We rented from Aloha this year after always booking our cars thru Costco on our previous trips. It was important to us to try to support and on-island business and we were rewarded with a seamless, friendly and professional service. They came so promptly after we grabbed our bags and the gal at the check in was so lovely and proficient. The car was exactly what we expected, hassle free and the total bill was far less than we have paid on past trips. Return was seamless, again the employee that drove us to the airport (it's maybe 5 minutes) was so kind. We will always rent from them now, plus they have what might be the cutest office cat ever -- see you next year, Ace and the Aloha O'hana.

We had another great experience with "Aloha Rent A Car", also known as "Al West's Vans". We have rented cars twice here and both times were upgraded to larger cars. This time we rented a mid-sized vehicle, but were upgraded to an almost new, Ford Escape (only 23,709 miles on it).I had never driven this model and they were very helpful in going over the features with me.And the price was great - $218.37 for a rental from Oct 29, 2023 til Nov 6, 2023.They also provide free shuttle service to and from the Maui airport (OGG).The people we rented our condo from, recommended this agency and I'm glad they did.

this place is slow. be prepared to wait 20 minutes for the shuttle at the airport and at least an hour in line. employees are not quick and efficient at all. and then when we got the car it was very dirty. the inside was very dusty and had a bunch of finger prints on the screen and the windshield. and the outside of the car was very dinged up and scratch marks everywhere. save your time and your money and go through one of the main car rental companies.

After a decent initial experience with this rental car company on a previous trip on the Road to Hana, I decided to use them again, expecting a similarly smooth process. Unfortunately, my recent encounter has significantly altered my perception of them. One major issue was the inconsistency between their online promotions and the reality when you call in. Their website, which isn't updated regularly, advertised specific specials that were not honored/available (misleading in general) when I called, leading to a frustrating conversation about rates and policies.A specific instance that further dampened my experience involved an inquiry about their "2-hour late return window grace period" policy. I wanted to gain clarity and navigate around an additional 24-hour charge due to a slightly later return time. However, I was met with a response that was both unaccommodating and unexpectedly confrontational. I found myself being accused of trying to exploit a local business. Then, I got a disheartening lecture about the importance of supporting local businesses - a principle I agree with and one of the primary reasons I chose their service over larger, potentially cheaper platforms like the airport agencies or TURO.My intention was not to undermine their business but to seek a fair deal, especially given that their pricing is notably higher than other options. Unfortunately, the conversation took a turn for the worse, ending abruptly with the representative alleging aggressiveness on my part and hanging up on me. I advocate for the importance of local businesses and generally anticipate a higher degree of customer service and mutual respect, especially when people make intentional choices to support them. Sadly, this experience was glaringly different from that expectation. In reflection, not only has my opinion been swayed, but I feel compelled to share this experience with my extended family, who also frequents Maui and rents from Aloha Rent-A-Car. It is disheartening that this terrible interaction has not only lost them my future business but that of my family as well. Despite this incident, I remain supportive of local businesses and will seek alternative local options in the future.

I normally do not leave reviews, but I felt it was warranted to leave a review of this company. We chose them because they were a local company (small business), which we try support versus larger, nationwide chains, especially due to the recent situation in Lahaina. We did select an “economy” vehicle, however we did not expect it to be 12 years old. We rented and returned 3 vehicles within 3 days due to safety and comfort issues (first one sounded like the backend was dragging and little to no AC. Second and third one had little to no AC as well). The owner/manager was very rude upon return of the third vehicle and asked us to “take a test drive” with him to prove the AC was not working. This was our vacation, and all these trips were infringing on that time. He finally gave us a new vehicle to drive that was perfect. It should not have taken us four tries to get a vehicle that was satisfactory, especially considering there were literally 18,000 rental vehicles sitting next to the airport waiting to be shipped back to the mainland (this was told to us by a local).

Nadia was lovely & very helpful. She picked me up from the airport & provided a clean car right away. I have already rented from her twice & both times have been a delightful experience. I am very thankful to have found an alternative to the corporate rental car companies.

Non-responsive. We tried to reach them in two different ways. They don't provide enough information even in confirmation emails. Between our experience and reading recent reviews, I think we dodged a bullet. Prices looked good at first but ultimately not worth it.EDIT: you can see from their response that there are integrity and accountability issues as well. Definitely suggest you heed this review and others if you want a good rental car experience.

Great bang for your buck! They have a range of options to fit your budget. If you do choose an older, cheaper option, just don't expect a pearl, you get what you pay for folks, be realistic. They do also have newer models that are a fantastic price for the quality. We chose a +/-2015 model initially to save some money, but we learned that it had a mechanical issue. We brought it to their attention and they gladly swapped it out for another car. And they didn't have another option in our category so they upgraded us to a newer model without any extra charge. If you want a corporate experience, then just stick with the big named companies and you know what to expect, and expect to pay more.If you treat people with aloha then they will treat you with aloha. Be kind and have patience.

Terrible experience. First car they gave had such extreme axel and suspension issues we were terrified to drive it. Brought it back and they gave us an older car that was also in bad shape. It knocked every time it went around a corner and smelled like cigarettes. After getting home I noticed on credit card statement that they had charged me $300 three separate times. When I called to ask they said the charge 3 times was a mistake but that they charged us a one time cleaning fee of $300 because there was sand in the car. I mean seriously?! You’re better off to go with a standard car company at the airport

Don't rent from here! I went online to reserve a car but never received an email confirmation. So I called the office to see if they could find my reservation and they confirmed they DID NOT have it. They suggested I go online and try again or they could book it for me on the phone. Instead I went with another company after reading the terrible reviews.Turns out they did have my reservation and I'm being charged a $30 cancellation fee for a car rental they said they never had. And instead of being helpful, the assistant manager was just completely RUDE. I've never experienced so much hostility from a mistake someone else made! She could've just acknowledged they made a mistake and waived the fee instead she doubled down and was RUDE just for $30?? No way $30 is more important than their reputation. Terrible customer service and I didn't even rent a car from them.Heed the bad reviews and rent from somewhere else.

I am traveling from Colorado USA to Maui Hawaii and when I got there, I needed a car and this car rental place was the closest for my family and when we got there, we got a red 2015 Dodge caravan license plate ssd-642 van that was dirty and full of scratches. Only a quarter of the gas was there, even though they said half was full. we had to go back in because they were going to charge us was half a tank even though it was only a quarter. The fob on the car was also broken and had to deal with it because no one was answering the phones or returning our calls. When we had some other concerns and had some questions so we called them but there was no response so we kept calling them and after a few calls are number got blocked. we had to use a different phone to contact them and they said they were handling the situation and was going to contact us back. Seven days later still no response. I would not recommend them to any families who are here in Maui to have a fun experience. Also, the manager there is very unorganized and hard to talk with.

Friendly staff. The car's a wreck but comfortable. They picked us up at the airport and took us to the lot. Check out was quick and efficient. Complimentary mini coolers and beach chairs.

The absolute worst place you can rent . Have used before but the new ownership is terrible. First car they rolled out for us was wrecked , had bald tires . Second car was front end was completely worn out and unsafe . Manager was rudest unprofessional acting j*** ever . Finally got a decent car on third attempt after being treated very rudely for just wanting a safe car . Would have gone elsewhere but it was late in the day but I strongly suggest you don’t go there at all . They could care less if you get stranded or even worse . I’ll pay double to never use this place again . Buyer beware ! These cars are unsafe .

AC was not working, tires kept deflecting, no windshield washing product... Overall the car was in really bad condition. And they charged us $300 extra for having some "sand in the car" when we returned it ( without our consent!"). Shuttle pick up at airport was also a mess, we waited for almost 30 min, and when the shuttle showed up, it had 8 seats for over 20 people. Never again.
