Husbands: this review is for you.So, you're in Hawaii on vacation and your wifey wants to visit... A garden? Yeah. Go visit, it'll be cool.Literally, like, even on a hot day, it's nice and cool. You walk down this neat little walkway in the 'rainforest' until you reach the bottom where there's plenty of shade and you get a nice cool breeze from the ocean.Oh... So you're bored? Well let me tell you about a game you can play: find the lizards ?They're everywhere. Like tons of them. On leaves. On benches. On stems. On the sidewalk. On the railings. You can find them, I believe in you. Best part is that your wifey will be in absolute awe in how much you are admiring the natural beauty of this garden, which is true! You're just admiring the lizards.I even took some photos of the lizards, if you would like a preview of what you can look forward to. Now, I'm not really a lizard guy myself, more of a turtle guy, but this was legit.Oh, I did see one cool flower that was nice, so I took a picture of that for my wifey too.Come for the lizards, stay for your wifey.

I've been taking my family here for many years and it's an awesome place. In the past, they used to provide umbrellas for use while strolling the gardens, but when we went last week they'd gotten rid of them and now only offer expensive umbrellas for sale. In my opinion, this is pretty "un-pono" - when it rains there you can plan on getting absolutely soaked regardless of how good your rain gear is. The fact that they don't provide umbrellas anymore seems pretty lame to me - it's a minor business expense and just good mojo. Having customers get soaked because they didn't bring enough umbrellas to go around is pretty lame. So be warned - bring an umbrella or plan on getting seriously drenched if it rains. HTBG - seriously, what's the deal? Bring back the umbrellas.

Beautiful grounds, worth the entrance cost to experience. Closes at 5pm but they only take visitors until 4pm. We were there a little after 3pm and kept to the right on all paths. This was a fun strategy because we ended with the waterfall and ferns. Absolutely loved the peace and beauty.

Such a beautiful stroll. Don't let the $30pp entry fee deter you. The short scenic drive on the old highway and beautiful walk through the jungle gardens is spectacular and worth the fee. Some uphill walking required, but paths are well maintained and have boardwalks installed for steep sections. It would be a shame to be in the Hilo area and not take this in.

December 2023 - We put this place on our itinerary based on everything I had read. It far surpassed whatever expectations we had. My wife loves orchids, so we spent an excessive amount of time in Orchidland. Needless to say, the entire place was amazing! Every other Botanical Center that we have visited paled in comparison to this one.

Beautiful place with terrible customer service. The rude lady at the ticket booth pretty much ruined the rest of the experience for me.Had it not been for her, it would have been a beautiful and memorable experience. Gardens are gorgeous.

Beautiful gardens, but WATCH OUT for the hike out! Take plenty of water with you, there aren't places inside the gardens to refill a bottle.Absolutely gorgeous place with tons of history, beautiful waterfalls and views of the ocean and nearby cliffs. Incredible variety of plantings and gardens, from manicured orchids to swamp plantings and koi ponds.
