Elegant rooms on what is likely the most beautiful beach on the planet. Kaanapali Beach is amazing. The Alii has a beautiful pool right on the beach. Definitely our favorite spot on Maui.

The staff...we had 4 men bang on the door at 5pm one night bc there was a leak from our place to the place below (ok, fine i get it), They said we'd have to move rooms or stay with just the 2nd (small) bathroom able to use. We asked when we would be able to move; they had no answer. We missed dinner reservations b/c they were in the room so long. WE then had to approach front desk, they said we'd have to talk to a manager the next day, I asked him to call me...he NEVER did. We missed doing the Road to Hana b/c we were waiting for the manager to get us a new room and talk about if any compensation would occur.
We went to the front desk multiple more times, finally they gave us a room to change into, but still no call from the manager or info on any compensation. when we returned to the new room our key didn't work, so had to go to front desk AGAIN and still nothing from the manager. Finally after a couple days he called me and I asked for some compensation. He said he would see what he could do and call me back....we left 3 days later and still have not heard anything from him!
We understand things happen, but the level of unorganization and amount of times WE had to approach staff to get the problem solved was absurd. Nobody wants to waste their time in Hawaii chasing down staff to get them a new room with the 2 bathrooms we paid for.
How could this have been handled better?: when maintenance barged into the room, they could've called front desk to speak to us and let us know what solution they had (which room we could have, what time we could move in...). Had it happened like this we wouldn't have even cared about compensation, but instead nobody had an answer for more than 24 hours and the manager took zero responsibility or initiative to handle the problem.
Walkability: many restaurants and stores to walk to

Initially booked a condo at Alii via VRBO. That condo was not clean and smelled musty. We immediately cancelled the VRBO condo and were able to book a condo directly through Alii. Our condo was clean, spacious and beautiful. Pool never ever seemed to be crowded, but the ocean is right there! Staff are friendly and helpful.

From the moment I arrived at Kaanapali Alii Resort, I knew I was in for something special. Nestled on the shores of Maui's famed Kaanapali Beach, this resort is truly a gem that offers the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and natural beauty.
The location of Kaanapali Alii is simply unbeatable. It’s situated right on the golden sands of Kaanapali Beach, where the sound of the waves and the gentle breeze instantly lull you into a state of relaxation. The beach itself is pristine, with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking up the sun. Being so close to Whalers Village and a short drive from Lahaina made it easy to explore the area, yet the resort's serene atmosphere made it feel like a secluded paradise.
The accommodations at Kaanapali Alii exceeded all my expectations. My suite was not just a room — it was a home away from home. Spacious, immaculately clean, and beautifully decorated, it offered all the amenities I could have asked for and more. The full kitchen was well-equipped, making it easy to prepare a meal when I wanted to stay in, but with so many dining options nearby, I was equally tempted to explore the local cuisine.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, providing the best sleep I’ve had in years, and waking up to the breathtaking views of the ocean was a dream come true. The living area was perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure, and the private lanai offered stunning sunset views that I’ll never forget.
Kaanapali Alii’s amenities are top-notch. The pool area is beautifully designed, offering both family-friendly areas and quiet zones for those seeking a more peaceful experience. I particularly enjoyed the beachfront cabanas — perfect for lounging the day away with a good book or just taking in the views. The fitness center was well-equipped, and the tennis courts were a fun way to stay active during my stay.
One of the highlights was the barbecue areas. The resort provides high-quality grills in a beautifully landscaped setting, where I enjoyed cooking fresh local fish and dining under the stars. The friendly and helpful staff made sure everything was spotless and ready for use at all times.
The service at Kaanapali Alii was exceptional from start to finish. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to ensuring that my stay was nothing short of perfect. Whether it was the front desk team, the housekeeping staff, or the activity coordinators, everyone went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. It’s clear that they take great pride in what they do, and it really shows in the level of service they provide.
What truly set my stay at Kaanapali Alii apart was the overall experience. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I felt a sense of peace and relaxation that I’ve rarely encountered elsewhere. The combination of luxurious accommodations, stunning natural surroundings, and warm, attentive service made this stay one for the books.
Whether I was lounging by the pool, strolling along the beach, or exploring the local area, every moment was pure bliss. The resort perfectly balances the convenience of a full-service property with the tranquility of a private retreat. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and indulge in a truly unforgettable Hawaiian getaway.
My stay at Kaanapali Alii was nothing short of magical. It’s rare to find a place that not only meets but exceeds every expectation, and this resort did just that. If you’re looking for a luxurious, relaxing, and unforgettable stay in Maui, look no further than Kaanapali Alii. I can’t wait to return to this little slice of paradise and create even more wonderful memories.
Highly, highly recommended!

We loved our 6th floor unit. Beautiful views of the ocean and palm trees. Clean unit with pool/beach towels, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, trash bags and cooking spices. All the things you’d need for the week. There are beach chairs, boogie boards and coolers too. The beach access is awesome. It’s very toddler friendly. The grounds are beautiful too. Nice clean pool too! Very friendly staff!

Absolutely beautiful location and a 1 minute walk to the beach! The staff were all very kind. Special shout out to the gentlemen working late night security who showed us to our room after our flights were delayed and we got in super late. They were awesome!

Sugar Beach Resort on Maui was wonderful. Couldn’t find beach towels and the service immediately brought some, no questions asked. Found them later ??. Beautiful location right on the beach. Clean and friendly. Mahalo!?

Overall poor experience at Kaanapali Alii. We will not be returning. The condition of the apartment you get is a crap shoot as each one is individually owned. We saw two apartments and both were very outdated. Appliances are old. We had a broken freezer that barely worked, and they couldn’t do anything about it. They only offered another apartment in the same price category which was significantly worse than the one we had, so we declined it. Our WiFi router stopped working and it took them 24 hours to replace it. I had a very unfortunate interaction with a member of staff on the beach who aggressively and rudely confronted me about the beach umbrellas which are $60/day to rent even though beach chairs are free for guests and there are no signs on the beach mentioning that umbrellas need to be rented. At check in, the person at the front desk provided zero information about the resort. The main pool was filthy throughout our one week stay. It’s clearly not being properly cleaned or filtered. It’s so murky that you can barely see the bottom of the pool. I mentioned this to a member of staff and he blamed it on sunscreen, which isn’t a credible excuse. The pool at the Westin next door doesn’t look murky at all. At least half of the gas grills have broken burners. We had booked a “garden view” room and instead had a fantastic view of the parking lot. Other than the convenient location, this resort is not worth your time and money. It’s desperately in need of a massive renovation, and the staff need to be better trained.
Rooms: Very outdated
