This is the Gem of Waikiki. Nevermind the big corporate places with the sterile atmosphere and clearly cookie cut out staff. Equus had a friendly, helpful kind staff. From Lincoln at the front Desk, to Ben in the cafe in the mornings and Matt or Suzie at night, everyone was so Aloha. Nice to just chill and hang out in the cafe and meet locals after work heading in to grab a beer before they go home. Good times talk story with everyone. It was truly the best experience I have had staying in Waikiki and I generally don't care much for Waikiki. I'm already looking forward to staying here again.
Walkability: Close to everything. Walking distance to Ala Moana and to restaurants or late night bars. Very few of those in Waikiki weirdly. Also, jogging down Ala Wai is a treat.

I see some of these reviews are not fair. I checked out today and stayed 10 days.
1. The staff is outstanding, very helpful, friendly and always available for their guess. Auntie Rena was so helpful being my first time in Hawaii.
2. The rooms very clean, and great rooms at this price point.
3. Location: easy walk anywhere in Waikiki, the beach, restaurants, the mall, Walmart. Just a perfect location for us.
4. Plenty of parking at 29.00 per 24 hours. That’s a good deal in this area. ABC store and McDonalds is a 2 minute walk. Nice small lounge with great bartenders.
In conclusion if you looking for a boutique hotel, that’s quite in a perfect location this is your place.
Rooms: Clean plenty of space great bathroom
Nearby activities: Very close walking distance
Safety: Very safe
Walkability: Walk to anyplace
Food & drinks: Close to everything

Overall staff, value and small business appeal are what sets this property apart. I've stayed here a couple of times while waiting to fly out of HNL and it's been a pleasure every time. Rooms are comfortable with mini fridge, coffee maker and decent size. They have a welcome drink for when you arrive and proximity to sites is great. Parking is a little tight, as is most in Waikiki. I've just decided to ride-share to the property and good to go. I don't know if it's the owners but Keo and Rene were very welcoming and showed lots of Aloha! I've stayed at much more expensive properties on Oahu and been severely disappointed. This place is comfortable and welcoming which I appreciate. Not so hidden gem that I hope stays doing its own thing.

The only locally owned hotel in Waikiki. Friendly attentive staff. Kama 'aina rates available. The road noise is appreciable but the only place you can avoid that is on the ocean side of beach front hotels.
Rooms: Great king bed, a comforter for that cold winter or spring night. Nice photos on the wall. Clean, tidy, attractive.
Walkability: This part of Honolulu is easy walk to many places. A mile from Whole Foods and Down To Earth
Food & drinks: A sweet little bar, coffee drinks, breakfast and sandwich options

Staff is absolutely wonderful! Location is actually pretty good with the exception of being on a busy street, but you are a short walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants!

I didn’t stay at this hotel, but I experienced terrible service while retrieving a bag that their customer took out of my vehicle. Renee is a rude wise condescending seems unhappy witch! She hung up on me because I asked her how am I going to have a claim ticket for the bag if I didn’t check it and their customer took it? I called back and told her that maybe you don’t understand that I would explain to her what happened and she was mouthy responding that there is no misunderstanding.

We chose this hotel for one reason; it is very close to the Ala Moana Centre - a 10 minute walk away - and was very competitively priced. We booked for 2 nights and found the hotel comfortable and clean. On arrival we were offered a complimentary cocktail while we waited for our room to be available. Our room was on Level 8 and on the Saturday night (our first night) there was significant noise from the street, and until 9:30PM from music in the hotel bar. If you are light sleeper, we’d recommend good quality ear plugs. However, Sunday night was very quiet with no disturbances at all. The staff were very pleasant, welcoming and efficient. On Sunday morning, we requested Reception to organise a taxi pickup for 8:30AM on the Monday morning for the airport and the driver was waiting for us in the lobby when we arrived to check out at 8:20AM. As previously mentioned the hotel is located in very close proximity to the Ala Moana Centre, as well as a number of casual dining restaurants, take outs, an ABC convenience store and a pharmacy. We’d researched the area carefully and considered The Equus to be ideal for our requirements. We were not disappointed.

Hidden gem of Waikiki. I have stayed at Waikiki's fanciest and trendiest hotels but I had the MOST fun here. I can't wait to come back! I recommend staying here and buying a resort pass to a nicer pool if that's the experience you are after. There is so much to do on Oahu - get outside! At this hotel, you can't beat the affordability and location. Its so important to also support locally owned businesses. Especially ones as special and charming as this!

If you're looking for a 5* hotel with all the bells & whistles, this hotel is not for you!
But if you're looking for a family run small boutique basic hotel, that offers genuine great service to its guests, great location (short walking distance to Hawaii's largest shopping complex, beaches and other attractions but being a main road was a little noisy at times), late check out, complimentary drinks on arrival, comfy beds, eco-friendly environment, then this hotel is for you.
This hotel, met all our needs. Ultimately we had obligations (not holiday related) in Hawaii and stayed very little during the day in the actual hotel but when we were there, it was on point for us.
Thank you to the wonderful staff :)

We had a great stay here. It was super convenient for walking to local beaches and restaurants. Ala Moana Blvd is a very busy street so sometimes it was really noisy, but overall, we were very happy with our stay here!

I'm a horse person, so this place really appealed to me. Loved the old photos in the hallways and the decor. The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. The location was excellent and very walkable to many activities. The prices at the Paniolo Bar are very reasonable, and we had great coffee there each morning. Plus a free welcome cocktail! They let us check in crazy early, which was very much appreciated. Loved our stay, and we highly recommend the Equus! ?
