Great experience from start to finish! Big Kahuna staff was knowledgeable, friendly and made our first time surfers feel at ease. The location in Kihei is perfect for beginners, small waves and shallow enough so they can stand. And the photos are the best souvenir of our trip! Highly recommend!

So glad that we had this AMAZING experience! We were a little unsure if our family wanted to take surfing lessons, but we ALL agree this was one of our favorite things we did on our trip in Maui. David our instructor did a great job at teaching us all to be successful surfers. He also made sure we got the most out of our time, riding as many waves as possible! My son struggled a little at first, but David was wonderful working with him and by the end my son felt very confident. My daughter caught on quicker and David gave her a few more challenges to keep her excited. The whole crew really made us feel comfortable and wanted us to have the best experience. Was also very pleased with the smaller group sizes and the area they chose to have us surf. Another company was doing lessons just down from us but had very large groups and less space to work. If we come back we will 100% book this again.

This surf lesson was a birthday gift to my 13 year old nephew. As a competitive swimmer, he is very comfortable in the water but had never tried surfing. Thanks to awesome instruction, he caught the second wave and surfed throughout the rest of the lesson. Sevy created a fun and instructive lesson that was highly effective. Thank you for making his birthday one to remember!

we introduced our two boys, 12 & 9, to surfing with this company - what an awesome experience! our instructor was knowledgeable, great with the kids, and fun! the whole operation was well organized and made sure we got plenty of waves (plus bonus sea turtle spotting!). we would definitely recommend Big Kahuna Adventures to new surfers! Additionally, their photography was taken by John & Leilani with Maui Dream Photography - excellent work and we have priceless photos to commemorate the day! Thank you!

These guys are AMAZING! All about getting everyone comfortable on the board, helping you get up to catch waves, and having the best time out on the water.Bryan, our instructor, had our 14yr laughing, catching and riding waves, while putting a huge smile on his face. Rory took amazing pictures all while giving us pointers to help us make get up on the waves.All the instructors in the water were amazing and cheering for every person out on the water.Highly recommend Big Kahuna Adventures! Mahalo!

David was very patient and encouraging. My boys had a great time and said they would do it again if they could have David as the instructor. The manager took very good care of us, and I was very impressed from start to finish with this experience.

EDIT: The owner of the company has since issued me a full refund and apologized for the undelivered surf lesson.I booked a $100 surf lesson with them on Aug 19 2022 and the instructors never showed up. I arrived at the meet up point on time and waited for 30 minutes for someone to arrive. I searched the entire park, the beach, and the surf shops across the street and was told that surf companies usually set up in the parking lot where I was waiting so I know I was in the right spot.I tried calling their office twice on the day of the lesson but there was no answer and their mailbox was full so I couldn't leave a message. The day after the lesson I received an automated email asking how my experience was and to leave a review, so clearly they were not tracking who attended the class.I have since emailed them twice via their website contact page asking for a refund and have received no response and no refund. So now I am forced to leave this review.This was my last day of holiday before flying home and it was such a sad way to end off an otherwise amazing trip.

Didn't actually rent from them but I did call them with a few questions. The guy who picked up was very friendly and patient with me (even when I started asking him questions about Maui in general).

Jesse is a really great instructor for first time surfers. My wife, who kept eating it, was surfing by the end. Jesse takes time to work with each individual, pointing out how they can improve with each attempt. 10/10 would come back again

Great experience, waves were awesome, nice long and fun rides. Jessie and Johnny made the experience so much better and we really had a great time surfing with them, definitely recommend.

Really nice guys who work behind the counter. Rented 2 long boards. It was really simple and quick. Reasonably priced as well with a convenient location.

The highlight of our trip! This was our first trip to Maui and my 10 year old twins just loved surfing with Jesse. We went for one lesson and ended up doing many more. Jesse is a fantastic mix of teacher, cheerleader and playmate. We were just out there having fun and Jesse made sure we got the best of it. There are lot's of surf shops on this beach but I doubt any of them are as good as this one. Thanks Big Kahuna & Jesse for making our holiday such a memorable one.

Our daughters had Jessie for the 10:00 lesson on Saturday. He was a calm and gentle instructor! Both of our girls caught many waves and we're extremely happy with the experience. Highly recommend it.

Brian gave an amazing semi-private lesson to my kids (10 and 14) and I. All of us rode tons of waves and had a great morning. I couldn’t have asked for more.
