Nestled amidst the lush windward landscape, the Byodo-In Temple stands as an oasis, a replica of the 950-year-old Byodoin Temple in Uji, Japan. Yet, unlike the quietude of its ancient counterpart, this temple hums with the energy of its numerous visitors. As I walked through the verdant gardens, the air was vibrant with the mingling scents of tropical flowers and the earthy musk of the pond's koi and black swan. The fiery red of the temple's intricate structure reflected in the calm pond, the golden hues of the Buddha statue casting a warm glow, and the verdant green of the trees whispering stories of old. However, tranquility was often overpowered by the cacophony of the crowd. The temple bell, intended for a soft call to mindfulness, rang out with a fervor that bordered on the theatrical, as if announcing the start of a circus show. It's a jarring contrast to the intended peace, transforming what should be a meditative experience into a spectacle of sorts.Despite the din, there were moments of serenity to be found. In a quiet corner, omikuji fortunes fluttered in the wind, tied to the branches of a sacred tree, their silent prayers undisturbed. A cat basked in a patch of sunlight, a living embodiment of contentment amidst the chaos. In these pockets of calm, the true spirit of Byodo-In could be felt. It's a place that beckons the soul to seek stillness, even when the world around is anything but. And so, my review is twofold: come for the beauty, the culture, and the history, but be prepared for the crowds that turn solitude to spectacle.

Magical and spiritual place, you can feel the peace once you arrive, the day I went it was raining a little bit and cloudy which it gives our visit a different atmosphere that I also enjoyed hahahhahaha.I recommend buying the tickets in advance before you arrive just in case. You can also get them there, but through the website, you can also see availability just in case.

This is one of the beautiful Buddhist temple in the world I felt. This place is surreal the mountains valley touching the clouds. It really feels like heaven. You don’t need reservations for this place, enough parking and rest rooms available.Entry fee $5 can be paid at the booth at the entrance. If you are in Honolulu do not miss this place, your Hawaii trip is unfinished if you miss this place. This is a must do thing in Honolulu, Hawaii visit.

There's nothing much to see in this Temple. It's just a commercial business. There's only a big Bell outside and inside a big Buddha Statue to see. Nothing else. Restroom is filthy. Surrounding is just a cemetery. It takes lest than 5 mins to walk around. It charges $5/person for the entry. Don't waste your money. I would not recommend.

This is such a beautiful & peaceful place. I love coming here. The staff is friendly and super knowledgeable. The front desk guys are great, always have a smile on their face. Ask for Helena to show you around the back of the temple for a secret tour. It’s amazing and she’s awesome!

Serene, peaceful and spiritual place with goldfish, a black swan and birds habit in this space. Fish food available in the gift shop. A good time for my toddler to feed fish and birds.

I recommend a visit to this place. Contemplative and well-groomed. The Buddha statue is impressive. Very interesting fauna and flora. Good place for children.

To get to the temple, we had to pass by tombstones and memorial lots so I had this eerie feeling, but at the same time in awe because the place is truly enchanting!!! I saw visitors coming by the truckload, aside from visitors travelling in private. I didn't go inside the temple but to appreciate it from afar is already magical. 4 stars because it is not free to enter the temple.
