I've been going to Kalihi Pet Clinic for about 8 years now and all staff members does an excellent job. Dr. ALAN.OBARA, D. V. M. is a really good doctor. He always shows care and compassion for our pets.

I've seriously had it with this clinic and should have made this review a long time ago. So it starts with my puppy needed a scheduled vaccine shot at 10 weeks of age and I asked them to schedule an appointment for me to meet this requirement. The vets only availability is limited to Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. I make my appointment for Wednesday. Note this where the breeder had taken my puppy previously and they have all my pups records.
I then take time out of my work day and show up only to be told that they made a mistake and the appointment they made was too soon and I had to reschedule.
I let it go and called them later to get my pups records and it took 45 min in queue for me to request it. They said they would email it, still haven't received it.
Lastly, it's less than 24 hours before my rescheduled appointment and I get a text I need to reschedule again because the vet is not available. This vet clinic does not value your time or your pets needs.

My cat has very bad reactions to the vaccine taken at a different clinic. He vomit multiple times and looks very uncomfortable. But that clinic can only take him in as an emergency visit, which cost $100 for only visit fee. Fortunately, I made a same-day appointment in Kalihi pet clinic and now my cat is back to normal. Dr.Obara was very nice and patient. He explained everything to me and send me an email listing all we discussed afterwards. The price is also very fair here. Highly recommended.

New to the island and of course my fur babies had to have a few struggles with the move. Kalihi Pet Clinic has so far done a fantastic job helping my Golden with arthritis and My GSD with an ear infection from swimming! Prices are super fair and they try to prioritize tests to get you the best result without breaking the bank! I would say prices are near comparable to my prior vet in MN, with the exception of sending labs out, costing a little more than I am use to; but to be expected.
I appreciate the service, kindness from all the staff, even my picky GSD loved everyone there!! Super glad I found Dr. Obara!!

EDIT: when we asked this clinic for medication to help our babies, they told us that it was not an “every day med” and was unsafe for long term use. Our new vet refuted this and said it is one of the safest meds for cats and that it is used long term all the time. They also agreed our male should be on it not only for anxiety but pain as he is old. Idk why this clinic was trying so hard to avoid helping my boy but there you go.
We went about two weeks ago to have our two cats assessed for inter-household aggression. We recently moved here for school and our two cats were struggling with the new environment and we felt they needed extra care after some fights started happening. The first appointment was great, the techs were kind, the vet listened to our concerns and suggested a course of action for our female cat who has long suffered from anxiety. We got her on a temporary medication and it was helping, but we wanted our second cat assessed as well since environment adaption, regular exercise, diffusers, and other plans we adopted were not helping.
Our second visit: the room was a bit dirty and had a smell but we hoped it was because it was the end of the day. The second doctor we saw was kind, but it didn’t feel like he was listening to us, he treated my male cat because the two had gotten into a fight. My concern was that the fighting had escalated to an injury that could lead to more. The doctor did not seem to take these concerns to heart. He offered to look into medicating our male cat but wanted documentation from a previous vet to find out his previous dosage.
This did not make sense to me or my husband since it was over a year ago and he had no issues on it previously, but because the doctor should also be able to decide a dose independently. It felt like stalling, but no actual reasons were given.
Our male had seen at least 5 different vets in the past year because we had moved several times. That being said, I could not remember which vet had prescribed the medication so I told them the name of the office based on my best guess.
They called my husband later that week asking for the name of the office I guessed on and he gave it to them. A few days passed and we called about an update for meds and they told us that there were no notes about them receiving the name of the office to call, but that they’d call us back by the end of the day. They never did. They did however call the day after that, the woman sighed at my husband and told him to “write it down next time” when he told her what had happened the previous day, but that he couldn’t remember the woman’s name. We felt this was really unprofessional, but played it off as it maybe being a hard day.
Yesterday we got in contact with them again. My husband received a call and a voicemail saying they had contacted the previous vet, but it wasn’t the right one so they needed us to try to track down which one it was and to call back. My husband only saw a message from the vet and immediately called back without looking at the voicemail. Someone picked up and told him they hadn’t called and he needed to wait for them to call him. He apologized and went back to check what he has missed. Sure enough the message was from their office.
This is when we made the decision to move on. The lack of note taking on their end and passive aggressive phone tag that happened really made this office feel disorganized. It is not our job to take notes for you, or to book keep for you. I have a fur baby that is one year out from fip treatment and if there had been any disorganization, two week long phone tag, etc at our last office, our baby would have died.
Organization, communication, and empathy is key in this field and unfortunately it feels like this office is struggling to maintain all three of those across the entire team. We hope it gets figured out soon though because the good experiences we had were very memorable and valuabl

We were pleased with the care and service Dr. Obara and his staff provided to our three wonderful Tibetan Spaniels. They always responded promptly to our calls and answered our questions, and Dr. Obara was always professional, compassionate and understanding throughout our dogs lives, and after. We would recommend Kalihi Pet Clinic to anyone who loves their pet(s) and is looking for a reasonably priced vet.

We started using Kalihi Pet Clinic back in Kaliha by the bowling alley when Dr Lau owned the business. We really liked him and he was old school which was good for us.
When he retired, I was not too keen at first with all the changes and updates from the new people, BUT I HAVE COME TO APPRECIATE THE NEW REGIME, VERY MUCH!!!
I still think they need to hire a dedicated person to ONLY ANSWER THE TELEPHONE, But......The care they give our pet/child is above and beyond. They have gone out of their way to do everything they can, even when short staffed, to help us and our 16 year old Shitzu, Gizmo!
These people care and have carried on the tradition of care originally expressed by Dr Lau. Nobody is perfect, but these people are doing a great job.
Everyone will complain when something is wrong, but I want to say "Thank You"!!!

Our go to vet - Dr. O and Dr. Bu are both good, compassionate, empathetic. One of the nurses though could use some improvement...

I made an intake appointment to get an estimate on spaying my cat. She is in perfect health and all they did was take her weight. They charged me $78 for a 5 minute exam. Then gave me an estimate of $575 to get her fixed. Not an affordable place to go.

I called to look into spaying my puppy at this vet. There are so many great reviews online, but I didnʻt see any about this topic specifically. The receptionist told me about the general surgical procedures and gave the cost for an initial exam and bloodwork, but she had been ordered to not even give out a range of what the cost for spaying the animal could be (I didnʻt even insist on an actual quote). I felt uncomfortable making an initial appointment that would cost $275 including bloodwork before even understanding what the cost of her procedure might be here. It felt like writing a blank check. Other offices were able to at least give a cost range, given her age, the assumption that sheʻs healthy, and the type of dog she was. I did say I understood it would not be an actual quote. I appreciate the information I was given, but without some kind of idea of cost, it makes me unlikely to take my puppy in for this initial visit. Feeling sad, because the reviews here look fairly good otherwise.

Did not have a good experience. We had our litter puppies get their dew claws removed and tails docked. In less than 24hr 2 stitches on the tails had opened and we went back to be re stitched and as soon as we left 2 more had opened. The stitches were loose on every puppy. We had to go to a different vet for them to be redone and no issues since.
