at the desk told to me that they can print the agreement but the landlord signature is not on it. (Well what good is the agreement without the signature?)
The issue I had next was with their payment portals. I love to do automatic payments and have funds separated and pulled from specific accounts for payments. Well here comes the first of the month (during a holiday weekend too) and I get notified from my bank about an NSF charge. Well I call my bank (and I use to work customer service with my bank) and I was told that FiveStar was pulling funds, but from the wrong account number that I had entered into their system. So of course I’m getting frustrated from everything prior and to top it off, if the payment doesn’t go through by the 5th of the new month then I get charged a late fee and additional late fees for each day after until paid in full. So it’s the holiday weekend I’m getting charged a fee by my bank and potentially FiveStar.
Overall:
Mind you this happened all within a week of moving in. I do believe in improvement. I’m under the assumption that all of their contracts are the same for every unit they carry. I don’t know if that is true, but that is my assumption from the experiences I’ve had. Some feedback I would give is to specify the contract to the unit. Make it crystal clear as to what the tenant is responsible for in that specific unit and what the property management is responsible for in that unit as well. Even if it means writing out a list of procedures for certain situations. I do believe that if the contract was specified I wouldn’t have had such terrible experiences with them. Concerning payments, I understand that payment systems are a cost to the business but for the fee type you are charging,
