wow! what a special place! everyone who helped me out was charming, knowledgeable, and kind. they shared the names of plants in olelo hawaii too, which i appreciate. they had a magical selection of native plants at really friendly prices. i feel it is so important to continue to protect and cultivate the native plants here on the islands and i was so delighted to find a plant nursery this side of the island in my family’s neighborhood. lucky for me it’s only a five minute drive away! but DEF worth a drive if you’re not nearby! again, the prices were great for what you’re getting. this is such a valuable resource and not to be missed if you are a gardener or landscaper, or if you’re just looking to add more beauty to your home while also supporting the native ecosystem here. thank you to everyone at hui ku maoli ola! keep doing what you’re doing!

An amazing experience every time I go. Endemic plants are so incredible. It's unfortunate that there are so many invasive plants hurting your beautiful islands. These guys inspire me to do better. Save the islands by being part of the solution. Not part of the problem.

They may be good at plants but their business practices lack integrity. If you're ever asked to work with Mahina Kahalewale, run. She has no integrity. They hired us to support their business in 2021. We have honorably conducted all required actions but Mahina Kahalewale refused to pay us as required. Don't trust her.

Nice spot and lots of plants, but Jeeze! The one female staff was not polite at all. I think her name was Lehua? Or Leinani? She talked to us like we were completely dumb for not understanding where to automatically go/park. It's not like there's an obvious parking area and there is no sign other than the one outside out on the street. It is clear that her strengths are just caring for the plants and not having any human interaction. Very unprofessional. On a few occasions, I've corresponded with whoever manages their Instagram and they seem to be very knowledgeable, quick, and polite! It's a beautiful spot and lots of native plants--but be prepared for the major attitude.

Great place to look for native Hawaiian plants. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff.Had some trouble finding the place using Google Maps. First tried by the address and drove by it without noticing it. After changing to finding by the business name, I was able to get there.

Knowledgeable, friendly, and kind people running the nursery. Highly recommend even just to learn more about native plants. Thank you for the beautiful O’hia.

Best place for endemic and indigenous plants!! Knowledgeable and helpful staff assisted me three different visits to choose plants that would suit the location I needed filled in my yard. The prices can't be beat and the health of the plants and trees are far better than any box store. I'm a repeat customer.

I live part-time in Hilo and on the mainland. I visit this place once or twice a year. There are a few problems with this place; first, I look like a white guy, but I'm primarily Hawaiian, and they just never seemed that friendly; I've always got the sense that it's because I look colonial. The next issue is they paint the picture that the native plants belong to Hawaiians when they DON’T! They don't belong to anyone; the native plants of Hawaii, like anywhere else, were there long before any Humans showed up. They belong to the place, not the people. I agree that it's essential to landscape with, propagate, and preserve the unique and beautiful flora of the islands, especially with so many endangered plants. Learning the Latin and Hawaiian names of the plants is essential, and you should do your homework before you go, as they will condescendingly correct you if you mispronounce something. All things considered, it’s a great place to visit that is doing important work; just know what you’re in for before you go.

The staff was totally unfriendly and almost every plant they had was sold according to the unfriendly woman who works there. I think the people who work here are a bad representation of what a nursery that sells native Hawaiian plants should show- Aloha! Sorry but customer service plays a big part in what your company should portray when wanting to sell plants. I work at a hotel and was looking for some new foliage for our grounds but I will not be going to these people for it!

If you need Ohia Lehua keiki plants, this is the place to shop! My sister and I got two plants - one with red flowers and one with orange flowers. They aren't blooming yet, but they will! Rueben was very helpful and friendly! He will help you with all of the plants that are available!

Shopping for Mother's Day... What do you give to the woman who carried you for nine months in her own body and brought you into this world? I don't know about you, but I am forever in debt to my mom. I just want her to be happy... and her garden is her Happy Place! My plan was to take her to this nursery in Kaneohe which specializes in Native Hawaiian plants. However, it wasn't open on Sunday and she felt tired on Monday, so, I had to select Ohia Lehua plants for her. I read reviews about Hui Ku Maoli Ola Native Hawaiian Plant Specialists and called first to make sure that they had Ohia Lehua plants. Yes! I drove along Haiku Road, past Haleiwa Joe's, towards the elementary school and the Ko'olau Mountain Range. It's a scenic drive - even when it's overcast and drizzling. Those ominous gray clouds were not going to stop me from achieving my goal! When I arrived, I parked where I wasn't blocking anyone. I had read that the paths might be muddy, but I'm okay with that. Rueben was a big help to me. After I found the Ohia Lehua, he identified the orange and red varieties. He pointed out that some plants were mislabeled and asked which area will the plants grow? I answered: Nu'uanu. He said that they should have no problem there. I looked for the plants with the largest stems and most branches! Haha! Payment by credit card was efficient and thorough. Rueben entered my name and phone number into their system for future reference. I told him that I will probably be back next month and bring mom for her birthday! When I took the plants to mom's house, the look on her face was priceless! I showed her that the taller plant will have red flowers and the wider plant is the rarer orange flowering plant. She was beaming and speechless! #missionaccomplished Thanks to Rueben and the staff of Hui La Maoli Ola Native Hawaiian Plant Specialists for making my mom's wishes come true!

If you are looking for a Hawaiian plant this is an excellent place to start. The workers here are very knowledgeable and take the time to answer questions that you might have. I needed a plant for a lāau lapaau class that I'm taking and they had a great selection that was perfect for what I needed. The worker that helped us was able to answer the many questions that we had which was great such as how often to water, when and how should we repot it, what is the best way to care for it, etc. Also the process for paying was very simple and fast. Definitely will be back again!
