Should be zero stars so many issues it's insane. No one at the front desk knows anything. The guy smiled/laughed and literally said "I don't know how to check you in". Had to call and talk to someone over the phone to check in, took over 30 minutes to check in. The room had Ants getting in through the bottom of the door and climbing on to the counters if we left anything out for more than 2 minutes. Had to buy ant killer to stop it for rest of trip. Pool/Jacuzzi is not maintained enough, Jacuzzi water smells terrible. They have Fines for anything and everything. Dumpster fine, patio/deck fine, Pool/Jacuzzi fine, etc. probably about 10 fines you have to sign off when checking in. Halfway through my trip, my door wouldn't lock so I had to wait for maintenance for 2 hours to come fix. Place is a dumpster fire. Save your money

Way over-priced. There is constant confusion regarding this place because it is an assembly of rooms and buildings and each group of rooms and buildings have different owners. My rooms was owned by a company in Las Vegas, NV and when I tried to call the "front desk" a person on another Hawaiian Island answered the phone. So, when I needed something, I would have to walk across the complex to the other side to try and speak with someone at the front desk and they would just tell me to call the phone number I had just called. Also, the place is understaffed and if there is a problem at night, you must try and someone may not be available to help you. I had a window room over-looking and ocean. Be careful for wanting a room overlooking the beach because the room is a few feet from the beach and can get very loud with landscaping, people shouting and yelling from beach, loud music from the beach and homeless/un-housed people screaming or playing music. The only saving grace is the cats at the hotel who are friendly.

Checked in & checked right out after seeing the room. Dirty & no one to clean it so we left. Don't bother with this place.

Noticed that their website mentioned being in close proximity to "everything Maui has to offer" despite their location in Kona on the big island. (it would be quite a swim to get to Maui). Found a good rate available and booked a studio for two nights. Received email back the next day saying my reservation was cancelled, but no explanation. Email provides a phone number to call. Called that number and got a recording saying that they no longer handle reservations for the Kona Islander. Went back to the Kona Islander website and got another phone number. That person said they don't handle reservations either and gave me a different phone number, which was another incorrect number. Finally did get connected to someone through a fourth number, who was very nice and put me on hold for a while while she looked into it, and finally returned and said that the unit I had reserved had a maintenance issue and that's why my reservation was cancelled, and there were no other units available for my desired nights.

First time in the big island, and the down side of my visit was my condominium where we stayed... not what the picture in the website is selling. First impression at front desk, very rude person, Stephanie is her name. Room smells not fresh and clean. Bathroom with a terrible urine smell that last the entire 7 days. Run out of hand soap after two days. the first night we got there we reported a light bulb out in the hallway by of our door, the only bulb out.. we were told the they'll replace it next day.. guess what, they never did it. Checking out again Stephanie.. not nice at all. Many other nice places in that area. Oh by the way parking is terrible.. Hard to find a spot to leave your car. My advice don't stay in Kona Islander Inn. So many other nice places close to the beach to stay.

The room was very good. Spacious, with bathroom, refrigerator, a small kitchen with microwave, many towels. The location of the apartment is great because it is in all the best.
There is parking if you are from the hotel and it is free

One of the worst stay in my experience. I stayed in unit 112. It was smelly and insects were crawling all of over the unit. Everything in the unit was cheap and bare bone. The bed was made up of inexpensive foam and it was uncomfortable. A kitchen sink was installed in the bathroom. Curtains had red wine stains that were never cleaned and pillows were filthy. Check in lady was also rude. Avoid this shady place and book another much better hotel with the same price.

The location is just perfect!! Go from the back door, cross the road and there the beach! Great restaurants and shopping centers at a walkable distance. The only drawback is the parking which is very very limited inside. Else you need to park on the street.

Friendly staff at the counter. I forgot her name, but she has beautiful eyes. She was very nice the whole visit. She even called us later in the day to check in to make sure everything was OK. Nice lush greenery around entire property right off the strip. Ocean view across the street from us from our balcony. Nice clean room tile floors throughout mini kitchenette, a plus. Parking gets full quickly and some nights we had to park on the street because we got in late. Prime location for condo with beach and restaurant/shop access.

We were surprised to get a view of the ocean at our second visit to this resort( first was inside pool view) The small studio is very doable for 2 people but 1 room could get crowded quickly using the pull out couch. You can walk all around Kona easily and to the viewing beach (no swimming) across the street. The bed was comfortable but the kitchen is small and sparsely furnished. No small bowls or glassware or sharp knives to cut the beautiful fruit readily available at market. A wine opener but no wine glasses- I saved a plastic cup from a restaurant! The phone number we were given for the off site management company was never answered. Our unit was close to the street which gave us a nice view but a lot of street noise. You need a car to get around this large beautiful island but this resort allows you to walk to meals and town.

This is a condo resort and the rooms that are available are only ones that owners make available. These can vary significantly. We were lucky and got a lovely place with a view of the ocean, very clean and although small, was quite usable. The resort does not choose the units for you, a management company does. I was nervous in reading the previous reviews but we had great customer service the couple of times we needed something and as said by everyone, the location can’t be beat.

It's good, it's good, it's good, it's good. The pool is nice and there are many amenities. Each room has its own owner, so I had to ask the owner for the Wi-Fi password.
