We stumbled upon the property after a long day of driving at the tail end of a road trip. The Modern Hotel is a renovated motel with upgraded amenities, while keeping its mid century charm. The hotel and restaurant staff have created a personalized experience and its obvious they take pride and are committed to their vision. Our room included a large rainfall shower, oversized towels, locally made body lotion and soap, and a ridiculously comfortable bed.
The restaurant and bar is worth a trip for Boise locals. The bar offers a number of craft cocktails created by the bartenders who are also well versed in classic cocktails. We were too wiped from driving all day to eat a full dinner, but had appetizers at the bar.
Breakfast included a fritata menu, juice, yogurt parfaits, and locally baked banana bread.
This is NOT a "check in at midnight sleep and grab a bagel and banana from the breakfast buffet on your way out hotel" but a refreshing change from antiseptic chains or perfect for a night on the town.

Everything has been fine— cute rooms, great location, bar service is fabulous! I don’t want to actually complain. But, I just have one tiny thing— I am a solo female traveler— and when I checked in I don’t know how many times the lady at the desk loudly said my room number and exactly where it was. I even went to order a glass of wine at the bar to take to my room, and she yelled my room number from the front desk to the bar. In this day and age, I think it’s safest to either not speak a room number out loud at all, or be very quiet and discreet about it. I’m sure she meant no harm, but maybe in the future this should be a point of training. It’s been a lovely stay otherwise.

It's always great to do a stay-cation there. The employees are all great at their jobs, kind, respectful, always friendly/pleasure to talk to. That is a big plus that they have going for them. One reason we keep coming back to stay there or for dinner.
Food & drinks: They have an awesome cocktail menu.

I booked a room for my wife for Mother’s Day. After booking I saw it did not have a tub which she really wanted. I called and was informed they will do an upgrade for free if available at check in. When I got there the front office gal I had spoke to had already upgraded us.
The room was clean spacious and had a comfy bed. My wife used the bikes provided by the hotel and loved the tub. She had an excellent stay and enjoyed the staff.
If you need a day away from home or are visiting I would definitely recommend this be on your list.
Thank you to the front office gal for giving excellent service.

We stayed here previously on a road trip when passing through town so I was planning to check it out again. They advertise specials on their website with no restriction dates such as getting 25% off for not using housekeeping services. Today May 10 I tried to book for early June and got a message the code is only valid through June 1. Would probably be helpful to list that with the special instead of wasting people’s time.

The Modern is the most interesting cocktail bar in Boise, with occasional misses far out numbered by hits. Sadly, a couple of years ago, they lost their lead bartender to law school, but they have maintained his standards in execution if not invention.
For dinner, it’s an outstanding restaurant with at least one “wow” on each visit. The menu changes frequently and is influenced by the season.
Be warned, it’s not a cheap visit. Three or four of drinks and and a few small plates can takes you well past the hundred dollar mark.
Can’t speak to it as a hotel.
Walkability: Easy walking to downtown.
Food & drinks: Yeah, it’s a hotel, but I’ve never known anyone to stay there. This is a review of the restaurant.

Not that they need another review, but they were so good I had to write one. Great rooms, great breakfast provided, great bikes provided, uber provided and paid for to and from the airport, and all at such a reasonable price. Rivaling all of this are the folks behind the desk. They were so kind and accommodating to whatever we needed. They even loaned me a beanie for our bike ride as it was a bit cold during our stay. 5 stars all the way around! You will love your stay there.

Retrofitted motel. Since an old motel the rooms are a 3.5-4 star, but cute and comfortable. The restaurant and bar are great and has happy hour. They are thoughtful about touches throughout the property like brands they use, service at check in, etc.

Stopped for happy hour. It was an enjoyable time. The bar is hidden in a 1960ish hotel. Like a hidden treasure.
Food & drinks: Good appetizers with the drinks.

Cool place. Best free breakfast I've ever had. Not really the common continental style as it is served to you. Best coffee in town. Super comfy beds and awesome showers. Service is so great.
Nearby activities: Plenty of restaurants and bars in walking distance

Great place to stay in downtown. Only downside this time was the road construction closing the main road out front.

Tiffany was very friendly and helpful. The beds were very comfortable, great shower. The breakfast frittata was made to order and yummy. Recommend booking directly.
Walkability: Right downtown, so you can walk to everything.
