I brought in my Jeep that has a Chevy transmission in it. I wanted their help with figuring out why it was shifting so hard and to fix a leak. 2 weeks later I pick my Jeep up after they claimed it was “done” I have never paid so much for this much disappointment.
To start, internally (within western) they were having some issues with deciding what to do to it because it’s a Chevy transmission that I installed into a Jeep. Their rationale was that it was too “modified” for them. In my opinion, It shouldn’t matter what it is in, as long as you know what transmission it is, you should be able to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair. If I were to have removed the transmission, and delivered it to them would they say that it was too modified because it was out of the vehicle?
They gave my Jeep back to me with absolutely no improvement in the shift, it still kicked like a mule and they signed off on it.
They made sure to repeat to me several times that they had to spend a lot of HOURS repairing stud threads on the transfer case. 6 studs took multiple hours to re-tap and put new studs in… this is classic labor soaking the customer.
I will give one star to them, they did fix the fluid leak that I asked them to.
But only one star because they gave it back to me without tightening the transmission pan bolts, and without tightening the pan drain plug. I left western transmission with worse leaks than when I delivered it to them.
They also gave it back to me with TERRIBLE exhaust leaks. Their claim was that because it was custom exhaust, they couldn’t get the exhaust to line up properly after TWO HOURS OF FIDDLING WITH IT. They charged me two hours for exhaust work, which comes to $260 of labor for them to give me exhaust leaks…
In the end, I paid them $2,000 for the worst service I have ever received.
I have spread the word to my family, my neighbors, my Jeep club, that these clowns are out to take your money, deliver not even half a$$ service, and do it with a $hit-eating grin on their face.
10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Super nice people. Even lent his odb1 reader to another shop in town to help out with my 1995's transmission troubleshooting.

Severely disappointed with this place given i was recommended them and all the great reviews.
Came in back in July for a quote for a repair and was told they would need the vehicle for 3 days to do the job and could get me in August 12th. After securing a loan for the total cost of the repair and a rental vehicle for the days my car would be worked on, I confirmed the date for the repair. When I called to check in and ask some questions last week and if it was okay to pick the vehicle up the 15th, I was met with them claiming they didn't know how long it would take to repair the vehicle and it depended on what they found when they did the repair. I reminded them that I was told they only needed 3 days to replace the parts and ended the call once I got my answers to my other questions. I came in today to drop off my vehicle and once again asked if the car will be ready the 15th, to which the man refused to answer and ignored my question and asked for the key to the car. I refused to hand over the key until he answered my question. I was met with a condescending, talked down to attitude all while this man is smirking/smiling as he talking to me, and if I saw the number of vehicles they had to work on before I walked in before being told they had 6 other vehicles to work on ahead of mine. I told the man that I was told when I got the quote they would need 3 days to fix my vehicle, and that not only did I not have any further funds to support extra days worth of labor or the rental car, but that they should honor the time frame they gave with the quote. This turned into a back and forth argument on how 3 days is pushing it, about the car I own, how I should have taken it to the dealership first for a proper diagnosis and not some non-dealership mechanic, and that the repair I came in for might not even fix the problem and how my car model is such a problem vehicle most mechanics refuse to work on the exact car anymore, that finally resulted in me walking out of the shop and refusing to go through with the scheduled services. I understand the shop has other vehicles to work on, but if a person comes in for a quote, is told a time frame for the repair of x-days for said quote, and makes arrangements for said repair quote and time frame, the company should honor those. Especially when it comes to an individual having to secure a loan for the exact cost for said repairs and rental vehicle in that time frame given.

Brought our vehicle in because of a noise coming from the transmission. They checked it out and recommended a service, but that the transmission was fine. A few days after the service was done, the vehicle died on the side of the highway. Come to find out the transmission hoses came undone because the clamps were not reconnected properly and most the transmission fluid was lost. We towed it back to them. They ended up doing another service without even contacting us about the vehicle. They didn’t realize they had just done the service the week prior. After picking it back up again, it last a few days before it stopped shifting. We have attempted to contact them multiple times, left multiple voice mails, and have yet to hear back from them. We went in and were told the transmission was fine, that we should be able to get a lot more life out of it, and now the transmission is shot. They came highly recommended, but I’m definitely hesitant.

This is a well run, highly qualified shop. They helped us when we were moving and the truck transmission acted up. The charge was incredibly reasonable and the issue was under warrantee from another Idaho shop. They worked this magic out and have never let us down on check-ups since! Very happy customers, Dean Reynolds and Family ❤️

Traveling north...had to stop because of a transmission issue. They got us right in, diagnosed the problem, serviced/flushed the transmission and kept us on the road for the weekend! Great service, great guys!

Corey was extremely nice and knowledgeable. Though I ended up not having a transmission issue and didn’t have to use Western Transmission, if the customer service over the phone is any indication of what you get when you get work done by them, they deserve more than 5 stars. Thanks for being so kind, unfortunately, it isn’t a common thing to experience.

I think they do good work but 670 to change a wheel bearing is over priced. Probably took advantage since I was out of town needed work

I took in my 2014 Ford Focus when the engine light turned on. It was a big gamble that I even took in this car to be serviced, I was doubtful that anyone could fix it.
They were very thorough when trying to figure out exactly what the issue was, and did everything they could to fix my awfully designed transmission. Considering how much of a headache it was to even figure out what was wrong, (the model of my car is notorious for beign one of Ford's worst), they were very clear with explaining to me over the phone what was going on. They even gave me the option to give my car over to Lithia Ford and have them fix it for cheaper. I chose to stay with western transmission because I trust that they don't cut corners and don't try to cheap out on bad parts. The repair took a really long time, but was worth it! Excellent customer service. And I do mean excellent. They never got upset or impatient with me.
Considering that I was a college student, or just because they wanted to be nice, they knocked off a few hundred dollars even though it was a very reasonable price to begin with!
Will be going here again for any other issues my car has. Still drives beautifully. Gonna run this car six feet into the ground before I consider buying a new one haha

Best Transmission shop in our area. They just replaced my Subaru transmission for exactly what they estimated and it’s like having a new car

These guys are the best. They are the only place we take our vehicles when we need a new transmission. They have kept us on the road for decades, and have done a fantastic job every time, even honoring their warranty for previous owners. They have gone out of their way many times to get difficult parts, sometimes making parts when needed. They have fixed over ten of our vehicles. We are extremely happy with their work and dedication to be the best in the business. Our friends and family drive from Wyoming, Montana, Utah and all parts of Idaho just to have Western Transmission work on their vehicles. Ask any tow truck driver and they will tell you where to go. We won't go anywhere else. They will take care of you for the best price possible, and do their best to keep it affordable. They are honest and go the extra mile. Definitely give them a call today. It's worth waiting for an appointment.
