A beautiful Art center that encourages cultural education and environmental awareness through art. We loved taking part in the community art project and were honored to have our watercolor tiles added to the project.

If you are in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and are at the Kīlauea Visitor Center just go to the left (as you look at the visitor's center) and you will arrive at the Volcano Art Center. Ensure it is not close to closing time or they will warn you to come back tomorrow as they close promptly. The art was created by local artists and there is a lot to see and if you are interested in purchasing items there is plenty of media to choose from. Keep in mind that they do this for a living so prices are not cheap for a quick souvenir like you can get at the visitor's center.

The art gallery is very quaint and the staff was really nice. They featured local artists and have items that are more affordable, $50 and up. There was a small sculpture garden and they were interesting too. They also had a yarn or crochet (?) feature that was incorporated in the building and that was really lovely. There's also a small pathway if you'd like to take a look and since it's their administrative office they're not open as much as the other gallery inside volcanoes national park. It's somewhat child friendly and there's a few restaurants in the area so it's convenient to get to.

Aloha I recently relocated to Volcano and word around the town was to visit the Volcano Garden Arts Sancturay of Ira Ono. So, I did! I was enchanted by the mystical gardens and places to creatively play and hear children's laughter echo. This is not just a "tourist destination", it's a local artistic hub for creative individuals to come together and play like children laughing. After meeting Ira Ono, I was invited to participate in the community writer's group. I could not have felt more welcomed into the Volcano community. It's hard relocating. I called upon Pablo Neruda and "lifted up my roots" seeking a place to root again. Ira's hub of creative people of all kinds (culinary included) is helping me establish my roots in Volcano. This is truly a place of enchantment both for tourists and locals. A glimpse of true Hawaiian creative community. Thank You Ira Ono. Mahalo, Vittorio...
