An ancient Hawaiian fishpond that was built 800 years ago and recently restored about 20 years ago. The very few traditional fishponds left. The staff were extremely passionate in the work they do and restoring Hawaiian culture and educating the public. If you're visiting, you can either do an educational tour or volunteer on their community days. Do not expect to purchase fish commercially here as it is mostly still in restorative process so the fishpond is mostly educational. I recommend that you consider coming here if you're interested to learn about sustainable fishing in Hawaii. We had Keli'i, the co-founder and Assistant CEO guiding us and he's a great speaker. Mahalo team!

Our school came to work to clean the fishpond area and to plant more vegetation. Hard work, but very rewarding for me. I am so proud to say that I'm kanaka maoli.

Looking for some volunteer work. Then check out Paepae o He'eia, and help remove the jelly fish from the fishpond.

1st time fishing in years thanks to getting a ticket for the occasional public fishing. Only caught a couple of released fish but being outdoors with lots of space between fishing groups, the well organized orientation, the views, and the gorgeous weather could not be beat. So grateful to the Paepae o He'eia staff and volunteers!

My wife always wanted to see the Heeia fishpond up close and we were considering making an appointment through their website for a private tour. I ran into an old friend at a Farmer's market and was told that his son worked there and today (Sat.) was a good time to visit. Paepae O Heeia is a hidden gem that is a fully functional fishpond thanks to the enormous effort of the volunteers. We found our way down to the fishpond and was greeted by a volunteer who gave us some information and had us sign in and said that we were free to roam around. When you actually walk around the fishpond you see how huge it is and then you have an appreciation on the enormous effort it must have been to restore this cultural site. I've signed up for the Samoan crab sale on their website but was told that all you have to do is to get to the Kaneohe Farmer's market by 8:00 AM when you get notified via email. They said to get there early because the 10-20 crabs they sell run out fast. The fishpond is definitely worth seeking out.

This is a must see. They have restored the wall it looks amazing. Great for educational school trips or just to explore for yourself. If you want to volunteer to work or contribute this is where to do it.

The Paepae gang do so much for our community. They have dedicated themselves to educating students and community members on how to manage the coastal resources for current and future generations. SUPPORT PAEPAE O HE'EIA!
