Little pricy but the nearby Costco is about 2 hours drive away, so…It’s got pretty much everything you need from basic stuff like veggies and meat to booze and pharmacy.I believe you need to have a military ID to shop here though.

1. They Don't give enough towels or toilet paper and when you ask it seems like a problem. 2.Rooms are stink 3. Beds are hard4.Game room has most games out of order5. Foods horrible 6. Way under staffedWhat really pissed me off was they held a bunch of us hostage in the store without warning saying we can exit till the entire LONG line that pays. Absolutely no warning before hand.

Totally surprised by this place. The variety and offerings are exceptional here. They have a little bit of everything and it's not a supermarket but you'll find all the necessary staples. You can meet all your shopping needs and the prices are reasonable.

If you are affiliated with the military you are privileged to lodge here. The office is very accommodating if there is an issue pronto.Though not camping or roughing it, staying here is comfortable. Why?*it is very convenient to the volcano without paying an arm or a leg*the stain glass is beautiful in your accommodation and their office*our cottage has a pseudo or mini walk in closet but had no hangers in #17.*there is a fireplace but you need to go to the nearby General Store to buy a heavy brick like item for your fire; our cabin had no matches or lighter.*the bed(s) are so comfy you'll pass out almost as soon as your head touches your pillow * their sheets are super soft and the thin Snowstorm brand blanket felt very cozy*the shower has good pressure*the heaters in living room and bedroom can turn a freezing inside temperatures to warm and toasty * there is a ceiling fan in the bedroom*our cottage had one tv; heard next cabin had two TVs.* mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker by sink* birds greeted us first thing the first morning in front of our cottageCons: * if they replaced the mustard colored drapes in the unit to a beige or white or light green to match the closet door, pairing frame and stained glass outer it would make it much more esthetically pleasing.* nightstand and dresser were useful since our bedroom closet had no hangers* not sure why but no cleaner to empty trash or change towels; walk your used towels to the office to exchange for fresh ones* smashed a few bugs in shower and one crawling on my arm on couch not a biggie but well noted Get an offer or invitation to stay here? Jump at the chance.

Fun find in the Volcanos National Park. Everything I would think a general store would be … on a military base in a Hawaiian state park ? ?

Keep in mind this is a military facility and it doesn't seem to mind to whom it caters to. Not that this is bad, but the patron will be disappointed if they expect a lot in terms of service and amenities. Government entities are never profit minded, rather they are only there to provide a service. The rooms are nice and basic. The personnel are usually friendly. And it is less expensive than the Volcano House down the street. The breakfast buffet is chow hall quality and I suspect so are the other meals. Again, it serves its purpose. With all that being said, I'd stay here again without hesitation and I'm not driven by prices.

Not a very big store for shopping, but what they have on hand is good for everyone who stays there. The employees there are great, along with being friendly, also very courteous to everyone who shops in there.

Everything here was wonderful EXCEPT customer service. You would think the workers would understand that they are servicing service members and treat them AND their families with some ounce of respect. We didn't get that. The only place where we felt comfortable and treated like humans was the bowling alley... the workers there were amazing. Before going to the bowling alley we decided to pop into the bar they have on property...The bartender slammed the door on us when we asked if he was still open (it was 8pm)The best was the lady working at the front desk. She rolled her eyes when we asked for the number to the front desk and slammed a pamphlet down on the counter with the number on it.... (This information proved to be useless since no one answers phones there anyway). Prior to checking in We had been trying to extend our stay for a week and a half and called every single day with no answer! When we asked about extending during check in she said "oh no, we no more nothing, we busy". So we let her know we were trying to call for over a week and all she said was "we short staffed"... it seems to be a plague nowadays to provide customer service.I am still leaving three stars because the property and the cabin was very nice and not to mention the workers at the bowling alley!! Ps. A lot of the games in the arcade are broken.

Great budget place to stay but it's budget for sure. The good- super safe, as close as you can get to the volcano, store available, laundry available, gas station, bowling, couple places to eat.EXTREMELY DATED, even for big island. for a place with No air conditioning there's not a single fan in the room. Laundry is available but you better remember to bring coins, they don't have any. 30 miles from anything else. They have Wi-Fi but the code expires every 24 hours and you have to go to the front office to get tue new one.

This is a really great recreational facility for military families. The newly refurbished cabins and apartments are beautifully acquainted with new beds, linens and all interiors.

I had no expectations going into this place and I was pleasantly surprised. Price: a 3 bedroom jacuzzi tub with kitchen was $220/night no tax with Veteran rate. For that location you can't beat the price.Accommodations: walking into the place was updated for a camp. The bathrooms nice and new. The kitchen and furniture a bit dated but good. The kitchen had lots of utensils, pots pans, dish ware, oven, stove, coffeee maker, microwave, and toaster. The only problem would be the master bed. It was uncomfortable but oh so creaky. We had our 1 year old sleeping in the room with us and it was so loud getting in and out of bed my husband and I tried not to move at all. There were tvs in the master bed room and living area. Cable was basic and the Wi-Fi was pretty good! Amenities: two places to eat, a general store with lots of options at pretty fair prices, a bowling alley and theater (this wasn't open while we were there), a bar, post office, gas station, and laundry. I really liked the general store as it had a lot of things and some touristy items in case you needed to bring something back.Access on the park allows you to purchase a 7 day pass for like $30. Just note that it is restricted to one person and once car. We had a rental and that was an option. But make sure the person who leaves the park is listed on the pass or has the id of the person listed. Not sure they will let you in if it doesn't match.Didn't see many people walking around but in the common areas people were always there. It was such a lovely cold and nicely kept place that I can't wait to go back. It is a treasure and I'm glad they are open.
