Our "Common Ground(s)," I believe, are discernable. Yes. Here in Hawaii, we represent very different religious beliefs. This is a very clear, undeniable fact. However, inspite of these undisputed issues, personally, I submit, that we share some spiritual matters, across our faiths, in common as well as many key humanitarian viewpoints. Dad and Mom recognized them and fully embraced this rich diversity. I will carefully endeavor to illustrate and highlight our many common perspectives, not dwell on our differences. And, you may ask, "What is an unmistakable Japanese castle doing standing in the middle of the Makiki community in Honolulu, Hawaii?" You will be amazed to discover, that the answer is very simple. The church founders, who came from Kochi, Japan, built the church structure and sanctuary, based upon popular church hymns like "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God." And, this church design is an exact, although somewhat smaller, replica of the Kochi castle, in Kochi City, on the island of Shikoku, one of the four prominent islands, which make up Japan.Allow me then, to tackle these rich, amazing local historical and cultural realities as well as fascinating diversity.

As a guest attendee at a local member’s memorial service, the church’s Pastor Wayne and his crew were excellent. Church members were also warm and inviting. The ornate Japanese castle based building design was a thrill to tour. Definitely worth doing when you catch the regular Sunday service.

Have attended for 22 years. Japanese/English Congregation. Solid Christian teaching. Old school worship. 100 plus historical building. Needs more families and more young adults to turn the tide of the church.

Exemplary education and caring Aloha live here! Their ability to teach while also having the students learning great character is truly a miracle at this beautiful school. The teachers have the patience of Job. They keep the parents well-informed and have a very high-tech way of showing images and experiences on a daily basis to keep an eye on our beautiful daughter. We feel completely included in her process and love the journey that she's on here at the Makiki Christian Church Preschool.

easygoing friendly people who have a common beliefs in the bible. they are very transparent and upfront about everything we would recommend coming back here to visit. we appreciate it very much!We attended another church called the honolulu church of christ on keeaumoku street that ended up abusing our trust by behaving in a dishonest manner with our money.

The beautiful decoration of the building has been damaged due to rain leaks. It's a waste. However, as someone who is addicted to Japanese vulgar culture, when I first saw this majestic building, I had a huge misunderstanding, thinking, "What a disgusting love hotel!" Ta. I still regret it.
