We have been going to H&R for 7+ years. Brain has always done our taxes and even fixed it for free when there was a problem. Well Brain is no longer there. We thought because they have insurance it would be ok. So we proceed to make an appointment. We saw their senior advisor, Henry. We sat down and asked a few tax questions. Which he proceeded to advise me to seek the answer elsewhere. He also said that customers where giving him "pressure". That should of been my first clue. I figured let's try asking him easy questions; like the maximum refund policy for H&R. When he said I retire next year and couldn't explain their policy, we decided to leave. I hope our experience can help others. Maybe another location and Tax professional might be better. We also tried calling another location. We explained what happened they tried to accommodate. We had to call about 6 times to get someone on the phone. Do not recommend!!!

Underwhelming service, deceptive fees quoted, you have to pull teeth with your "tax pro" and go over their work with a five tooth comb or you'll need to submit an amendment later to get it done right.Fees: the $80 to file federal is only if you are single with only a W2. Imagine that any other person (spouse, kids) multiplies that amount, and then any additional form or box they may need to check is going to keep jumping it up by dollars per box. We're typically charged $100 for full tax pro services (married filing jointly with two "it's complicated" kids). After being quoted $80 to file despite mentioning my family, they wanted to charge me over $260 to file federal.Service: We typically use a tax pro when we have significant life events, just to ensure we're not missing any major tax changes associated with them. Despite naming these situations/events/concerns before even uploading a W2, and asking multiple times if there was any additional documentation we needed to submit, major portions were omitted from the "final" review they briefed us on.Absolutely a waste of time and money. You'll get better service if you use one of the programs online that walk you through it than having to redo your "tax pro's" work at this place.

I appreciated the time Brian Nakahara took to explain the reasons for the increase in my federal taxes due this year now that I am a widow and no longer have my dependent deductions from my disabled husband. He also gave me excellent advice about increasing the additional amount I have deducted each payroll so I will have paid all my Federal for next year instead of owing as was the case this year. He also gave me good advice about requesting the federal tax be taken out of each of the pensions I am receiving that increased my federal tax bill this year. I appreciated the advice moving forward. Brian came highly recommended to me by my best friend, Bernie Baker in the same building I live in in Kailua. She also recommended another friend from Mahjong, Jan Choulijian, from our building, another mahjong friend, who also had an excellent experience working with Brian Nakahara.

I have done my taxes with a private tax professional, online on my own and with other H&R Block professionals. Brian Nakahara surpassed any and all experiences and expectations I ever had. He went above and beyond while preparing my taxes. He explained the whole process and also gave me tips on how I should better save money for my future. I feel like every other interaction has been get in get out but I felt Brian really cared. Thank you! I will be back next year!
