Rock Star Pet Supplies & Gifts
75-5722 Hanama Pl Suite 1100, Kailua-KonaI stumbled upon Rockstar Pets while at a birthday party with my kids at Fun Factory, and I'm so glad we did! It's conveniently located just a few doors down, making it easy to pop in. The store is fantastic—full of super cute accessories for our dogs that we couldn't resist. We also found some great treats that our pups absolutely love. The staff was friendly and helpful, making the whole experience even better. This locally owned pet store is a gem, and we'll definitely be back! (Amanda Hurtado)

Doggy Detail
74-5599 Luhia St D-6, Kailua-KonaI’ve never had a better groomer! She’s meticulous in her care of Maggie and if she spots anything that may be of concern, she’ll let you know! Maggie looks so adorable after she’s been groomed. I’ve recommended Dani often to my friends and especially to those that are new to the area.

Ocean Paws Pet Grooming Salon
76-6831 Ali'i Drive, Suite B-109, Kailua-KonaWe took our senior Shiba to Ocean Paws for a nail trim and were so pleasantly surprised how great it was! We always dread these trips to our vet because our pup gets so scared. He did great with Teresa! She is so kind and did a fabulous job on his trim! I don’t think anyone has ever trimmed him so well. You can tell she loves dogs! We have our other 2 Shibas scheduled for a trim too! We would recommend this salon to everyone!

Pet Medical Center
74-5565 Luhia St # C3, Kailua-KonaI am really overjoyed with Dr. Kawamoto. I agree he has very poor people skills but I was there for my pet. I have a small parrot and desperately needed a vet. There are No vets that treat birds. I called all the vets listed in the area and he was the only one who scheduled an appointment. He treated Raku very gently, kept talking to him making sure he wasn't overly excited. Didn't rush through the procedures. I was able to watch it all and I saw that his entire focus was on my pet. So what he didn't need to talk to me, he focused on my pet and his problem. I will be scheduling my future appoints at Pet Medical Center. I went across the island to Hilo in December to a vet who basically did nothing to trim the beak and charged me more than Pet Medical. I read all the previous reviews and I was prepared to get exactly what they said. No people skills but wonderful and excellent veterinary skills. Carol C. Kona

Dr. Elizabeth Jose
75-349 Hualalai Rd, Kailua-KonaI was told by my regular vet that my Toy schnauzer, Ziggy, had a heart murmur and needed to see a Cardiologist before being able to go under anesthesia for teeth cleaning, since a heart murmur was detected. I was referred to Dr. Deborah Fine at Alii Veterinary. She was patient, kind, knowledgeable, thorough and took time to answer our many questions. We were very impressed with her knowledge, expertise and caring. I wish our sweet dog didn't have heart issues, but are thankful that Dr. Fine is on Island to help us.

KONA DOGGIE DAYCARE & SPA
74-5467 Kaiwi St #1-4B, Kailua-KonaIf we could give more than 5 STARS we would! What a relief to find Bruce and his loving home. Our main concern moving to the islands was finding a place for our sweet, people-shy, anxious pup. Bruce is so patient with our Ruby and truly takes the time to know her. The spirit of this place is calm and inviting. His son Harry adds so much to the care of the pups as well. Bruce has a true talent for understanding dogs and their humans.

AkonaPet Pet Relocation Service
Princess Keelikolani Dr, Kailua-KonaWish I could give 5 stars but a few hiccups:- Communication probably could have been a little better, timely, or reply sooner. I only had one point of contact, Ms. Ruth. I tried to be considerate of maybe their workflow, maybe they can make a follow-up schedule to reply back more timelier. I would just request a better follow-up workflow. Do your part as a customer to make sure you follow-up and ask for statuses if you feel like you're waiting too long. I had to ask for follow-u statuses a few times if I was waiting too long. Friendliness of Ms. Ruth's costumer service and her assistance was still worth everything. Sweet lady.- I bought a medium size crate that I ended up not using and it was non-refundable. Miscommunication on some parts and partially could've been me. In the beginning I didn't mention my dog is an ESA. My understanding from verbal instructions at the time was if my pet is an ESA, I still had to buy a crate and he would be an inflight cabin. Maybe I don't understand inflight cabin. I provided a document mentioning my dog is an ESA, I wish I was told in the beginning I did not need the crate when I was receiving additional instructions for ESA documents. Two weeks before my flight, Ms. Ruth asked if I have already purchased a dog carrier bag, I was confused because I already bought the crate not knowing he can sit with me, and she says he's an ESA and can be in the passenger seat with me so the crate was unnecessary.- Since my dog didn't need a crate I had to buy a dog carrier bag so he can fit under the passenger seat or my lap. I carried the dog carrier bag but he didn't use it at all, which is fine. It's good to have one for safety. My flight had one stop; so two flights he was on my lap because he didn't want to be under the passenger seat. I'm wondering if it was possible for me to have bought a seat ticket for him so it would've been an easier and more comfortable flight and I didn't mind the price. I chose United Airlines so I suggest researching their policy. What I remember being told was United Airlines doesn't allow seat purchases for pets. Unless I was told that because it's probably only allowed for ESA and I didn't bring it up in the beginning. So I wish it was brought up if it was an option when I was being given the ESA instructions. So please research United Airlines policy, maybe passenger seat and lap really are the only option.- I received a cute care package/travel kit with a lei from Akonapet and I just want to mention the red leash. The instructions was to use the leash, DON'T. My dog is 20lbs and the leash doesn't secure properly, it will keep opening. He kept getting loose easily when I was checking in at the airport so I switched to my regular retractable leash. Appreciate the leash thought though and the cute travel kit.Besides the hiccups, I really appreciate this company because I wouldn't have been able to do the difficult parts!! They provided all the required documents and I probably would've missed many if I did this on my own. They kept track of the many required deadlines and they still got them done timely. They made the arrangements with United Airlines for all my stops so my transition from check-in and airports were smooth. Flying to Hawaii a rabies titer was required. They took care of All the important things that really mattered and for those things I am grateful. Thank you Ms. Ruth for our safe travels!!!Suggestions for future customers:- It's okay to do your part on asking for statuses if you feel like you haven't heard anything in a while. Communicate effectively and respectfully, I received great help in return.- If your pet is an ESA or not, check the policy of the airline you are flying if you can buy a seat, if pet has to be under passenger seat or lap, or luggages cabin. Research if crate is the only option if pet is not ESA, or dog carrier bag can be used for both ESA and non-ESA pets. What ever your situation is, ask questions and research for y
Pet-Friendly Restaurants
Journey Cafe Big Island
75-5729 Ali‘i Dr C-106, Kailua-KonaThis place is so good! We got the Journey Salad, Mac and cheeze upgraded to Mac Attack, and garlic knots. After a day on a plane we were so hungry! Food is fresh, big portions, staff so friendly and kind. Located in the middle section of little shops and was a little tricky to find because it’s not visible from the street or back paid parking lot (at least in the dark lol). Was so good we took more to go.

Hale Ku'i Plaza, 73-4976 Kamanu St Ste 101, Kailua-KonaIt’s a cute cafe, nice girly vibe, coffee drinks are good, it’s a little expensive but not too bad, it’s a great place to hangout with friends or family. It has great WiFi but It is not ideal for working or studying/doing homework as it is noisy and outdoor seats have a lot of disturbance from the road, nice view of the ocean.
