A woman in her 50s passed away over a year ago. Since her husband is in a foster home for dementia, her family in Japan payed for cremation and set of death certificates to be mailed to Japan. They cremated her and mailed ash but not death certificates. Husband's state-appointed case manager took all certificates so that they can make themselves as degingnaged payee for husband's fee. Her family was upset but paid again for additional certificates, which were never mailed.Father in Japan was waiting and waiting so that his daughter can have a proper burial. With the stress, his health went nose dive and after a year of waiting, he passed away. Till this day, the woman's ashes are at her sister's home, forever reminding father's pain. They have provided credit card numbers, security codes, name and address of sister multiple times. Now they say the family in Japan can order them at Dept. of Health. Such a lack of accountability and crude way to treat family of diseased. Loved one's death is hard enough, especially children's death. Imagining heartache of her father brings tears to my eyes. I am a long time hospice nurse. I have seen many, many death. And I hope this would not happen to anyone's family. My prayers for the father, daughter, and all other families who are grieving.

I selected Oahu Mortuary, because of Yelp reviews. I have spent the day trying to confirm that the body of my sister has reached them two days after her death. Each time they have said someone will call me back. Silence from their end. At the very least their company communications are bad. I cannot rule out that something untoward has happened to my sister's body.

My young nephew passed away recently. The stress level and grief are just unbelievable right now. Throughout the whole planning, Oahu Mortuary worked alongside everyone involved. They were even working with my family off island. In the end, we were able to have a beautiful service for my nephew and fly his urn back to Guam, where he will be with his mother and the rest of the family. This cemetery was very peaceful. When we came in the morning, people were walking their pets and exercising. We saw the royal mosoleum as we waited. Coming back for the service, everything was set up for us. We had tables for the food. We had a beautiful setup in the chapel. It was really a small but intimate celebration of life. Overall, the staff were so helpful and understanding. The crematory service, the office staff, and the chapel staff were professional and truly respectful. Thank you so much for making this sad moment bearable and happen without extra stress.

Oahu Mortuary is our family mortuary. Oahu Mortuary have cremated multiple family members over the years. All mortuaries throughout the islands are pretty slammed, but Oahu Mortuary was able to pick up my loved one and cremate them within a reasonable time frame. I called a few other mortuaries, and they didn't pick up, or the call went to some random sales number for an unrelated item (super weird and not sure if the line was re-rerouted or hacked).Raymon Takiue and his staff have been nice, and prompt in following up with me, even when I am several hours ahead in the mainland. They answered my questions, scanned in important documents I needed, allowed me to have a special cremation urn from overseas sent directly to the mortuary, and made sure that I'll have the proper paperwork I need to fly overseas with my loved one's remains. The mortuary itself is older, but they do have EDRS access so the information of your loved one's death is sent directly and electronically to the state so they can issue the death certificate (if it isn't a medical examiner case). The cemetery grounds are beautiful, and the offices are quiet, and you wait outside if you need to pick up any documents. There's always parking, and it's a quick drive from town. Mahalo to Raymond and Anela for their help through this difficult time, and with dealing with my calls from the mainland!

Every summer the Oahu Cemetery, in collaboration with Mission Houses will host a cemetery theater which is a unique experience for many locals and visitors. They will feature significant historical figures in Hawaii, many buried at the Oahu Cemetery itself. At the end of the day they will have a Q&A with the organizers and cast to reflect on the performance.

I was lost as what to do for my brother in law who passed young and suddenly. Anella answered my 1,000 questions. She's a gem. Her and Lea are angels on earth. We have peaceful closure thanks to Lea. Everyone is so patient and kind. Every person we encountered was special. What a beautiful place to call your final home.

This review is for Daniel Kapahu who is one of the Funeral Directors at Oahu Mortuary. He was very kind, professional, and helpful throughout this entire process. For those of you who have never had a loved one pass away and are in charge of funeral plans, you are not alone. Daniel has helped me with every step and has made the planning very smooth for me. He gave me his personal number which I have contacted him several times whether it was early morning or late evening when I had questions. Let me just add - funeral directors work around the clock and there are always operators 24/7...they don't get enough praise for the work they do. Mahalo Daniel and the staff at Oahu Mortuary!

Excellent customer service! We all come to mortuaries for pretty much one reason and I have to say, going through these hard times, O’ahu really took care of us in our time of need. We had Sam as our coordinator and she was excellent in the way she handled everything for my dad. She was very upfront about the whole process and explained everything very clearly. She went above and beyond with helping us who are from out of town and was very quick to respond and very accommodating.I loved my dad and if he were alive, he would hope our experience through this was as least traumatic as possible. That is why I want to mention the main factors that influenced our decision to go with O’ahu. When you are vacationing and expected to return home but a death occurs and your stuck on the island and not sure when you will get home, O’ahu was able to get everything done for us within a week. We could have just been lucky with timing but it seems like they are not one to try to delay things. It also feels bad for me to say but regarding price, they were very affordable and didn’t have weird hidden fees. We did a cremation which after calling around to other places was the most affordable place and the quickest. We did a viewing prior to cremation and they did a great job with preparing my dad.Death is a tragedy and can be very tough to deal with but O’ahu should definitely be the place that you call for these types of needs. I hope I don’t have another incident like this the next time I’m in Hawaii but I can tell you that if you’re looking for somewhere to take care of your loved one, they did a great job.I will miss my dad forever and can sleep better at night knowing we had a great experience.

Staff member Mary V. assured me that I'd receive thumbprint. I wanted to pay for it, she said don't worry. I still haven't received it.

If anyone who values history will know this place is worth visiting. THIS IS THE FIRST CEMETERY MADE IN HAWAII LET ALONE THE FIRST CREMATORY IN WEST. This place dates back to the 1800's. They have iconic names buried here. Family ties & much more. So, when you come here, it's like you feel a piece of Hawaii's history. Knowing they still upkeep all of their graves, makes it easier to want to hold a service here. Why?! Because you know they VALUE history, they appreciate life & cherish memories. I found that their Price for services is reasonable. Also, part of the cost goes to sustaining the grounds itself. Preserving history & the memories of those who are laid to rest here. What I love best about this place is... Mauna'ala is right above. Oh! Mauna'ala is also known as THE ROYAL MAUSOLEUM. That is where our kings & queens of Hawaii are buried. So, I found it perfect to hold my moms funeral services here. Not just because she was Kanaka... but because she was born when Hawaii was just a territory. Which I find befitting since this place was built before Hawaii forcibly becoming a territory OR state. So YEAH! I think many would enjoy it here. Even if it's just for a visit! There's a lot of MANA HERE. And PEACE! Very peaceful with the air, the trees & the birds. Nature itself takes over. ITS AMAZING! Thank you Oahu Morturary & Crematory for your services and for keeping our history alive.

As a military veteran of 20 years, I felt disrespected. Although they try to make up for it at the funeral, i am still very disappointed. Almost disgusted. They acted nice at the funeral. I guess that's the least we can ask.

All religions and ethnicities coexist here - together in peace...Oahu Cemetery started with 4.5 acres of land (now, it's about 13 acres) in 1844. It was the Whaling Era and foreigners needed a final resting place. This site in Nu'uanu was chosen because it was a relatively short carriage ride from the harbor...I never really had a reason to visit this historic place until my friend's mom passed away last year. I wasn't able to attend the service because of the COVID-19 restrictions. This year (2021), we celebrate the first anniversary of my friend's mom's passing. It's a rather sad way to bring the family together. However, we can look at it as a celebration of a life lived well... A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend... Rest in Peace, Catherine...Oahu Cemetery has several entrances and exits. The property is gigantic! On the far end, there's a building with niches. Pass the mausoleum, go to the end of the lot, cross Nu'uanu Avenue, and find an extension of the cemetery! Look for the pond and waterfall near the chapel! The grave art is beautiful! From angels and lambs... to crosses and The Star of David... Everyone rests in harmony here - in this lush Hawaiian paradise!
