Whalers General Store is a well-stocked, clean store very close to Poipu Beach, within easy walking distance. It is the only place nearby that sells groceries, beer, and a bunch of other standard items. The store has tons of souvenirs to choose from and carries apparel, snacks, and ready-made foods like fruit bowls, salads, and bento bowls. It offers a large selection and high quality. The store is expensive, with much higher prices than some others, which is attributed to its proximity to many high-end resorts; customers pay a premium for convenience. However, visitors can find good value in the mornings by looking for food and snacks marked down 50%, making it the cheapest meal in the area. A helpful tip is to heat up bento bowls before leaving the store. Customer experiences with staff can vary. Some visitors find the cashiers very nice and helpful, with one noting a cashier absolutely made their day. Other experiences have been less positive, with reports of a cashier being rude and belligerent or making interactions feel awkward and unwelcoming. Despite this, the store remains highly recommended by many for its location and selection.
