A 3* but a solid 3 *. Booked through Castle Resorts who were great to work with and booked room 217, a 2 bed/2 bath condo and wrap around lanai, with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Molokai doesn't have many accommodation choices and you have to remember this isn't Lanai! Expect rustic and true Hawaiian. It probably wasn't such a shock to us as we live on Maui and rogue wild roosters crow all through the night where we live too. I was annoyed that there was a loud drunken group yahooing at 1am who proceeded to blare their horns on departure, but it was only 1 night, the other night was quiet. We did have a cockroach in the bathroom, but again, this is Hawaii, we have them occasionally in our house too. That was what slippahs were invented for! The thing that did get me was the cleanliness of the kitchen, or rather lack thereof. That is not a typical Hawaiian thing, and the kitchen was dirty and needed a good deep clean. No chopping board meant we had to chop on plates, the knives were blunt, no extra garbage bags, but there were about 17 pans....lol. There were supposed to be 2 x beach chairs too but none which was a pain. 217 is also road side of the condos, you might be better off on the other side of the condo. They also sting you for a $20 check in fee that wasn't communicated to us during our booking. Ceiling fans and no A/C (we are used to that on Maui at home too so no complaints). However, having said all that, the view was lovely, the condo a great space for 2 couples for a weekend break, Kamaaina rates available, the small pool was cool after a hot afternoon, the beach was nice to walk along (not swimmable as shallow and murky), there are bbqs all over, the grounds were immaculate and sunset was fantastic. Coffee and sunrise on the lanai in the early morning quiet was perfect (tap water is drinkable). Plus it is a great base to access the rest of the island from. Molokai Shores is much of a muchness with other accommodation available so pick your room carefully and you should be OK, expect island style not resort style ;)

Rooms are nice size and on the beach. Only complaint was the dead mouse and cockroaches in the drawers of kitchen. Totally understand that they are here, but looked like they didn't clean several days if not weeks prior to our stay. Didn't complain due to atmosphere of locals not caring for tourists, so didn't think it would do any good.Rooms: Rooms are nice size, just didnt clean our dead mouse and cockroaches inside.

My room was great. I've been told by coworkers there rooms were not great. I guess it's hit and miss. One thing. No air-conditioning. I was very comfortable with just the open windows and ceiling fan but it also wasn't hot at night during my stay. Ymmv.

We stayed here with friends for a week in February 2023. The unit was on the second floor at the end nearest the vacant lots to the east. The unit was a bit tired but everything worked fine, although the couch cushions in the living room need replacement. There is a laundry room and you can get change at the manager's office. The view from the lanai was to the southwest over the gardens and pool, and allowed for a perfect view of the stupendous sunsets. We could also watch whales breaching just beyond the reef, and must have seen two dozen breaches in our time there. The barbecues were fairly new and seemed to work once you figured out how to set the dials. The pool and pool equipment was clean but the pool itself was cold. There is not much of a beach here but you can wade out into the lagoon or borrow a kayak and paddle out to the reef. There is however, not much to see in terms of fishes, just lots of little feed fishes and an occasional trout sized fish. To the east is a large abandoned lot fronting a well maintained Hawaiian fish pond. The grounds of the resort were well maintained, and there were many chickens (be prepared for the roosters crowing), doves, sparrows and red cardinals. Other than the roosters and doves, the place was relatively quiet and relaxing.

Don't waste your vacation on this place or this island. The whole place is a dump. Would have been nicer camping with the homeless in

Quiet, beautiful and friendly resort! Can’t swim on its own beach because of muddy water, but the view is stunning!

Management was rude and confrontational. These attitudes are not uncommon on Molokai but I would have expected them to keep it in check at a place of business, one that is ostensibly geared towards tourists.

Nice location, unfortunately the unit needs some maintenance and upkeep. The shower drain grill wasn't attached to the floor, and the furniture is completely worn out and due for replacement.Keep in mind, there is no A/C, but the sea breezes are great.

Location was very convenient to other places on the island. Near the beach. The grounds were very well kept. Pool was cleaned daily. Nice view of the beach

You need to know which unit. There are dumpy units and beautiful units. C229 was awful. After staying overnight with stench smell of molds and roach killer, thankfully the unit above leaked the soiled water from the bathroom and made gaping hole on the ceiling. We complained to the management and was transferred to B217, absolutely gorgeous unit. We learned the lesson not ever to assume all units were alike. Please read all reviews from Trip Advisor before determining which unit you want to rent. I don’t know how much the management know the detail of each unit. If not satisfied, call. They might not answer the phone, but will call back.

It is what it is! Nothing great about this place! But there aren't many choices to stay at on the island. If you have a few extra dollars, spend the money somewhere else. The place needed to be updated back in the 90s.

We were assigned to C229. I walked into smell of molds in bathroom and roach killer spray in the kitchen. I immediately became dizzy and started to have headaches. Despite that we stayed overnight. The next morning, the unit above, must be C329, the guest started to take shower at 6:30am, and water started to drip onto our bathroom. It created the gaping hole on our ceiling. We called the unit manager at 8am and she got back to us to say we can be transferred to B217. Around 1pm, we switched to B217, it was night and day difference. The unit was meticulously cleaned and all the furniture was functional. I forgot to say C229’s furniture was old and dated, too much dust to sit. Outdoor furniture had many spots of paint and felt bad that was the only chair I can sit on. Anyhow, C229 should be taken out of commission. The landscaping was nice, but it’s most important the guests should be comfortable staying. Not sure how much the management knows good and bad of each unit. I can understand why there are 21 terrible reviews. Please choose your unit carefully.

My wife and went to Molokai for our honeymoon/ 1st anniversary, so I ordered flowers to be delivered just before we arrived. We had some travel issues that pushed our arrival day back to the next day, but I couldn't remember what florist I ordered from, so I called every florist listed on google. But no luck. We arrived, and there were no flowers... I was bummed I wasn't able to surprise her when we arrived. Did we miss them? Were they taken? Maybe they were left at the front desk? Nope, the front desk was closed on Sundays. We had late night flight in to Honolulu, and an early flight in to Molokai, so we were exhausted, and wanted to take a shower. So when we arrived My wife jumped in first, while I unpacked. *knock knock knock*Opened the door and there were the most beautiful flowers I've ever seen. I was still able to surprise my wife! I wanted to hug the delivery person. Thank you!

Peaceful views from all the lanais towards the ocean, some 3rd floor units have bedroom lofts, full time residents are friendly, this is not a swim beach nor good for sunbathing but excellent put in for a kayak or SUP. The pool was super cold when I stayed here and that's not a jacuzzi in the photos just a small wading pool for kids. There is shuffleboard and a 3 hole golf putting mound!
