I never really use Yelp but I'm writing this to warn the community about this hospital. I know options for animal care on island is limited but I beg you to seek out other options. VCA is very money-focused and a good chunk of the employees are cold or rude. We took my cat to VCA after being referred by our primary vet so that she could undergo a CT scan. We showed up to our appointment, signed the papers, and found out that we owed them $3,954.93. We reluctantly paid for this since it was the only way left to diagnose our cat. They called us around 4 and told us that she'd be ready to pick up any time after 5 so we made our way down. Once we got there, we found out the doors were locked due to an infectious animal coming in so we waited outside for a while before anyone came to check on us. They told us they'd bring our cat out right after we paid the remainder of the balance owed and that they could take our card inside. We had to explicitly ask them for the exact amount and they were like "Oh. Okay." and went back in to get the exact amount. Once they came out, they told us we were good to go. We were confused and asked if she needed a cone to prevent her from rubbing the biopsy site and/or pain killers and they assured us we didn't. Fast forward a day or two, the site of the biopsy has swollen up and is weeping pus and blood. It developed an infection due to VCA not instructing us to do anything other than "let her rest". We continue to BEG VCA for her results and are consistently sent to voicemail that tells us we'll receive a response within 3 days. No response. Nearing two weeks later, we call again and get through to the doctor. Doctor Wakayama was incredibly cold and non-empathetic as he bluntly told us that she has cancer. He told us that we basically have no options unless we wanted to fly to the mainland and asked if we had any questions to which we said no and hung up. Not once did he say "I'm so sorry" or anything showing a shred of empathy and we came away from that call feeling absolutely heartbroken and out of options. About a week later, we reached out to VCA yet AGAIN to ask for her paperwork from the CT scan and biopsy as well as the imaging and they basically said no. They told us we could have a report but they would not give us access to the images that we paid almost $4,000 for. Our primary vet has also been unable to get any of the information from VCA and we're unable to proceed with treatment without them. Our cat continues to get worse every day that she's not receiving care and VCA made it even worse by creating a situation where an infection could develop on top of the site with the tumor due to the biopsy. They simply do not care about anything other than money and if you care about your pet, you'll steer far away from this place. I highly recommend Waipahu Waikele Pet Hospital. We took her there for an emergency visit and they're so incredibly helpful and empathetic. They happily answered all of our questions and made sure we felt valued and taken care of.

It took me quite awhile to finally write up this review as I've been an emotional wreck but I think I'm finally ready to. It's still surreal that one day you've got a healthy active furbaby and within a week you're doing research on places that can Euthanize her with you in the room and you want her to be cremated and be able to have her ashes given back to you. Our Khloe Girl succumbed to Lymphona within 2 weeks of diagnosis. Although she has another regular vet, I wanted to make sure that if we knew it was time to Euthanize her after hours there would be a place that we can take her. I called this VCA since it was 24/7 and asked them about the process, prices etc....the front desk was patient, helpful and compassionate. I was able to "pre register" over the phone so that if I did need to bring her in at night they would have all the information. We spoiled her rotten and 2 weeks later that fateful night came and we knew it was time. They were professional and in only a few minutes they lead us into a room. They allowed us to say our final goodbyes and when we were ready there's a call button and the Dr came in to administer the 2 shots needed. Although it was devastating for us, Khloe left us peacefully with both of us there holding her and she gave us our final kisses on our face. We were called in a few days and picked up her ashes that were in an urn, a paw print and certificate of cremation. The total bill was a little steep (approx $650) since it was after hours and we choose to have only her ashes (as opposed to a mixture of remains if they cremate multiple animals this is done at another facility/company) but I knew of the cost prior and in retrospect it was 100% worth it to provide her last moments as stress-free as possible and with her family with her. The staff was helpful and caring and the Dr that performed it was professional. I really respect the staff as they must see devastated animal owners owners that need to go through this daily, I really am grateful for their compassion. Khloe Girl we love you! I know you're chasing all the sand crabs you want up on heaven;)

My golden retriever is 11yo and has a torn ACL. VCA would not sell me a splint to keep his leg immobilized. They would rather have my dog suffer than sell me a splint.

I do all my pet care at VCA. I trust in them. They are expensive but my pets deserve the best. They're family.

This company has all the equipment x-rays scanners and when my dog came in because she was lethargic all the blood test exams IV for three days and they still couldn't tell me what was wrong with her. I spent $5000 for three days finally took her home still wasn't well yet and the next day she POOPED out some sort of plastic and then I knew that she ate some plastic that made her very sick but all the x-rays and exams that VCA did on her they weren't able to see the plastic piece that was a size of 3-4 inches long? Instead they sent me a bill of $5000 for 3 days and as a pet owner we have no other choice but to pay it! VCA has All the expensive equipments but still they couldn't tell me that what was the cause or a problem with my dog I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone The good thing about VCA was the staff were caring and helpful!

Very disappointed. Called this hospital on Saturday for an emergency because my dog was very lethargic and not acting like herself, only to be told that they have no doctors available due to them being in surgery. Great reason! Only thing is, they didn't tell me to come at another time or even try to help me. They told me to call VCA Kapolei (all the VCA's told me to call Pearl city). I asked if they only had one doctor available and they said yes! I was frantic trying to look for a vet last minute. Lucky thing another vets office was able to see us and cancelled all their other appointments to do emergency surgery on my dog (pyometra). If she didn't get this surgery done asap, and if I waited any longer, she would have died! I just thought this VCA was an emergency hospital and didn't think they'd turn you away for an EMERGENCY!

My prior dog was a VCA patient at the Waimalu clinic, but our experience was not positive, so we transferred to another veterinarian. We have a new puppy and are visiting from out of state, and our regular vet had surgery and was unable to accept our dog for an emergency, so they directed us to the Waimalu clinic. I was cautious at first, but I put my furry babies' health ahead of my previous trauama experience. I am delighted to tell that Dr. Miyaski was the finest! She was meticulous, and her bedside approach was friendly and pleasant. She explained everything to us so we could understand what was wrong with our dog, and she recommended preventive and ongoing therapies. Dr. Miyazaki should be your primary care provider for your pet if you want someone to look out for their needs and care for them the way you do. We will surely pay her a visit if we are unable to attend our normal veterinarian here in Hawaii. Dr. Miyazaki, thank you for your talent and kindness while we were stressed after returning from a flight to Hawaii with our dog. You put us at ease and gave us the impression that our worries were being handled.

On my original review I cited good service, clean facilities & good Doctors but price was high! Well in retrospect it's like the old saying "you get what you pay for". These guys are worth every penny! Dr. Lam that did the surgery for our puppy was a Champ! Great care doesn't come cheap anywhere so I highly recommend VCA if your pet is in need of serious care!

The night veterinarian on staff along with his assistants were very helpful in stitching my dog after he was bitten by another dog. Thank you all!

The wait to get to the oncologist is long and they take there time calling back but when you get to see the Doctor she is nice and next level thorough. I've been seen here a few times and lately i've seen the prices be beyond unreasonable, it's pretty shameful. staff in the front were always very polite but when your not at the counter ppl hear you all talk, at-least i do, the ladies at the pet food counter have been amazing too. I know this is a national store but i wish your prices weren't outrageous, ppl know they can get shots and other stuff for a much lower price and receive the same care.

It's really unfortunate that Dr. Lucy Teddy is the only non-rotating oncologist on Oahu. Professions in cancer care demand compassion, expert opinion, and clear communication, none of which Dr. Teddy provided. Instead, we received conflicting and inconsistent care recommendations, constant hoops to jump through when we tried to follow up with care that was recommended by her, and antagonistic remarks towards us regarding our clarification and treatment needs. Dr. Teddy is cold and cautious in person - she seems unwilling or unable to give direct and clear recommendations out of a fear of being wrong. Instead of providing expertise and clarity on varied potential prognoses, she lists all the possibilities to cover her bases without providing the expertise and guidance we were looking for. It is unreasonable to be paying a "specialist" rate for the specialist to not provide clear recommendations based on expertise and tailored to our pet's medical history if I can find the same information online. She is also unwilling to pursue her own recommendations without further monthly excessive testing on our 13 yo cancer patient dog that we would just like palliative care for as we have exhausted every test and treatment option already. Given the fact she is the only non-rotating oncologist on the island, we were hoping for continuity of care, but had difficulty even getting responses when we had care questions (as they filter all calls through vet techs). VERC has rotating oncologists that are likely to be more compassionate and clear. On a more positive note, Dr. Lam performed a surgery on our 13 yo dog without complications. We are grateful for his surgical expertise and the clear communication he provided.

Great staff they listen and address any issues you may have. This is a busy location and rightfully so the service I and my pets received was worth the bustle!!! I will continue to visit the Pearl City location because of the great care we received. Not the cheapest in town but knowing they available 24 hours for any emergency means they are my first choice.

$$$ before care. Basically they couldn't find out why my dog was screaming in pain and not urinating even staying overnight paying big bucks! Went to pick her up and she peed" the entire room full! No joke it was seeping out into the hallways. Even after that, the Doc said they don't know what's going on! I took her home with no answer, no meds or results of anything. nothing but big bills and no answer. She died that night while screaming in pain. They're a freakin JOKE! As Veterinarians! You're pet will die while they smile charging you thousands.

I called the after hours emergency line and was assisted by a gentleman named Stacey. From the moment he answered, he was kind and patient. I was calling because I needed a vet who could assist with euthanasia for my daughter's dying rabbit. Stacey told me that there wasn't a doc on at the moment who could assist me, but that he would check with the doc coming on in a couple of hours and call me back. He called back exactly when he said he would and said they could help me. At first, I wasn't sure what to do because our rabbit looked comfortable and my daughter asked if her rabbit could die peacefully at home. I was not so sure if that was the right choice and asked Stacey for his advice. He told me I could take some time to decide and gave me some tips on what we should look out for to know whether or not we needed to come in right away. He was very patient, understanding and empathetic. Even though the clinic was very busy that's night, Stacey never made me feel rushed. Instead, I felt like he helped to walk us through a very delicate and difficult situation with the utmost care and compassion. Because of his help, my daughters rabbit was able to pass peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Without Stacey's assistance, I do not believe we would have had such a meaningful and memorable experience. Not sure what Stacey's position is, but he is amazing at what he does and the VCA is lucky to have him. Coming out of COVID, I have come across alot of rude individuals, so it was refreshing and heartwarming to encounter someone as kind as Stacey. Thank you for all you helped us through! The world needs more kind individuals like you!
